Using the gameamp.com chat channel

It was noted today that there are many of us on the gameamp.com chat channel, but very few of us actually use it. There can be several reasons for this:

1) You don't like us

2) You don't use any user-made chat channels. If this is the case, why join them if you don't use them?

3) You don't have your chat windows set up to see the GA chatter. If this is so, and you don't know how to set it up, here's the skinny on setting chat windows:

- click on the tab you want the dialogue to be shown in (usually Global or Chat)

- when the tab is highlighted green, go to Tab menu on top of chat box, and select 'Edit Tab'

- The edit screen shows two boxes, the right has every possible form of dialog, each a different color, including any chat channels you have joined. The left box contains all the forms of dialog you can see in whatever tab you selected. Just pick what you want to move from the right to the left, and select 'Add' to move it to the other side. Then hit 'ok' and voile! Now you can see the wonderful conversations we Ampers have.

Now, if you would like to have a premade handle that precedes your text, like many of us have (Ex: mine is White Hot Flash [Unspoken Threat, 25 MM}, so we know what toon you are playing without having to type it all the time, here's how you do it:

pick a key to bind the command to and type this:

/bind k beginchat /send gameamp.com [$name, $level]

EDIT: I came across some other commands to add server and AT in the bind, without having to type them manually.

for AT use : $archetype

for server use: still working on it. $server doesn't work.

Whatever comes after the space after gameamp.com will be what is seen after your global name. If you do this for a chat channel with more than one word in it, ( Blaster Masters, for example) you need to put "" around the name of the channel. Also, you want to type a space or two after the last thing you add into the bind, so it doesn't butt up against your message.

There is a lot of useful info being shared in-game through our chat channel, guys and gals, but many of you are missing it without even knowing it, cause you cant see it. If you are already a member of the channel, we wanna hear from ya. If you aren't, feel free and welcome to join us. Just select join chat channel and type in gameamp.com. You don't have to be invited.

Thanks for posting this. I do notice that there are way more people on the channel then I ever see talk. That's fine of course. I troll on a channel or two myself, but with this info, someone who wants to chat on the channel can get a bind set up. Good times.

I think one of the main reasons people don't chat as much, or should I say "I" don't chat as much is that I still only know a few people who are on there, and it's not as easy to have that fun bantering spirit if you don't know who the other guy is and if they can hear sarcasm through a chat window. :)

But good tips on the binding. That did make a huge difference for me when I learned it.

I had not known about the channel until recently and now default join when I sign into CoH-CoV. I too noticed that people may be in channel but do not chat alot, and since I hate talking to myself (the voices in my head bother me, they speak Greek anyways so I do not understand them) I chat now and again, trying to ilicit some conversation, even when I am on missions. Great way to keep in contact with Amppers. Just a quick FYI this chat channel is cross server. I game primarily on Champion but I am able to talk to any member of the channel regardless of what server they are on! Awesome channel...awesome community.

So do you need an invite to join the channel or is it open to all? I've known about the channel for awhile now but haven't really thought about trying to join until recently. (Probably about time I quit lurking around the site and get more active, I know.)

I've edited the OP to include a couple more commands to add your AT and server name to your bind. I've tried the AT one, so I know it works. Not sure about the server one, but I've been told there is one. Play around with it if it doesn't work for you.

Im also always in the chat whenever I am logged on. My global names always have some sort of Cr3 or Cr3ss3nt within it, so I will be easy to pick out. (Yes there are multiple, different story for a different day)

But the channel is fun, its cool to be able to talk to everyone in the game. I am bind master (You won't believe what shenanigans my MM pets have gotten into) so theres ussually some awesome stuff on my name.

Nice write up on how to use the chat channel. I like to see what everyone is up to. Its hard to follow some of the conversations because I get involved in my mission, or redoing my enhancements and end up missing whats going on.
