Enemy Level in Missions

Hi
I am a level 11 mutation defender, ever since about level 5 or so every mission I get seems WAY over my level. Currently I have the Flux mission for the cave-in scenario, right in the door everyone is a level 22. You site rates this as an easy mission other than the long walk from Flux. Any comments on why it seems so out of reach?

Although the docs dont seem to cover it at all (like most things) I am shown as "unyeilding" no explanation of what that means.... one time an in-game charactor offered to change that for a price but I declined - is this rating related to my difficulties????

I want the game to be difficult and have been making decent progress but when faced with several or all foes in a mission at more than twice your own level it is hard to see finishing that mission when they give it to me.

On a releted note, I have only had 3 contacts since entering altlas yet your table for missions shows many with missions below my level I was never introduced to or were offered, is this based on archtype? or am I missing something else...

Thanks -Delphon

Re: Enemy Level in Missions

Howdy and an unofficial welcome. In short, yes that is the difficulty setting. Unyielding is quite high. You probably want to be on heroic or maybe 1 up. there is more information here...

http://cityofheroes.gameamp.com/forum/showTopic/10301.php

some of the missions are based on your "Origin"(magic, tech etc). Based on origin you get a different contact. Also based on the missions you do outside the hollows you might get introduced to different contacts. not sure if the contacts in Atlas and glaaxy give different missions.

Re: Enemy Level in Missions

Great!

That answers alot, the thread was very helpful too. I tryied to be independent and searched for "unyeilding" but found not posts....her post under "Heroic" was right to the point....

Now I just have to find a "hero corps field analysts" any help there? I did not use the one I met but I also have not idea who or where it was, unyeilding sounded a bit like me and I moved on....

Thanks again -Delphon

Re: Enemy Level in Missions

the hero corps analist in atlas is in the northeast cornor of atlas plaza.....

also as for you not getting more contacts you need to return to the original contact that told you to go to the hollows... he will then send you to another contact... go to that guy and if he doesn't give you any missions he will send you to another.... i think you have been spending a lot of time doing the hallows missions there for you have hit your other contacts... in there they will only give you contacts for others in the hallows

Is it just this mission that has mobs twice your level or have there been any others? Even if the diffuculty was set to 'Invincible' they shouldnt be that hi level. I'd suggest reporting it as a bug.

this is true... have you encounted this often? it should only be a few lvls above your lvl w/ the setting you have it on... and you are never expected to take bad guys down that are 10 lvl above you

Re: Enemy Level in Missions

Excellent

I just figured the contacts were in a serial string as one gave me another each time I completed all their missions, Winscott gave me Flux so I went there...It seemed like things were excalating much faster than my level suited - no wonder I am unyeilding I am a solo defender and Im killing 15-22s (although not on my first try) Electric Eel was the bane of my existance for 4 deaths but he yeilded in the end ;-)

Thanks much - Delphon

Re: Enemy Level in Missions

I completely agree with Trans. Even set at Unyielding, you shouldn't be battling enemies level 20+ when you're a level 11. That just doesn't make much sense. Also, Jeni is right about returning to the original contact that referred you to David Wincott in The Hollows. Although there is much fun to be found in The Hollows, you're skipping numerous contacts in other zones by staying there.

Re: Enemy Level in Missions

This has been an ongoing problem since level 7 or so. All missions and bosses exceed my level by at least 5+ Only exception to this has been the "kill 10 of something" but then I choose ones +/-2 levels to attack.

I can take out about 10 -2 levels and 5 at my level - over that its hit and run but I can confidently kill 2+ in groups of 6 or less.

Can this be caused by prior performance, one day the trains didnt work (now I know to enter form the left if this happens) so I walked (ok, ran) back from Kings Row at level 7 through Skyway City and had to fight some 20+ enemies while running like a ninny for the atlas gate ;-) Stealth is a good thing, spawning on top of you is not a good thing. ;-)

Thanks

Malicious

I was just being myself "unyielding I guess" I was staying in the Hollows until everyone was dead.....

I will return to the path - may solve alot of these problems.

THanks

Re: Enemy Level in Missions

The quick and dirty explanation is:

Heroic = Your level
Tenacious = Your level; Increased number of Minions/Lts
Rugged = Your level +1
Unyielding = Your Level +1; Increased number of Minions/Lts.
Invincible = Your Level +2

Take into account that you may find a -2/+2 level spread in your missions even on heroic, and that team size has a significant impact n the quality of the spawns that generate. For instance, solo or in a duo, you shouldn't get a Boss-class spawn. Teams of six or more on Unyielding or Invincible will b e very dificult missions.

As for Hero corp analysts, there's one in every standard zone. Note that with Issue 5 due soon, the difficulties will represent significant changes in difficulty. This may sound obvious, but right now, teams run on Unyielding or Invincible as a standard mode. With I5, this is likely to be a recipe for total party kills, or at least multiple defeats.

this is a major bug! you need to let support know about this and maybe they can get your missions doing what they are supposed to be... i cna't belive you've stuck it out so long w/ your missions being that insane

Re: Enemy Level in Missions

I am a bit on the persistent side.

s for support I have reduced my level 1 notch and now its mostly boring, weird thing is now I am getting way more experience for killing the same guys as I was at unyeilding so I will try resetting to unyeilding again and post up support if it is not as expected.

I am now in Perez....groups of 20 or so...not a nice place - I wouldnt recommend to 'Come play in the Park' and I am having a bad feeling about there not being a hospital on the map ;-) Alfonzo or what ever his name is will have to deal with me for the so far absence of 'lost' here in the park but I'll just kill what I find or be killed......

Thanks again, Delphon - Virtue

Re: Enemy Level in Missions

On a related topic, anyone know how the villain levels in task forces are determined? I know team size and reputation setting play a role, but I have heard a couple of conflicting explanations. I have heard that villain levels in task forces are hard set at the highest level of the task force, and I have also heard that it is determined by the highest level hero in the party. Anyone have some input there?

move the difficulty back up, maybe dropping it and raising it again will fix the glitch. Perez park?
love it.

Re: Enemy Level in Missions - FINAL REPORT

To all who replied and helped

Moving down an level and back up has restored the balance to things - I now get large groups of +2s but not +22s ;-)

Greatful for all the help

Now on to other issues in another thread...
