How many people are interested in playing LotRO? Any die-hard Tolkien fans out there? Do you think this game can ever capture the sheer awesomeness of the books/movies?

I find some of the races, classes quite interesting. I only just found out about this site from the CoH news page. I didn't know they were bringing it out until then.
Living in the Uk i will likely have to wait forever from them to bring it out accross here. I was wanting a nw online RPG to play. Being a fan of Tolkeins work it'll be very interesting to see how it works out. The screenshots look encouraging.
I will likely play an elf :D

Definitely. I have loved LOTR ever since reading the Hobbit in 4th grade. I couldn't believe how awesome the movies turned out and hope the MMORPG is equally impressive. No idea at this point the type of character I would play, but have always been partial to dwarves.

I will try the beta first but i`m playing now Guilwars and with that game it is that you can only go out town with a limmited amount of people(max is 8).
Is it the same with LOTR?
Or is LOTR the same as World of Warcraft?

As sure as Valinor, I will venture into Middle Earth!
I have been a Tolkien fan since '79 when I first read "The Hobbit". I am a fan of the movies although I don't believe that anyone other then J.R.R. himself could have captured the spirit of the books, but Peter Jackson did as well as any other mortal might. Now I'm excited to be able to visit Arda and become a part of the history of Middle Earth.

I do not believe that JRR Tolkien could have done any better. There is WAY to much non-verbalized information in the books, and although one could put symbolic scenes into the movie, it would never match everyones interpretation of the book.
I think that there are few that could have come anywhere close to what Peter Jackson did. Think of the dedication you would need to have in order to spend that amount of time on a single project that could very well have fallen flat on it's face.

I totally agree with that statement. However, no one could have had insight into Tolkien's mind better than Tolkien himself. Yes, a few things are left to interpretation by the reader, i.e. the argument about whether or not a Balrog has wings... and if two handed wielding would be against Tolkien's lore. I've seen tons of space on other forums trying to bang out the answer to these question and some people actually have taken offense to the fact that the movies depict Legolas using a dual-wielding style. I don't have a problem with this, but it is obvious that some fans are far more expectant than myself or others.
It will never be known what, if any, opionion Tolkien might have had about PJ's work. I think Mr. Jackson did a wonderful job in producing these movies. I would just be interested in knowing what JRR would have changed about the big screen version of his trilogy.

i say that alot of people liked the movies... but they are like a fogged up window into tolkiens world.
PJ had to use things that took away from the lore in order to make the movie worth watching. if he had stuck directly to the lore i personaly think the movie would be worst off.
Especialy since tolkien didn't put gimli or pippin as comic relifs (well pippin was more trouble maker than CR in book)
but Pj added that and made cirtain parts funny.
Ex. The run across rohan. would have been boerning running... with gimli falling and defenting his pride it made it funny
Back to the topic... yes i will definatly get this game

I would like to try it, but seeing as it's made by turbine, and I was not impressed with DDO, I won't expect much more.

Oh I've checked your site out a few times before. And I usually play a game for just a bit before I join up w/ any group. I feel I have to learn the game a bit in order to be any kind of productive member in a guild.
But I will continue keeping an eye on your guild. It is very, very nicely put together. And I love the hierarchy system.

I would like to run with your guild in game some time. It makes deciding on a guild (after I learn the game) much eaiser.

I will absolutely play. I hope that if you pre-order you get into the beta because that would give me a sure-shot at getting in. This whole guessing game is getting on my nerves... I check my email about 3 times a day now.

Amagad yes ive been following development of this game since way before Turbine got it, I think sierra had just given it over to Vivendi when I found it. Ive been in love with ME for about 30 or so years atm. My Daughter is 8 and just gaining her first insights into ME :)

Greetings Xyleph. It's crazy to see how many WoW players would be willing to give up their accounts. If this game is that good (and I'm sure it will be =) ), it seems sto me that WoW is going to take a pretty big hit once LotRO hits the shelves. I guess we can all hope.

i might try and import a copy of the US version to the EU. its very sad turbine gave the EU rights to codemasters since they are probably one of the worst companies in the world particularly their mmo services. lotro looks much better now than the first meo screens all those years ago but its sad you cant play the evil races (orc's ftw). i have a feeling the public will have to wait until 2007 to get a go on this game cos E3 2006 it looked half finished. shame their is no mounts i hope the pvp is good cos theres no end game raiding like world of warcraft and everquest series. i hope to play the burning crusade and the vangaurd first so lotro is not at the top of my list but if they dont use codemaster like they did for DDO (which sucked btw) or make it easy for EU to play US version then i look forward to play this game.

Welcome to gameamp Blamoth... although it sure sounds like you are not very high on LotRO.
I'd like to refute your remark about the game only being half finished. Before E3, Turbine stated that the playing environment was ready to ship and all that needed to be done was mostly fleshing out and tweaking before it's ready for Beta. Beta will start pretty soon and even if the final product is a 2007 release, it will be early 2007.
However, I'm inclined to believe that it will be ready to ship by the end of December. Why? Marketing. What better gift to get that LotR fan on your list? They'd be crazy not to take advantage of that.
On your other observations, it really doesn't matter to me that I can't play an orc, or that the PvP will not be conventional. My only concern is that it portrays Middle Earth as closely as any MMORPG can, and I'm confident they've done that.

lol, I am a die-hard tolkien fan, I've read all books including silmarillion and return of the shadow, + have all movies on dvd extended version. Sry , im trying not to brag, im just showing you how obessed I am. + I have Frodo's sting-sterling silver. Legolas's white Knives ( all real) and a $200 gondorian ranger bow. hehehe of course I will try the game. Although, from the info we have of lotro, I think the game could be so much better, I think it missed out on alot of key events. It seems that this game is based just on battle and warfare. But nonetheless, I will try the game.
