What new features should Guild Wars have?

Hi Guys,

I want this topic to be a very open ended discussion about what we would all like to see in Guild Wars now and in the future. We all have it in common that we love this game and I'm sure that we all have a lot of great ideas that would make it even better!

Just a few guidelines:

1. If you do suggest something, please give your reasoning. This is just so we know that you have put actual thought into it, and so we can all add to it as well. Dont just say: "We need ninja's..."

2. If you do feel the need to disagree with someones idea, tell us why. Is it not plausible? Are their other factors as to why it can't happen?

3. Please don't go off topic, this includes turning this post into a mud slinging match between other GFaqers. Remember, we have an active poster who just happens to be a Mod now. So keep it clean.

I thought I'd start off with a few a my own:

1. Energy Bars on Mobs:

They always seem to know just when to drain, interrupt and block us, and when we're low on energy. I hardly see this as far, so I think us being able to see how much energy they have will even the playing field a little.

2. Extra Skill Slots:

They will hopefully do this in an expansion. With me, 8 skill slots has always been enough, but many times I have thought that I wish I had, just one or two more skills! I think it would give players a lot more customisation, and a certain amount of adaptability. I.E An anti-tank mesmer who has two slots devoted to casters in case they get in trouble. It "might" also have the added benefit of encouraging people to bring their god forsaken res signets!

3. A way to serve/ally ourselves with the gods:

I put this one to Gaile Grey when she visited just before PvPX. She seemed to like the idea and said that anythings possible.. o_O It would be great if gaining faction with the other gods gained you benefits like faction with Balthazar. It would be even better if you could use your faction to utilize in game abilities. eg.

Say I was a follower of Melandru. I could use 300 faction of Melandru to track the exact whereabouts of a certain Boss or of a certain type of monster. OR If I was a follower of Dwayna, I could use my faction to ressurect a plot critical NPC during a mission, thereby saving the bonus. Or Grenth faction to ressurect an enemy or bring it over to your side for a limited amount of time.

4. A skill or spell to take aggro onto you:

You could make it either a monk skill or a warrior skill. When you use it, it can make target monster and all adjacent monsters aggro onto you for "xx" amount of time. That way you gain a certain amount of crowd control. It would make W/Mo's more useful, and if you have an idiot caster noob trying to tank things, you could save his behind by taking aggro from him.

5. Replacing lost party members with a henchman of the same level and primary class:

For whatever reason, parties sometimes find themselves down a player or two during the middle of a mission. It's not fair for them to have to restart all over again. So I think that the game should detect when a party has lost a player, and replace them with a hench of the same level and class. The same skills would probably be asking too much. That way, all is not neccessarily lost. This will also compliment the planned "party-vote-boot" function.

6. Henchies (especially the storyline characters i.e Devona, Cynn etc..) randomly talking when in parties.

I think it would add to the atmosphere of the game if the henchies had random sets of dialogue used when they are in parties. Think something along the lines of Gwen except less annoying. Like Reyna whining about why no one usually picks her in parties, and only do so to see what random dialogue she has. And they could use names too, wouldn't mind Devona admiring my fighting style etc...

7. Shifting Held Items to another target.

This is a small thing really. And they could even make it something that uses Lyssa's faction. The abilitie to shift an item you're holding from your hands to those of another person on your team. This seems innocuous, but it would be very usefull in PvE on those missions where you need to carry items to certain places.

Think about the only caster in your team having to carry the Tome of the Dead in the (Ranik?) Mission. They're taking too much aggro from the ghosts, they use the skill and BAM! The tank has the Tome and the ghosts chase after him. Or in that mission where you have to run those crystals to the three portals, you could have your runners throwing crystals between each other. This would be even more usefull in Tombs.

Anyway, sorry about the Wall Of Text. Those are some of my ideas and they give you and idea of what I'd like to see. What else do you guys think?

