i dont think there is any disernable use. however i didn't really look into it. i got tired of looking at the thing and finally just sold it lol

This is just a quick guess, but maybe it's got to do with a part of those quests where people all around the world are looking to "give you one thing, if you'll give them another thing" I.E. "Ill give you this elven ale if you can find something that will entertain my child" ...so says the elf in the Greilyn falls, possibly the chalice starts the quest...?

no that is part of Lelani Sorrow quest the golden Chalice is not included in that

I don't know if any of you remember the secret Chicken Level in the MP adventure from the first Dungeon Siege, where you had to have that book, the Fury's Eye (again, this was worth 1000GP and had everyone chatting on the forums asking "What's this for???") and the dagger you start with at the beginning of the game all together to access a secret area (only available in MP).
I wonder if the Golden Chalice is an item from another one of those.

I don't think it's to unlock an easteregg like that since the mystrious set is the one that unlocks the easteregg in DSII.
