A new Profession thingy

What if Guild Wars was looking for a new profession.
What powers would it have, and what would be it's weapons?

Re: A new Profession thingy

well, I don't think it's about professions, but more about races... cuz if you check any mmorpg'S professions, they're all the same, but there's difference between races, for example, a warrior-elf could be a huge dmg dealer(dual wield! :D), but w/ a poor armor, but a dwarf-warr could be focused on defense and all that kind of stuff...
but for sure there's still a lot to do in this game, maybe not adding new professions, but adding one or 2 races (I heard of dwarves coming soon!) would be sooo great... and there's still a lot to do on every single profession (add a stealth mode for rangers or things like that...mmm well not but that's just an example :P)
- maybe some special skills unique to a 1st/2nd profession combo? -
anyway...that's just my point of view!

-Artalas Foribir : W/E20 (shocking swordman)
-Mephisto the Necro : N/Me20 (fuel leaker)

now there is an intersting idea, put with the game setup the way it is, how would that work? i guess that would also rule out a rogue or scoundrel class because in a party system, it would be hard to sneak around or attack an enemy without that enemy seeing your group

Re: A new Profession thingy

What i think they should do is have diffrent kinda of profetion advancments for example as a nec you should be able to do a quest that gives you a new name and opens up more spells for you to use that you cant get normally like if you use curse, you could be called plag bringer or something cool and give them a few points into that attrobuit point area to make them stronger in what they do

Thats just my idea =)

lvl 20 War/Nec Renaa Murgi main character
lvl 20 Nec/Mnk Rena Murgi aka Undead master
lvl 20 War/El Carmon Murgi
lvl 20 Mes/El

Re: A new Profession thingy

I think that new races would be great! They could have different advancement opportunities and skills associated to the race. I would also like to see more pets. This is a bit off the topic but I think it would be cool to see more armor and weapon models in the game. I don't think that there needs to be any more classes, however it would be cool to have different categories of skills. Like Berserker, Dragon Slayer, or whatever you wanted to be. That would be great, maybe even differences between races... man, there could be tons of combinations if they did a little more character details.

Re: A new Profession thingy

yeah I know...but i said it, there's still a lot to do! I think it could work (but it's sure that some fixes would be necessary). For example, ''stealth: stance. for 8...15 seconds you are totally invisible to all foes. You become visible if you enter their range. If you are detected, you have a -40 armor penalty for 8-3 seconds.''
it would give opportunity to set traps and things like that!
I think they should seriously think about that!

Re: A new Profession thingy

I would just make it like,
Stealth:
Stance. For 8-30sec you have a 50%-75% smaller aggro' circle and move 30% slower. This skill ends if you take damage.

That isn't true. Human party members can listen and make decisions and all they would have to do for henches is implement the follow/stop commands that are already in some of the missions.

yeah but it's better when you're really invisible... anyway, just by giving'em the idea, I'm sure arenanet could create a really cool stealth mode!

Re: A new Profession thingy

I would add about new races...

BUT you asked about professions. Ninja/samurai, dragon master/tamer, illusion control comes to mind maybe?

Well, I one time wanted to have the lowest credibility on guildwars.gameamp and went almost to -200 in credit, but in the end decided to change my ways and have positive credit instead.

It would have to be more of a peasent... Well maybe not a peasent but something medieval. Not a tank rampaging the place or seomthing like that and high-tech ninja that jump on trees... That would be a nightmare, There isnt a fire brigade.

haha
nah...I see where you wanna come but...I think you should play WoW or DAoC (EQ2...dunno...bah anyway!) if you want more ''real life gaming'' cuz Gw is a quite simple game, based on simple fun (like simple massacre :D)! cuz if you want to trade and make some cash you just have to farm!

Re: A new Profession thingy

My idea of a new profession goes with what was said earlier: rangers that sneak, or possibly just an entirely new class. And here's how rangers that sneak might work in case you wanna know:

Sneak will be a skill (or another possibility would be Hide), so in order to sneak you get one less other skill. Here's its stats:

Sneak
Stance
(Expertise or Wilderness Survival)
10 or 15 energy
0 casting time
30 or 45 recharge time
1 upkeep

For {some number} seconds, you have a {some number}% chance of being hidden from opponents that could otherwise see you.

(For the highlighted parts, you have either one or the other, not both)

OR

Hide
Skill
(Expertise)
15 energy
5 casting time
45 or 60 recharge time
1 upkeep

For {some number} seconds, you have a {some number}% chance of being hidden from opponents that could otherwise see you.

OR they might even have Hide named "Cat's Stealth" or something and make it Beast Mastery

Re: A new Profession thingy

One skill should be 'Get into bear costume'... Or tree pose. Stand there like a tree, no one suspects a thing!

What would the attributes be?

I mainly play Guild Wars because there is no monthly fee (woo hoo). If I had loads of money I would probably play WoW or something.

Re: A new Profession thingy

I think it would be cool to have a new class that can control the weather. Lightning storm (like meteor shower), Gust of wind (knock back opponents), Torential Rain (reduce enemy's visibility and accuracy), Snow Storm (slow's down enemy), etc.