Peace

Well, I think that the game would require less strategy if you got more skill slots. I definatly would not be opposed to a skill slot just for a capture sig...just because I always leave it behind, get to the enemy and then am sicked to see I have forgotten it. Then i go back to town and forget it again -.-

Well maybe to also accomidate PVP or people with all the skills. you could have it a Res/Cap sig spot

Re: What new features should Guild Wars have?

I totally agree, extra skill slots is a must have.

Id also like a storage char put into the guild halls..
Its about time that it was sorted, they keep promising it..

And how about a trader aswell, so i can just goto guild hall to sort my stuff out without been pestered to join missions when im busy..lol

Id also like to be able to give the Henches basic commands, like wait, don't fecking attack. Protect me & other basic commands. As they are very lame, they kill when they shouldn't, other games allow some form of control, so why not guild wars.

Re: What new features should Guild Wars have?

this is all i want from GW to be the perfect MMORPG:

1. two more skill slots
2. two more character slots (6 instead of 4)
3. bigger storage
4. an auction house

Re: What new features should Guild Wars have?

i think anet should add more char slots. thats the one thing i would change. the other stuff, yet they would be cool additions, arent as necessary to me. i think the character slot number should be at the very least, the amount of classes there are total. that way every one could try out each class without having to make a PvP only and get yelled at and be called a noob because they don't know how to use that class.

Re: What new features should Guild Wars have?

Atleast 8 character slots, 6 for all professions and RPG mode, 1 for PVP, 1 for Farming? Or 8 for RPG, 8 for PVP, whatever.

Forced lowering of AL in the lower level arenas. (Consider it a ward against twinkers...)

A signet called Korean Signet, that randomly kills a Korean on the battlefield (If any.. HoH only..) Why? To give people an actual chance in HoH.

Ward Against Korea - Creates an AoE that prevents Koreans from spamming spirits for about 5000 years? Why? Because Korea is small without their precious little ghostly spirits....

2 Districts in every zone (One for Solo, party etc. one for universal, more people allowed in than the party limits...)

Signet of Justice - If you're in a fight with someone with say, 100% HP, and you have 50%, it'll lower their health by the ammount it would take to balance them (25% from that person is given to you to leave you both with 75%) Why? Because It'd be quite a nice skill....

Free Ale - It's fun to get drunk....

I would like if they had a Friend's List talk Channel thing.. so i dont have to one at a time ask if they want to PvP or to anything else

Re: What new features should Guild Wars have?

So far the idea i like the most is more character slots 6 seems like the perfect amount, that way u can create one of each class without having to delete one,

what i'd like to see is more variety in weapons and armor because u dont get that feeling of being unique even with 15k armor, and rare weapons dont seem to be so rare anymore, everyoen is running around with fellblades, dragon swords, storm bows, etc
and maybe they could bring the eternal sword back :-)

one more things is the ability to hold more gold/platinum, 100k just doesn't seem to be enough and makes trading/selling GODLY weapons sort of a hassle since they go for more then 100k,

Re: What new features should Guild Wars have?

OK pretty much everybody's been saying skills slots, char slots, auctions! So I guess that's a good place to start:

1. Skill slots would be helpful, but I think it would be strategically best to only add one at a time, and give people sufficient time to adjust before throwing another onto there, if at all.

2. I also like the idea of char slots, but I think 8 is overkill. I think 6 would be a good max. Once a character is done being PvE, you could just delete it. ANet gives you an hour to give a new character the same name before allowing it to others again, so take advantage of it! 6 would let you have 1 of each primary, and then you can transform them to PvP when you're ready.

3. Rather than this grand auction house that everybody seems to have their heart set on, maybe what you could do is have a Xunlai Agent kind of person who will hold a certain number of items for sale from you. Maybe have auction-style costs as an option, or for those economically challenged it could automatically set a price which will gain you more revenue than selling to a merchant/trader but less than the buyer would spend buying from a merchant/trader.

4. As far as other things, maybe you could list the name (and more info?) of a friend that you know has the game but you don't know his character's name. The game would automatically give you any hits for the info given, so you can find him easier. People could optionally turn this off for privacy.

