Beta

Anyone have any clue when LOTRO is going beta or has it already? If not where can I get my grubby paws on a signup list? Any info is appreciated.

Update: LOTRO has not hit beta. I did some searching on it and found out that it should be hitting beta some time in the *near future (*hopefully)

The Dev's at Turbine will release a statement (probably pretty low key) just prior to the game's Beta release. Then those who are interested will have to sign up (most likely on the Turbine site) and then the Dev's will have to pick and choose from the list those whom they think would make the best testers for the game. Hopefully the Beta release will be soon. I'll report back when I find out.

I doubt that. They arent even done with the game. To finish it within one month would be near impossible. I think beta will come out in February or March.

Like Salmar said, the Beta seems to be far off. I'm thinking maybe (*hopefully) in the first quarter of 2006. Everything I have read seems to point to waiting at least this long. If the Beta were to come out in November, then it would be a very basic edition and I would hope that they (Turbine) have decided not to rush into anything just to get the game out and start making money. On the other hand, they have been fairly secretive about much of the project so who knows when and what is going to happen. Best thing is to not feed into the hype and be patient. It will arrive soon enough. If you are interested in seeing some of the things they have done so far click here. I know that some of this stuff is a little more than a month old, but it gets me excited to see some of the detailing that's going into the game.

A lot of speculation has gone into the when's and how's of Turbine's launch into Beta. Many believe, as do I, that since Turbine has scheduled the "scrapping" of AC2 around the first of next year, that the Beta should be arriving shortly after. This makes sense, because they obviously wouldn't just let the servers sit there doing nothing. Certainly gives the feel that these servers may be put to use toward the expected rush of clients to the LotRO game. I sincerelly doubt that Beta has started yet, but, as always, there is a possibility that I'm way off base. I just don't understand why Turbine would schedule the demise of AC2 without any forethought about what to put in it's place.... who knows, maybe they have something else up their sleeve that they've been keeping from the public. Seems they've grown very adept in that area.

Welcome to the LotRO Gameamp forums BuddaManX!!!

I know it's hard to believe that anyone could overlook a title as well known as AC, but, alas, not everyone has spent loads of time playing MMORPG's as they should. Every once in a while I run into a game that I haven't heard about, and it crushes my ego =)).

Now, I've never played AC or AC2, but I've heard that AC2 was kind of a bust... hence the reason for the rumor that Turbine will be scrapping it at the beginning of the year. Everyone hold your breath and cross your fingers... maybe LotRO Beta will emerge on the old AC2 servers

I dont understand this...

why are they making 4 races only? Should this game not be like Choose the orc's, goblins etc races? or the humans / elves / dwarves etc?

This really puzzles me, also after seeing the movies and reading the books, i do not think this game will match up to this. They are not really thinking about gameplay and more about graphics.. and they look pretty crappy :x look at the movie tbh and base your designs on that..

Just my opinion, and when will this be released btw? because if it is in early days yet then you should do some deeper thinking rather than getting it out onto the market asap.

The game is only based on the good peoples of middle earth.
And the graphics....they are the best!!!!! They are better than WOW, SWG, GW, CoH, CoV etc, they are the best graphics in any mmo ive seen yet.

Thanks for your input. The argument has been raging back and forth over the fact that orcs and such will not be playable in the game. Many proponents of PvP have argued that it would add a more exciting dimension to the game. I agree to an extent that this option would add greater enjoyment for people who like PvP environments, but I believe that they are trying to stay true to the lore by only allowing that the good races be played. This game is being made with Role Playing in mind and it's hard to roleplay when someone is "pwning nubs" in a zone that you're trying to complete a quest in... but that's just my opinion.

I don't believe that you've seen some of the latest video demos. I can't remember where I saw them but I will have to try to track them down again so that you can have some idea of what the game will look like from inside the environment. The still screenshots do not do the game justice. The engine Turbine is using is the next generation up from AC2, which was good in it's own right. I think it's a little too easy to just write everything off by looking at the screenshots.

The game should be going into beta sometime during the first quarter of next year. Hopefully the full version release will be only a couple of months following.

Hm in my opinion the guild wars graphics are better than what i ve seen from lotr online. I was planning to buy it still looks great. But i am happy with GW and cant afford monthly payement or maybe i can but i dont like that system. I hope the best for this game cause iam a big TOlkien fan myself

Yes, the graphics in Guild Wars are awesome. I remember my playing experience and, as a graphic artist, wondering at the complexity of a lot of the environments. I hope that the Dev's for LotRO can come up with something comparable when all is said and done.

Like you, I am a huge Tolkien fan, which is why I'm so excited about the game. Maybe by the time that LotRO comes out, you'll be ready for something new and will give more consideration to giving it a try. I feel that the more Tolkien fans we can get into the game, the more enjoyable it will be.

I play Guild Wars myself, and I can tell right away by the screenshots we have, that LotRO will have MUCH better graphics.

It is good to hear someone who loves GW as much as you do say that! I LOVE the graphics in GW! Matter of fact, I would probably still be playing, but (I really hate to say this) it got boring because all my friends left to play other games =(. I still have my account and every once in a while I log on to check out the environment. All games need to strive for at least that level. I actually went and tried to play the original EQ a couple of weeks ago, because it was my FIRST MMO... I was freaked out about how BAD the graphics really were for that game, but it was top of the heap back then. I had to scrub it off my hard drive because I have become spoiled with the level of graphics in the games that I have played since.

So... I said all that just to say this: If LotRO can create an environment as good as GW, then I will be extremely happy.... if LotRO is BETTER.... I'll be putting in a change of address.... forward all my mail to Bree!!!
