Lockpick Retention and Gold Drops

After hearing and reading many an opinion about how accurate lockpick retention percent really is,and having formed a few myself, I decided to start tracking my lockpick retention, in both hardmode and normal. Let's see if the perception really is reality.

Some of this was chest running, others was as I played. All of it was on Faith (my main character), and only recorded if the stated retention was the same as what I started with.

So far, here are my stats

This is an ongoing project, and I will post updates as my data set grows.

RE: Lockpick Retention and Gold Drops

nice work, though anet can always argue that it works by averages, and if you get a rubbish retention rate, some else will be getting an above average rate, which still sucks.

i like the comparison between nm and hm, and including the gold vs purple rates.

RE: Lockpick Retention and Gold Drops

yeah, this is something that has been noted, about the retaining rate of lockpicks in NM and HM. you get lucky points for every lockpick retained, and so people could theoretically do a lot of chest runs in NM, and retain their lockpicks for 250 lucky points per retain.

thus making it cheaper than playing chance overall.

but as you have proved above, doing the NM chests doesnt give you as much loot when selling and merching stuff. obviously in HM you will pick up eite tomes etc, which can be sold for anything from 5-10k.

so i guess it would be more interesting to keep a record of how much money you also make, from selling golds, tomes etc, from HM runs, then re-buying lockpicks to a standard amount, say 10.

so after a run, see how many lockpicks you are left with, sell all your loot you gained, and see how much profit/loss you have made getting your lockpicks back up to 10.

then keep a record of how much cash you get from NM chest runs, and does it coincide with the fact that you have to buy less lockpicks, making it more/less profitable as a long term thing.

all in all... NM chests with lockpickls imo R GAY...

well, i dont tend to use them anyways.

Lockpicks in NM are better for lucky points and maximizing the return on investment for treasure hunter. It all comes down to what you after. If you are after the profit factor, don't use lockpicks.

Not a bad idea, considering I've always considered lockpicks a "money sink" but are they really? Again perception versus reality.

I will start recording that also, and include a cost/earned based upon 10 lockpicks. So, in theory, in NM I should get 16 chests and normal 12, then see what the money earned or lost was (12k is my cost of 10 picks).

They are still a good source of easy lucky points though. I've been 55-farming the gates of kryta mission in nm for orr emblems and there are 1 or 2 chests every run....haven't broken a single lockpick.

meh, maybe its just me then, i always break and get a purple, just not worth the money.

although, i have never actually bought a lockpick in my life. i always just let them drop. but because i'm a farming machine, i have about 10 on me anyways most of the time.

running chests in HM gives me money, by selling unids and elite tomes. Free title.
