Lothar is dead again (very minor spoiler if new player)

Lothar is in my party - I am just in the Azurite desert area now. Lothar is great, and I have the best armor I could find/buy on him, but still, Lothar rushes into the fray while everyone else hangs back and slings arrows and spells, which means that Lothar dies (ok, not grave stone dead, but unconscious dead) pretty darn often.

Two of my characters have healing spells in the auto slot, but that doesn't seem to help. Lothar dies.

I read somewhere today to give everyone healing spells - that's a good idea.

In the meantime, does anyone have any good tips on keeping Lothar alive? Or does he just die often on you too?

Re: Lothar is dead again (very minor spoiler if new player)

Actually, in my experience Lothar *never* dies. He's usually the last one standing. The reason is generally because my party members draw more aggro. I will say that Finala (my 2nd combat mage) does not have very many hit points and tends to die quite quickly as she draws aggro immediatley in every fight.

I only have 1 character with healing spells because i want to conserve mana for damage output not for defense.

To balance this out I usually increase the hit point or armor level of that character. Rather then focusing on damage I'll look more at defense. After a few armor substituations i'll generally find the sweet spot.

If Lothar doesn't die, someone generally will. My order of death consistently is: 2nd mage, healer, 1st mage, 2nd barb, ranger, lothar.

If they all concentrate on damaging the furthest player away from the fight it gives my main damage dealers more time to chop away at the countless hordes of bad guys. When the first character dies in my party, they are almost instantly revived by my healer anyway.

True, its hard to die for fighter class characters. Well i stick with two combat mages (main hero and finala) and one fighter (sartan). I like that big and immortal guy :).

the only thing I can think is to control Lothar directly...that way you could retreat when you see he's dieing, then heal, then back to fight

Remember, on warriors hit points are king. The more you load into hit points and strength the better chance you will have of keeping your warriors alive and kicking.

Re: Lothar is dead again (very minor spoiler if new player)

Thanks for the info guys - I thought everyone would have this issue - I guess not! :)

Victorash - yup, that seems to be thing to do. Usually I control my main character, but it seems that taking control of Lothar is a far better thing. That way I direct his actions a little more - my main char does combat magic mostly, and just hangs back mostly to do his thing.

I also have Lothar setup as a dual-weild. This is great as far as damage goes - he can really mow through through monsters - of course, the price is that he doesn't have a shield, and maybe this is part of the problem as well.

Now everyone has healing spells as well (Lothar can't cast it yet - I think I'll have to equip him with the ice spell and have him open some crates and stuff until he has enough nature magic to cast heal) and that will help too.

I should try to put some points into buffing him up. Those advancement points are few and far between, so I usually try to buff up his criticals and speed and stuff first, to make him a real damage machine.

Re: Lothar is dead again (very minor spoiler if new player)

My fighters also are unlikely to die. Depending on whom you are fighting, it could be the lack of armor or the lack of death resistance. Monsters love to cast death spells. (These rays of blood, dunno how it is called exactly)

My order of death (lol) is Deru(archer), Taar(nature), Lothar(2H-sword) and thats it, because my shield/sword char not only never died, but never need to drink a potion. He has like 70% melee resistance, incredible armor value, and 20% life leech. i almost never saw his HPs dropping, a perfect tank.

Giving everyone healing spells seem like a not a good idea, cos instead of _killing_ the enemy the chars will try to use their puny nature magic abilities. Let the nature mage do his job. Instead, give everyone resurrect scrolls.
Hope that helped.

Re: Lothar is dead again (very minor spoiler if new player)

My party is as follows, Taar, Lothar (Sword and shield), Main character (sword and shield), and a combat mage whom I forget the name of. The group works pretty well, I just throw Power Regeneration rings on both my warriors so they can use the Taunt power each fight that actually lasts more than 5 seconds...I've never actually died with this strategy...ever.

Drakkisath, level 82 Sword and shield melee.
