Many of us love our macros (myself included). We've come up with many fun things to do with them. Some were great, some were bad. I suggest we share both the good and bad macros with those who would love to learn them!
I'll start with an example of each.
Good macro:
To quickly change your dance step until you get the one you want, instead of typing "/e dance" over and over, use this macro:
/macro Dance "e dance"
Hit it until you get what you want, or just keep hitting it in time with the music to create a random dance.
Bad macro:
/macro KS "B $target is a kill stealer!"
First of all, this puts the message on the broadcast channel, which nobody wants to hear. Second, I saw someone tonight target a police drone with this macro and let loose!
OK, there's my two. What have you got? Huh? Huh?

Well, I don't use macros, but I do use binds. Doc Justice has Recall Friend and when you teleport a whole team, it gets kind of boring to hear the same old thing over and over again. So I made several binds for my tp power...
/bind p "team Hold on to your mask, $target! You're about to be ported!$$powexec_name Recall Friend"
/bind o "team Heads up, $target! Incoming teleportation!$$powexec_name Recall Friend"
bind i "team $target, you are about to be ported! Keep your arms and legs inside the car at all times!$$powexec_name Recall Friend"

I got one macros and I don't know how to make more. Mine is for Build Up and it says 'The Power!' Kind of lame yes but its my macro none the less. I want to know how to make the macros that says different baddies or team mates names. Those are interesting.
Warning, my stories and blog is not meant for those who are easily offended. If you are one of them, then avoid the link, you wussies.

Insert "$target" into your text where you want the bad guy's name to appear. It will automatically substitute the name of your target, whether it be friend, foe or NPC - Even the police drone!
You can also insert "$level" to insert your own level, which is usually only used for greetings and LFT's.
The manual has a list of others, but $target is the only one I'm aware of that will insert information about someone else. The others in the manual insert information about yourself.
Example: /macro Catch "powexec_name Snowball$$Local Hey, $target! Catch!"
This gives a heads up to whomever is about to recieve your snowball.
If you have no target, it will say, "Hey, $target! Catch!" on the local channel and the power will not activate.

So I have a Q on this then.
I have binds down pretty darned good. I only have one problem. Use my defender as an example. When I try to make a bind that allows me to execute a powers while saying something, I am not able to get the power to execute to go through. Say I wanted to use the power Heal Other and say Stay alive $target. If you can tell me how it would work I'd be real happy.

I have the same problem. The one hero I tried to do this with keeps yelling power_exec and the like. It is kinda embarasing when I hit it on accident.

I am by no means an expert here, but I think Lord X already answered your question:
| QUOTE | | Example: /macro Catch \"powexec_name Snowball$$Local Hey, $target! Catch!\" |
This should create a button in your tool bar. Take your normal power button out of the tool bar and replace it with this. I believe the new button will execute the power AND say your witty phrase. Can you confirm this Lord X?

I have a question for you all, Can you make a macro or bind for Super Jump so that one button turns on SJ and makes you constantly jump, so that all I have to do is hit forward and steer?
I just get tired of constantly holding down the spacebar while I'm crossing a zone.

So I thought I would bump this thread since it is a good learning device for macros and binds (thanks for starting it Lord X). I didn't have any, but since have made quite a few.
For when Thermablaze does Inferno:
/macro Boom "powexec_name Inferno$$Local This is my... BOOOOOOMSTICK!"
Lady Lupine:
/bind p "local Don't be afraid $target, I won't bite... okay, I'm lying... I will."
Lil' Sweetness:
/bind p "local What's the matter, $target? Are you afraid of a little girl?"
/bind o "local You're a bad man $target, and I'm gonna tell!"
And thanks to Malicious for putting the bind for your afk message while you are typing (from a seperate thread):
Lady Lupine:
/bind enter "afk Be thankful that I'm not gnawing your arm off... $$startchat"
Lil' Sweetness:
/bind enter "afk Can I help that I'm so darned cute? $$startchat"

Yes, that's exactly what it will do.
There are a few mistakes that keep macros from working:
Make sure the commands are separated by \"$$\"
Put the entire string of commands in one pair of quotes.
Don't forget to name your macro.
Don't forget to specify a channel before your text.\"
Every one of my characters has an AFK macro, but the message varies from character to character.

You need to for a bind or macro, or the first word will be interpreted as a command.
If you type /macro Arg "b AAAaaarrrgh!!!" your macro will say "AAaaarrrgh!!!" on the broadcast channel. If you type /macro Arg "AAAaaarrrgh!!!" then you will get an error message saying, "Unknown command AAAaaarrrgh!!!" every time you use the macro.

Going back to one of mine for the example:
/bind p "local Don't be afraid $target, I won't bite... okay, I'm lying... I will."
The "p" is the key that I hit to make my character say the bind, and the "local" is the channel it will say it on. If you wanted to say it in team chat, you would just replace "local" with "team", and so on.
Edited due to reading deficiency: After re-reading your question, I am not sure. Maybe yes, maybe no. Try it and get back to us... lol

Tried tinkering with this myself, but couldn't get it to work. Your idea might though. The command is "reply". Lemme know how it goes.
FYI: if you screw it up (like I did), you can reset it in your options menu.

Every hero should have a $target macro, for this reason: It lets you tell teammates what you're targeted on. This can help coordinate attacks by focusing on a single threat, and it can alert teammates to Bosses or Voids/Quantums.
Everyone also might as well have a macro or bind for "Gratz." In that case, you might as well spell the whole word, or use a cheer of your own (plus Em Clap).
My healers with buffing auras all have "Gather" macros, announcing "RA up" on both local and team channels, plus the Over Here emote.
My most unique macro belongs to Captain Cola: "powexec_name Gale$$Em Burp" -- which executes the Burp animation & sound FX during Gale (but not all the time, oddly). He doesn't yet have a bind for "Excuse me."

After you name your macro and set it up, is there a way to set it up in a bind instead of in your power tray?

ok i figured it out, i had the wrong command. Nakoma the command is /autoreply
so the two binds i use go like this:
/bind enter "afk message$$startchat"
/bind backspace "afk message$$autoreply"
EDIT i did screw it up the first few times, thx for the info i went to options to reset it.

To take the questioning one step further, can I bind a macro?
For Example:
/macro teleport "powexec_name Recall Friend$$team Attention $Target, please keep you hands and feet inside the portal for the entire ride!"
then:
/bind p "powexec_name teleport"
Would this teleport the teammate and say the line in the team chat?
Can I use the macro name in the bind to just press "p" and have it perform the macro?
any help would be great.

Or you could just do /bind P "powexec_name Recall Friend$$team Attention $Target, please keep you hands and feet inside the portal for the entire ride!"
That way you don't need a macro and you get the same results.

Use the command "powexec_slot " or "powexec_altslot " in your bind instead of by name.