Re: What new features should Guild Wars have?

I think you should be able to "Stake" Items in the PvP arenas. For example, if you and your friends make a team in team arenas, you can stake against another team. if you win, you get the other team's staked items. You wouldnt be able to stake customised items though...Just a thought. And, yes I did just steal that from RuneScape :D

Re: What new features should Guild Wars have?

I would like to see all player types have an ability to call on things to help them fight, like the necros have. Maybe a monk could have angels fight for them, a warrior could have swords that come up and fight for them. Rangers could have a way to either call more animals or make the one they have multiply, maybe in this case only the true animal could take damage, but not the copy. Mesmers could possibly have black cats fight for them. Elementalists could have orbs of the diffrent elements, but only their element of choice. For example if they use fire than the orbs would be fire, water users would have water orbs and so on.

I would very much like to see more slots for characters maybe like 6 for role playing, and 6 for PvP. This way there would be room for many characters.

I'd also like more room in the storage, I'd like it to have somewhere around 100 slots in it. That way there would be room for all your characters items. Also I'd like the characters to have more slots for items on them.

Maybe make the skill slots go to ten cause even two more skills in battle would be much better.

Sorry if this ran on too long. Plese tell me what you think of the idea of adding the ability for all characters to summon thins to fight for them.

Re: What new features should Guild Wars have?

the idea of more skills would take away the meaning of the game " skills " ( no pun intended ) but having a res or sig cap slot would take some hassle out of the game

but dont get me wrong more skills more be great but would also make the game less of a challenge, not by much but still less

i dont think that 8 would be overkill. after all, WoW lets you have like 50 chars, only 10 per server but still, thats plenty. and they'll need more slots when the expansion comes out cause im assuming they will make at least one new class, maybe 2. if that was the case, i would like if the char cap was at LEAST 8.

I agree with a lot of everyones ideas. I would like to see:

1. Auction Place
2. Bigger Storage Possibly Some Sort Of Guild Hall Storage
3. Definitley a great variety of items
4. Maybe one or two more classes... More skills

Awesome, we seem to have a lot of well thought out ideas. What do you guys think of ideas number 3,4,5,6 and 7?

Could they work or not? Would they be useful? Anything else you can add to them?

Re: What new features should Guild Wars have?

I think most of the ideas suggested have been great, but I'm not gonna list them all again cause that takes too long. What I would like to add is two things:

1. More variety of weapons and armour....something that you can only find on a mega hard specific boss or something like that. Just so that when you say I'm weilding whatever people are like wow cool :P...also then vry1 doesnt look the same.

2. It may seem menial but I think the first thing before anything else should be that RANGERS NEED QUIVERS!!! They materialise their arrows out of thin air! Maybe quivers could also be some xtra piece of ranger costume..maybe increase attack speed or sumthin. And also it would look COOL!

Re: What new features should Guild Wars have?

Also, second thought, I think the Rangers pets should be expanded on. Maybe have more choices for pets, rather than just one in each area.
Also having pet armour would be really cool, not only would it look asthetically pleasing, but it would also keep your pet alive for that bit longer.
Finally I also think that you should be able to see your petss XP, to see when they will level up, rather than having to try and work out when they level up relative to your character.

There is already a necro elite skill that works in a similar way. Grenths' Balance i think its called.

Re: What new features should Guild Wars have?

1. Energy Bars on Mobs:

Good idea for RPG. Rather not for PvP etc. In the end it makes more sense that you don't know what energy the other has (on the other hand it would be cool to see whenever a caster is exhousted for example). Its also more fun as you have to use a litle your instinct for when using skills against other players.

2. Extra Skill Slots:

Similar to what others have said, I agree with that the skills you know can not be infinte. Of course you can know more than 8, but lets say that you can know max 9, and of those max 2 of your secondary for example, just to state that you actually focus on your primary prof. I also agrre with thar you should have some slots for signets only, which in the end aren't "skill", but more like spells you read and don't have to "memorize or learn".