I still miss my weather control character in City of Heroes. *sighs* ;-)

Yes that would be a good idea :) Warriors and Rangers get barely any energy and its annoying...

In other words... An Elementalist? ;) They control Elements of the world such as Earth, fire, water etc. So it wouldnt be a new class but would be good skills :) Torential Rain would suck. In a world thats supposed to give us guys no sleep it would suck having to dry your armour :/

Apothacery

I think there should be a guy that makes potions aswell... Infact. I hope they add that :) Soiunds like something good as long as it make you go places for stuff. There should be small things like that aswell. Maybe your class could also do fishing/cooking and stuff aswell

... Like in runescape... but better.. much much.... better.

Re: A new Profession thingy

Since this about ideas on new professions, I'll post this thought here.

Grappler class
Focus on unarmed fighting, grapples, under-handed tatics, and evasion[Class specific]

Unarmed fighting is blunt and weaker then that of most weapons, though has attacks of 1 per second. Gauntlets will technically be the "weapons" for this class. Sure not really weaponless, but I can't think of a better name for it. This will have the "weapon" skills for unarmed fighting such as things called Flicker Jab, Feint(If opponent dodges, they are knocked down and take 5-10 dmg), ect.

Grapples, these will also be mostly weapon skills but with effects. Such as being able to throw an opponent some distance, bind an enemy so they can't attack/cast but you can't attack yourself, ect.

Under-handed tatics, basically the cheap tricks of street fighting. Knee Strike(Crippling), Foot Stomp(Disruption), ect.

Evasion, the class only skill. Passive effect of making you only slightly harder to hit. For skills, I haven't thought that hard here.

The downsides would be no class-specific healing skill, and armor just above a mage but lower then a rangers. Also no attack speed improvement skills that aren't elite. Can't have things like Illusionary Weapon come back to haunt this class.
________________

There, got this idea out of my head. Not sure if its been suggested before, but I might as well once contribute to a "Professions" thread.

Re: A new Profession thingy

hmmm, new professions....

how about:
Summoner -
be able to summon different monsters to fight by his side

Druid -
nature based elementalist/monk type class

Phase Magician -
spacial based magic (slow, teleport, speed buffs)
physical damage spells (disintegration, energy bursts...)

a lil off topic but i like that idea( unique skills ), i've always wanted to have a skill(s) that was a combination of both 1st/2nd but i doubt it would ever happen becuz they're too many combinations of classes to mix around

but anything is possible right ?

Re: A new Profession thingy

I think it would be nice to have a "possessor" class in the game, something like a cross between a necro and a mesmer but even more devious. Or perhaps expand these classes with new skills. Some skills that come to my mind are:

Possession (stance): for n seconds your character falls into trance and you gain the control of the target enemy character instead. Possession ends if your own (not possessed) character takes physical damage or the target dies.

Hallucinations (hex spell): for n second the target is hallucinating and sees all the other characters in the game as random hostile monsters (combine this with epidemic for riotous hilarity :)

Stupor (hex spell): for n seconds the target loses control of his character. Stupor ends if the target takes physical damage.

Intoxication (hex spell): for n seconds the screen of the target player becomes blurry and the character has a n% probability to miss in attack/fail in casting a spell.

Lag (hex spell): no, really! for n seconds the screen of the target player only updates each m fractions of a second

Shadow of death (hex spell): for n seconds the screen of the target player goes completely black (but the player retains control of the character). This is different from blindness where only the character cannot see around.

Re: A new Profession thingy

And as always, I forgot one skill worth mentioning:

Mindreading(stance): for n seconds your character falls in trance and you see the world from the perspective of the targeted/random enemy (similar to how you can watch your own team members when dead). Mindreading ends if your character takes physical damage.

Don't worry. WoTC doesn't have the copyrights to any of these. Nor do they make a habit of suing companies who infringe on what they consider to be theirs. They just buy 'em from petty cash these days.

Are you aware that most of what you've summed up here is available to you through Air & Water discilpines in the Elementalists Profession?

Now to throw this thread way of topic:

Ya know, personally I'm hoping that new races, if any, will be mostly cosmetic in nature. I.e. No special abilities. Why? Because they tend to further increase the allready overweight tendency towards stereotyping in RPG/Fantasy games. Oh, for a Hammer wielding, Plate wearing, music loathing Elf, instead of a dual-wielding kitty-toating Ranger/Hairdresser Elf. Just once! I like the fact that with just humans there's 30 different combinations to make with just professions. Make that 60 to 90 if you consider Attributes as well. All of that with just two races, mankind and anatomically-pleasing females. ;-)
What could other (standard fantasy) races possibly add to this except add stereotyping?

That's why I hope "those who serve" will not make elves slightly more agile but less strong and vice versa for Dwarves. We've seen that, lots and lots of times. Basically I'm routing for no elves at all and Charr or Aaxtze as playable races :-)

Edit:
Woops. Hadn't spotted Silly Rangers post so my smart-ass remark about ele profs was not only smart-assed but redundant :-)
