love utcomp, wouldn't play without it any more etc, etc. ok, so now that I got that out of the way ;)
One of the things I notice alot is oddities with combos. Specifically, the ball will fly, I take a shot at it and the primary fire stops at the ball. However, it won't detonate. I know this because normally, the primary fire will hit a wall and leave the glowing dot where it hit. No glowing dot and yet no detonation either.
So, if this is just one of the "visual oddities" which are known (and accepted) then ok. From what I understand, I would have missed the combo anyway (but dang it sure doesn't look like it).
But I've been curious about this for awhile now and figured I would ask. Thanks.

Yeah, it's just another visual inconsistency. I do, however, find it easier to hit moving combos with newnet off. Whether or not this is due to an unperfect code or the shot having to be actually more precise to hit a combo, I'm not sure. I agree it's a little annoying, but over some time using it I hardly get combo inconsistencies. I must have gotten used to actually aiming straight at it. But yes, combos are probably the most noticable thing with an inconsistent or high ping.
It's not enough to succeed, others must fail.

ok thanks dp. I see more of these now than ever. Don't know why.
Potentially noobish followup question here but here goes... With respect to the "Reduce Mouse Lag" and "Mouse Smoothing" settings, do either of them have undesirable interactions with newnet? Or are they completely independent. Not understanding the details behind these settings, I'm not sure.
Thanks.

keep reduce mouse lag off, and just make sure your system can get over 60fps consistently.
as for easier combos without newnet, i think that is because the shock ball is delayed by XXms and then so is your primary shot...and since people 'predict' in their heads for the primary to the point they don't notice the XXms delay, but they do have time to move around after they fire the shock ball so they notice that delay. so basically it gives you a headstart on moving after you fire the ball, so you have more time to set up and hit the ball when/where you want because you've already compensated in your head for lag with primary shock.