3. A way to serve/ally ourselves with the gods:

This is a nice idea and would give the game a nice religious touch. The problem in this game, is that I don't know up to where you can take profit out of this idea. You could do certain missions to gain favour. And you could gain favour of your prof only. The favour of gods should rather work like an enchantment on your char, like more adrenaline, 2 pets, better energy regen...

4. A skill or spell to take aggro onto you:

Why not. Similar to martyr skills of monk. Like, for 10sec averyone hits you instead of your party members.

5. Replacing lost party members with a henchman of the same level and primary class:

I see the point, but it is better in my opinion to educate players in beeing more responsible. Not joining a party and suddenly they have to go to have dinner. Come on, as if you didn't know before that you had dinner!

6. Henchies (especially the storyline characters i.e Devona, Cynn etc..) randomly talking when in parties.

Nice idea. Like it.

7. Shifting Held Items to another target.

For some reason I don't like the idea. Sorry, can't figure out why. Sounds much like football playing, like Games Workshop Bloodbowl. :D

What other people have said about customizing your char is true. In the end people will get all those rare items, because they sell them and in the end its only a question of how much money you have (however you get it) and not about how good you are discovering the map or how good player you are working in team to go through UW. We need more stuff, even useless stuff. Like rings, bracelets, diadems, collars, things for the hair, stuff to add to your armour. However this could result utopic.

Since I think this will prevent most noobs from selling this trash, I think they should add a brothel so all the female characters won't pollute my screen with "SELLING BJ, 100G A POP!" or "WILL STRIP FOR CASH!"
Oh and Pirate, we have something for that, it's called Guild Chat.

No pirate means like a message all friends?DOH! And i think they should have a armory in your guild hall like one dude said on a forum so you could donate weapons you dont use and stuff like that. and this is a wacky idea but if u have a guild hall and do GvG i think at a certain Guild Rank your guild can wear like a custome made armor??? that was random but i want to see wat you guys will say!

Re: What new features should Guild Wars have?

I definitely agree there should be higher storage capacity. If nothing else maybe they could make bags that you could drop into the storage slots which would in turn hold more items. Also, and maybe this is just me, but it sure would be nice if they fixed it to where my Ranger's pet did not hinder his movement during melee. I cannot count the number of times where I have killed one monster, targeted the next and attacked, yet not moved due to my pet being in my way. Perhaps they can make it so you can pass through your pet if nothing else.

Re: What new features should Guild Wars have?

My guild has a server to be able to talk to one and other, I think that the game should have something like this, maybe not just for people in your guild but they could make it so you can talk to any one in your group. So that when you go out on missions or quests you don't have to type in everything. They could make it a team speak program and have run right through the game.

Also I think there should be a way to play music in the game, and they can make it so that if one person in a group is playing music everyone on that team can hear it.

a good concept, the storage is a great idea. But a Guild Vault will be more appropriate where the leader and officers would use for the invitations. example: if i wanted to invite someone, i would send the invitation and instead of wasting my money, it would be deducted from the vault.

Also, the armor customization would be great. quivers on rangers, plus we could add owr own touch to the armor, like adding props to the armor so it will look cooler. But this will be mostly for battle, because ANet said something about town clothes.

Re: What new features should Guild Wars have?

1 - I wouldn't add more skill slots. For what I felt while playing all of my chars i always needed ONE more slot, but realized that 8 is the best way to make sure your character got a weakness your allies should cover and your enemies should exploit. More skills will make people more willing to be self-sufficient, not to speak about the whole farming thing. Speaking like a politician: 2 more skills will be to steps backwards from Guild Wars own personality :P Although, there is something about the charm pet skill and the heal pet skill that i dont find fair. I agree with Lani when she said that charm spell should at least be also used as res for the pet (and leave healing for the other skill)

2 - Only two new professions for a whole new game? In that case I would like to see one new attribute for each profession from the first chapter. That is, for instance, Theurgism for elementarists so they can cast a golem or an elemental companion, tho i am not sure how it would have to be since I wouldn't like to see something too similar to ranger's pets or necro's minions.... or maybe it should be part of a whole new profession... but, well, there was the idea. Maybe Metamorphosis for necros: Turn yourself into an "evilish" creature. Maybe you would have to maintain your condition as if it was an monk enchantment spell (-1 energy regen) and if you energy drops to 0 you turn back to your human form but unable to use your armor for some time...

