thinking of switching over from WoW. what is the PvP system like in D&D? better then WoW's? and also how is the leveling. i know there is only 12 levels, but i heard its hard to get. is the cap going to raise? and how long does it take to get to 12? i played Guild Wars and i couldnt stand the low level cap. and how big is the map and traveling compared to WoW?

The world is much smaller than WoW. Most of the quests take place in one city.
The PvP only happens in the pubs and you cannot get any gear from those that you kill.
As for leveling, here's the chart:
Level Experience Total Benefit
1 0 Feat
2 10,000 -
3 30,000 Additional Feat
4 60,000 +1 to any ability score
5 100,000 -
6 150,000 additional feat
7 210,000 -
8 280,000 +1 to any ability score
9 360,000 Additional feat
10 450,000 -
This was before the lvl cap raise. Each lvl is divided up into 1/4s. Every time you get 1/4 of the xp needed to advance, you gain a rank and an action point which you can use to get a enhancement (race or class).
You can get to lvl 5 in about 20 hours. I have heard of people getting to 10 in 7 days, that would be a lot of time put in. I have 2 lvl 11, 2 lvl 8 and 1 7. I am a casual player, I'm on once during the weekdays for about 2 hours and on the weekend I put in about 8-10 hours.
I hope this answered some of your questions, let me know if you have more.
Best of luck!

Thanks for the detailed info. I was lurking around on this one and have not tried this one yet but will most likely give the 10 day trial a go at some point in the next few months. The game is also supposed to have built in voice chat I am told.

DDO does have built in voice chat. I've enjoyed playing, just realize that it is not PnP even though it is governed by the 3.5 rules. Glad to help!
Best of Luck!

How do you make a character in this, or is it a disc-used game??? (I just signed up on this site, can't figure it out...)

Just like most MMOs, you'll create a character after you register and then the first place you go is kind of a training area where you will get familiar with the commands. Once you have installed the game from disc, you will not need the disc again, the character and you accumulated items/exp/wealth get saved on the server that you choose to play on. Go to DDO.com/forums and register there to get a feel for what's going on, the server forums are a good place to see what happens and who plays on what server. I hope you enjoy it! I know I have.
Best of luck!

It is really nice to see some new folks around this part of GameAmp and some old hands jumping in with good answers too. :)
