I recieved a +1 anarchic shortsward of deception as a quest reward which I was estatic about since I am chaotic neutral and though it to be the perfect weapon to use on the Cult of the Six quests. But every cutist i have used it on I get a damage indicator like such...
26 - immune
My understanding was that a chaotic weapon works against lawfully aligned mobs. Is this correct or am I not understanding aligned weapons?

Your understanding it perfectly, and they work just fine. However if your getting an "immune" it means that the monster your hitting is not lawfull. I know that Trolls and Ogres are chaotic - and anarchic will have no effect on them. You'd need an axiomatic weapon to deal the extra damage. The only problem with the alignment weapons is, if what your attacking is not of the opposite alignment as your weapon - it has no effect beyond that of a normal magic weapon, usually +1, with no added effect.
I beleive the alignment weapons break down like so:
Anarchic: 2D6 extra damage to Lawfull creatures. True neutral and Chaotic creatures are immune. Must be true neutral or chaotic to weild.
Axiomatic: 2D6 extra damage to Chaotic creatures. True neutral and Lawfull creatures are immune. Must be true neutral or lawfull to weild.
Holy: 2D6 extra damage to Evil creatures. True neutral and Good creatures are immune. Must be neutral or good to weild.
Unholy: 2D6 extra damage to Good creatures. True neutral and Evil creatures are immune. Must be neutral or evil to weild.
Pure Good: 1D6 extra damage to ALL non good creatures - neutral included. Only Good creatures are immune. Must be Good to weild (DC20 to bypass).
Pure Law: 1D6 extra damage to all non-Lawfull creatures - true neutral included. Only Lawfull creatures are immune. Must be Lawfull to weild (DC20 to bypass).
Pure Chaos: 1D6 extra damage to all non-Chaotic creatures - true neutral included. Only Chaotic creatures are immune. Must be Chaotic to weild (DC20 to bypass).
For now, Holy and Pure Good work the best as "all-around" alignment efects, since they effect the most things. Pure Good is actually the best, since most monsters in the game are either neutral ( vermin, oozes & animals ) - or evil, and it effects anything that's not Good.
If your looking for specific weapons that are good to use - the Xoriat Forged Blade is simply amazing to use against Lawfull monsters like Kobolds and Hobgoblins. It's a +1 Flaming Anarchic sword - so you get three sets of damage stats per-hit. There is also a new sword at the end of Threnal South I'm dying to try called Retribution or something like that... It's a +1 ( I think, may be +2 ) Holy, Pure Good, Pure Law longsword. For now, it's as close to a Holy Avenger as is in the game and you can be sure you'll get getting at least two - maybe four - sets of damage stats per hit. it's the ultimate Paladin sword. :)
I hope this helps a bit. You just need some trial and error to figure out what alignment weapons work best on what monsters. :) I always carry an elemental weapon just in case.

1st off Welcome to the site, Fisk!
And I think EnPsyane covered your question pretty good. Well at least better than I could have.

Thank you EnPsyane,
That was very helpful. However, when I look up Cult of the Six mobs on this site, they are pretty much exclusivly Lawful/Evil which would mean that they are not immune.
I did test my sword on some Kobolds to see if it was a bug with the sword or my character and it worked as it should. So it seems that ether this site is incorrect in labling Cot6 as Lawful or there is a bug with them in the game.
Any insite on this?
Thanks again!

The data on this site about the alignments for monsters comes from the manual. There is no place where it is listed on the official site, and honestly in game the only way to determine the alignment is to take aligned weapons and see what kind of effect they have.

I beleive the cultists are chaotic-evil, as is the case with most of the Sorrowdusk imhabitants. Except Weights... which are lawfull evil - so your anarchic weapon will rip them up quite well. Off the top of my head:
Lawfull Evil: Kobolds, Hobgolins, Weights
Chaotic Evil: Giants, Ogres, Trolls, Elementals, most of the humanoid encounters ( human smugglers - etc )
Neutral: all vermin, other humanoid encounters, most undead like skelletons and zombies.
Good: Only humanoids in the Purge the Heritics quest in House P - wich is the only quest in the game I won't play ( I hate the idea of it - and I think you're supposed to ).
I know this post has some gaping holes - and some things I'm probably wrong about. I can't recall the alignment of Mephits and the like... and I'm not sure about the Elementals. I'm sure some of the mobs are Neutral Evil - I just forget which ones right now. :) But then I've also been sick all day and am not thinking clearly.

One of the more difficult bosses comes in Vault of Night 3. After you battle hoardes of Drow, scorpions and Beholders, after you defeat three champions, you face the Marut. He is a lawful good construct and he is a beast. If you want to play tag with him, best do it from a distance with magic missles. If you want to close with him, have a mace of smiting handy... Anarchic weapons work on him also.
Best of luck!