3 - For some reason I like the idea of the Xunlai agents more than the auction house, tho i would be happy with ANY of them.

4 - Something more... different for PvP. Guild battles, Arenas, HoH, turn to be too repetitive and somehow lacks of something. In some other post I talked about the idea of some battlefield arenas, some kind of Realm vs Realm. There would be a certain maximum of players but should be a bigger one so it can be played by, at least, 2 teams for each side. In some others maybe you could just fight for your realm but on your own (basically the fight is the same, but you won't have a team so wont know how your allies are or how many left, etc, unless you click on them, tho you ll be fighting on their side). The goal would be to conquest/defend a castle, territory, hall.....

5 - Skills with new challenges on their own. Ok, sounds... strange but this is an example: "Zombie Raising"/"Ghost Bringer" Necros could resurrect an ally as a zombie or as a ghost. The dead player would have control of that zombie or ghost. If it's a zombie, maybe his only skills will be to bite and to explode (if he explodes he would poison the nearbye enemies, if bites he would provoke... i dunno energy degen and if the player bitten reaches 0 becomes a zombie at service of the necro -and played as a npc-) The ghost only mission would be to take over an enemies body (if he does, he will play with the victims character but with a random 4 skills selection from ALL of the victims skills, and will have life degeneration -like any minion-, the player possessed will ocupy the corpse of the player who became a ghosts in the first place -but, obviously dead-) Maybe the zombie should be 50% slower or something like that. The reason I didnt put this one on the thread of "new skills we would like" it's simply because, somehow it would add something new to the gameplay.

6 - New KINDS of skills (condition, hex, enchanment.......) and any new stat (i mean appart from health and energy... for instance "soul" - that could be related with the zombie/ghost thing... excuses for sould dmg and healing? necros and monks seem obvious... mesmers through "charisma" or "madness" skills, rangers through songs -bards-, warriors through "fear/encourage", eles through... dunno... glasses of water/whiskey with ice?)

7 - A more "complicated" and diverse crafting system (don't ask, i don't get pay for it :P )

8 - New looks, and with that i mean also the standing postures/posses of the chars: Why do all male necros have to look that.... bowed or all the warriors look so gymnastic and altive, or all the mesmers so posh etc, etc.... You see? The lesser the difference between characters of the same profession, the higher the topics and racism in our peaceful Ascalon :P . Anything that takes away the feeling of living the attack of the clones (after all, a game with a massive amount of players deserve a wider range of customization for the characters).

9 - I dont like the idea of the aggro skill. How would it work in PvP? Your char would go and attack the aggroer instead of the one you were targeting, right? mmmh... dunno, would make PvE too much easier. I remember playing CoH and one of the types of characters had a skill to taunt and take the aggro on you and... well... it just makes the gameplay less exciting and more mechanical, to be honest (IMO). Leading a foe through a circuit of traps until he dies would be too easy. If there HAS to be an aggro skill, IMO it should be at a very high cost.

Anyway, long enough and late enough. I know some of this things would sound too much for some of you but... k, the idea is to suggest ways to make the game better, right? So here are some rough ideal and sorry for the length and hope i didnt get out of the question.... so off to bed i go zzzzzzzz.

PS: 10 - More interactive enviroment. For instance be able to push rocks from top of hill and so on (like catapults, or boiling water big pots... or those... cant remember the name in english you use to knock down gates)[/B]

Re: What new features should Guild Wars have?

I would like to be able to use more than one elite skill. And have the runes work on your second profession.

I would also like to have Elfs added as a character with their magic and speical armor and abilities.

Dreaming like this is fun.
