Here is my system
amd 64 3800+
Saphire x850xt platinum edition
1 gig of some kingston dual ddr ram (not sure on speeds)
Arsrock a8x-m (shite bord i know)
Sata Raid 250 gb 7200 rpm
Audigy 2
Now then i run bf2 at 1280 x 1024 85hz with aa off everything on high except shadows and lighting(medium). When i load the game up it takes around 30 seconds to stop glitchng lagging as most of us get (I hope)
The game runs fine, now i have brought this ram http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Prod...roductID=113376
2gigs
Will this improve the loading and performance of the game? Im not to worried about how quic i can get into the server im bothered more on the performance ingame, I have used xp tweak and some registry managment proggys and they seemd to make it alittle better. U are prolly wondering what im fussed about, basically the ram I currently have has been in my system for about year and a half so im adament that it aint all much cop for bf2 as i do get some spkies now and again,or is it that my grfx card cant handle these settings?
ta Leigh

People throw the "very well" phrase around too loosely. What I would consider "very well" on a given setting is 55 fps average. The game may look fine between 30 and 50 fps but I do not consider that running the game well.
Even on medium graphics the 9800 is not a very good performer in this game. And then once you turn'm up, well, it shows its weakness. If you already have a 9800, okay, but if you are trying to purchase a new card, the x800 line and the 6800 line of cards are getting more and more affordable.
As pertaining to RAM, it seems that (on high graphics) the lag threshold is just eeking around the 1 gb mark. The quandry is that because of the optimability of 2 sticks of equal ram, all the folks who currently have 1gb (2x512) would have to shell out at least 230.00$ to get new 2 gigs of quality RAM. And running 1.5 gigs of RAM is often an unstable config depending on your setup. Even the way I have my 1.5 setup gives me ram read errors sometimes. I have 2 double sided 512's running together with 2 singleside 256's in dual channel and my manual specifically says this may result in instability. Now it does make a big difference in the game on high graphics for me by having added the 512 to my 1 gig. It seems like on high graphics that the game needs just over a gig to perform without SWAP LAG. I know that when I alt tab to desktop during a game the mem use reads almost 900,000 Kilobytes. And as some of you may know when you alttab to look at mem use the ram usage goes down. What this means is that while in game the RAM mem use is definitely over 1 gig probably by a good 50 megabytes.
