never play'd city of heroes, but it doesn't hurt to try new things, so i say go for it and enjoy, plus the only thing that well cost u is buying the game or access key which depends on how and where u buy it ( online" acess key with game client " or local game store " u get a manual and other goodies " )

I heard city of heroes is an extremeley good game, but sadly i haven't been able to play it myself yet. However, what i can tell you is that Guild Wars is definately worth the money to buy it.

GW is my first MMORPG game, because other games like Everquest and such do not have a point, which doesnt appeal to me. If you like having a storyline, GW has it, and it also has the do what you want side also. And the single-most awsome thing about GW( And what convinced me to buy it) is that you take the game to the store counter, pay for it, AND THATS ALL!!!!!!!!!! No $92873469827364926 dollars a month to play a game you already supposedly bought.

Hi there,
I played the trial version of City of Heros for two weeks and got really into it. Well, I can say you shouldnt expect from Guild Wars: The massive customization possibilities of City of Heros in the matter of creating the looks of a char. In my opinion, a game with as many players as GW should have loads of customization options for the looks of the chars. Unfortunately, in Guild Wars you will get the feeling of having unknown twins from time to time. Nevertheless, I find Guild Wars a more challenging game (all that people keep playing it for some reason dont they?). I dont know how CoH will be with City of Villains, sounds like a very sensible expansion to me, but I believe I can definetively compare CoH with GW. Both of them are quite action focused, not like -for instance- Dark Ages of Camelot, and neither of them got the problem about being unable to really fully enjoy the game because of the level of the character (in CoH you have the examplar/sidekick option and in GW you only have 20 levels plus you are more on less progressivelly taken to the places where you can fight).
Now, about GW being more challenging. Most of the times you wont be able to solo, which means are force to be part of a group. Ok, it is truth that you can use the henchmen, but many times you will rather playing with people, since some places are very hard to play with henchman (sometimes you wont want to concentrate your attacks on a single target, someothers you wont want to aggro foes -henchmen may just walk next to them as they were having a walk in a park- etc, etc.) The foes AI of GW is higher than the one in CoH: Pulling foes is not as simple as in CoH, since they stick toghether, get aggro easier than in CoH, do more proper patroling, etc. Still, the most challenging part -where the games gets its own "personal touch", is the skills which is the main function of the game. As you have probably heard, you can only use 8 skills at a time each time you leave a safe area. That means you have to ponder the foes you are gonna find, think about your strategy, etc. Proffesions and how you mix them is important. You have a main profession and a secondary. Each profession has four or five habilities, one of them is only available for character that take the profession as main profession and not as secondary. Each time you level you gain points that you have to distribute among your habilites. You need to concentrate your forces on a few habilities in order to make skills powerful so, even when there are only six professions you have to specialise on 2 or 3 habilities of the two professions you have. How you do that depends on the skills you like to use for each skill depends on a hability (by the way, you can always change that back and try something else just buy using some points you gain from fighting. Even if you took the wrong second profession, you will have the chance to do a quest to change that in some advanced quests). The importance of the skills you take with you depends, for instance, on your teammates or on the kind of damage you want to inflict, which would be higher or lower depending on the foes you fight (some foes might have better defenses against elemental damage, for instance, but weak against physical...) In the PvE game, that can be more or less planned but if you get into PvP, then it all depends for you can only try to guess what you are going to fight but you wont be certain until you are in the arena and, once there, you will have to do teamwork and react quickly against what you have in front of you. The proper use of skills involves trying to find good combos, trying to plan what you fight against, talk to you teammates, etc. There is never a straight away formula for everything or a perfect weapon for everything or even a perfect armor, you have to adjust yourself to each situation. Is not a matter of simply inflict damage and try to stay alive for, to do that, there are lots of things to considerate, for instance, as i said, the skill combos. Here is a very simplistic example. You are a ranger and got to fight some foes with low armor against fire: You can use a natural spirit that transforms all physical damage into fire damage, problem is that the pshysical damage you and your team will take will also be transform into fire damage... therefore, you take a good armor against fire with you, then the mesmer can take a skill to reduce fire damage and so on....
In GW you can get/cause conditions, hexes, charms, etc. There isnt one single kind of damage, you got poison or bleeding that makes anyone take damage during the time, you can cause weakness or weaken armors against physical damage, you can curse someone so you steal energy from him each time he hits on physical, etc, etc.
I remember the upgrades for your powers in CoH. Not that GW is much more complex but still you get much divesity and a importance in crafing (Eg not all the bows are the same for some are for long distance but slower, some are the opposite, you can use runes on your armor according to what you want to be stronger at, and a long, you can use upgrades according to your char building tactic -like getting more armor against some kind of damage or improving the one you want to make- etc). Lets say its something not as simple as CoH yet not as "complex" or as "enjoyable" as, for instance, WoW.
I know this is getting long and I might be saying things that you already know, but I have also being myself in the "should I get GW or should I not?". I think guildwars fights are more "realistic" (if that concept can be applied to these games), and not just damage spammers, if you get my idea. Obviously is not planned as a MMORPG, so you wont have casual and unexpected encourtments during your adventures (apart from the safe areas, cities, etc) You can get the idea this way: Everytime you leave a city or town is like when you get into a mission in CoH (the scenary you and your time will be in is made only for you and your team)
Weak points (in my opinion): Character features (low posibility of customization, from the physics and the posture of the character to armors -sometimes they are boring-... and you might miss the possibility to choose race like dwarves or centaurs or something like that, or even what in CoH was the source of your power -mutant, science, etc...-), trading system and maybe even crafting. Yet again, crafting or even trading -which is almost inexistent in CoH, and a pain in the ass in GW lol- is more enjoyable than in CoH. Anyways, hopefully all of these will be solved soon in an update and in expansions.
By the way, the effects, the graphs, and all the looks of the game itself is better than in CoH (not only my opinion but also in my "old" graphic card´s /cry -dont get scared by that, it works in most of the cars, this is just a personal issue lol-)
Well, am probably forgeting about many things, but I think I gave you enough to read for the next few days lol. Sorry about the length... oh, and one more thing... did I forget to mention that you dont have to pay every month? (you may think it´s still a good money, but just also think about the not online games prices...) Hope this helps :)... otherwise I have been away from Ascalon for nothing lol
