Cone Effect

I'm a claws/invuln scrapper and just got my cone effect attack. However, after using it several times, I am unclear on the concept of "cone"

How does the cone effect work? Does it start at the target and expand behind it? Or does it start expanded and end at the point of the target?

I am very confused.

Re: Cone Effect

I can't say definitively, but the most logical description would be a cone where the Hero is at the vertex, expanding outward by X degrees and forward by Y distance, depending on range.

EDITED TO ADD: On top of what RageUnderSilk has to say, I could add that melee-range cone attacks work best when you remember two things. First, target the guy standing behind the guy in front of you. That way, you're sure to hit both. Second, it works better if you can Taunt/Confront a thick group of mobs. The AI has mobs avoid cone-shaped formations, when left to themselves. If you agitate them (with Brawl, if nothing else), they'll pile up so that you can hit 3 or 4 at a time.

Re: Cone Effect

I had a young Dark Melee scrapper with his cone attack as well and as far as I can tell, the cone seems to start at the target. Either that, or it starts just infront of the hero. Either way it's very narrow. You have to manuever JUST right to get more than one person caught up in it. Usually, the baddies have to appear to be standing one behind the other (but still in melee range) for you to hit both.

In other words, the cones are somewhat useless.

i would have to strongly disagree... now i play an ar/ele blaster and 3 of my attacks are cone attacks... i also would like to mention that these three attacks are 6 slotted... 5 are damage and 1 is cone range... adding the one slot of cone range onto it makes a WORLD of difference... i have to say i use all three of these attacks in every fight (well unless my full auto takes down all the baddies [and yes full auto is cone range]).... now don't get me wrong, it took me a bit to figure out how to line my shots up just right for the maximum damage.... so i would suggest adding one cone range enh onto it b/f you decide wether you like the power or not...

I also would have to disagree. It is quite tricky to learn how to line up your shots to take advantage of the cone effect, but it soon becomes second nature. Every once in a while you'll still have one of those why-didn't-I-hit-both-of-those-guys moments, but any melee attack where you can hurt more than 1 mob at a time is great. Sometimes you can line it up to get 3 mobs even.

Re: Cone Effect

Not all cones are created equal; Melee (scrapper) cones are smaller than ranged (blaster) cones.

So what is the right way to line up the shot?

Re: Cone Effect

It is all about position and the only way to get it right it to practice. When I got my Cone I went ot atlas and just tried all sorts of angles and hights hover really makes a cone shine bt the way.

Re: Cone Effect

Aye its slightly different. However I can successfully line up multiple enemies using shadow maul (which seems to have a VERY SMALL cone) or that katana melee slash cone.

Takes some practice but you should be able to hit 2-5 enemies.

Main Hero

Gaurdian Server

Deciever.-lvl 29 illusion/kinetics controller

Myriad alts in the 20-1 area.

NO OTHER SERVERS!!
