| How to thread for Test Server! |
|
|
To help heroes be able to access the Test/Training Server and be able to find the information quick I am creating a pin thread on the How-To-Test Server. This thread will be locked so you dont have to scour this site or any other site on how to get into test and move heroes over. I will try to get this to the easiest form possible with direct links and easy to follow steps. The 1st thing I will explain is how to get the Test Server on your computer. This isnt a hard thing to do it just takes some paying attention. I will break this down into simple steps:
1) Go to My Computer
2) Access the (C:) Drive
3) Access the Progam Files folder
4) Acess the City of Heroes folder
5) Right click CoHUpdater file and select Create Shortcut
6) Next go to the newly created Shortcut CoHUpdater and then right click then go to Properties (at the bottom)
7) Now once you are in Properties; you'll want to go to the area that says Target.
8) In this Target area you will see this:
'C:Program FilesCity of HeroesCohUpdater.exe'
at the end of this you are goin to add: [space]-test
9) The Target area should now look like this:
\"C:Program FilesCity of HeroesCohUpdater.exe\" -test (there should be a space after the " and before the -)
10) Click Apply and/or Ok
11) Once done just click on the shortcut and then it will begin to download all the files needed to access Test Server
Now I will provide a link that will allow you to move your heroes from Live Server to Test. You can the same hero on Test as many times as you want. What will happen is they will had a 1 or 2 behind the name. This allows you to try many different power combonations, travel powers, enchancements, and anything else you can think of without worrying about future consquence. If you dont like the setup just delete the hero and re-copy. All you will need to do to move you hero over is to access the link below and input your Game Account Name. This should be the information you enter to access the servers to the game. To move your hero access this link: Hero Transfer.

That was an abslute awesome job. That was soooo easy. I have been trying to get on the test server with no success for a long time. Now I will FINALLY be able to see the arena.

Wow Grifter I wasn't going to bother with doing anything involving the Test Server because I thought it would require too much technical mumbo jumbo and I just wanted to get to playing. Now I'll actually check it out. What are all the different things you can do on Test Server anyways?

The Test Server really just allows you to test out new content that's being added to the game. You can see what the new content is that's being tested on the opening page that loads before you log in.
A side-effect of the test server is that you can transfer a character to the server that has a banked up Respec, whether it's earned or a gift respec. Transfer the character to the test server, respec the character, test out a few missions and see how he/she does. If it doesn't work, transfer the character again and give it another shot. If it does, respec the character on live.
It also lets you test out power choices before you actually level your character on live. Basically to do this, earn your level on live, but don't train. Transfer your character to Test and level up there. Grab whatever power you're thinking about and try it out. If you like it, make that choice on Live. If not, pick something else and try it out.
Lastly, the test server will allow you to have Arena battles with users on other servers. So if you have friends on Guardian and you play on Triumph, you can both transfer your characters to the test server and have an Arena battle. It won't MEAN anything, but it could be fun.

The I5 content hasn't been put up on test yet. For the most part, test is the same as live right now.

you have to do a respectrial 1st and at the end choose the respec as the reward... you can earn 3 respecs over the career of your toon and can get the 1st one at lvl 24

Not at all old news. They keep the test server updated so that they can get costumers to provide feedback. The test server also helps you by the fact that you can see how your guy is affected by doing whatever to him, while not actually affecting your regular server toon.

I believe the test server has exactly the same code on it as the live servers right now.

No need to apologize! The test server is where they put the new content to have all the bugs worked out. Like right now the latest update (Issue 7) is on the test server. YOu can kinda look at it like a beta test. It actually works well, the dev's can find out if there are any bugs and get them fixed (for the most part) before the new update hits the live server. It is also a nice sneak peak at what is coming in the next issue.

Should be pretty much the exact same thing, although you might have to change "City of Heroes" to "City of Villains" if that's where your program is installed. You might also have to change CoHUpdater.exe to CoVUpdater.exe.
This would only be if you bought City of Villains BEFORE City of Heroes.

i finnaly got to the test server it kinda looked boaring, sorry about that,but there were no one there and ithought i would be able to reach to lvl 40???? anyone KNOW what to do there? sence i missed the Party and thats the only time wheni see statesman and all the Super heroes and villains

I have followed all the steps and Iall I get is "cannot connect to login server. Please see coh.com for details" and I can not find any! I log into my regular account and its fine but it will not let me get into the test server. Any solutions? Maybe the files are wrong.

When you right click on the CoHUpdater, make a "Shortcut" (that is key...not a copy but a shortcut) then go to the recently made "Shortcut to CoHUpdater" right click on that....select Properties at the very bottom (of the right clicked list). When you right click on the shortcut and select Properties, TARGET will be highlighted. You cant miss it. You will see:
Target Type:
Target Location:
Target:
Target is the only one you can change, once you get to that resume following the directions I created. Hope that helps.
