Is it just me, or does it seem people are afraid to lose lately. After some recent ladder experiences of late I feel the need to spew my venom on this subject.
Everybody knows some teams will dominate a ladder. This is always the case. When a ladder begins one team will dominate it, and by the end another may… but at any given point there will always be those few power teams that just dominate everybody.
What bothers me is the amount of forfeits out there right now. People that get challenged by the higher team, and just forfeit the match. Granted I see the logic in terms of beating up lesser teams to buffer a record, but in reality the only team you are hurting by forfeiting is your own. There is a reason you are losing to that uber team, there is something they do, or something they know that you have yet to grasp. The best way to fix this and catch up, isn’t to run from them, but to just accept the fact, get in there and try to do something about it. Why waste time trying to figure it out on your own, when you can just take the pummeling, go back to the drawing board and figure out what you did and why?
The other item I would take issue with is refusal to play any but the top players. If you don’t scrim the lesser players they won’t get better. I know we all have ways of working the new members of the team into the fold, I just personally took issue with this recently. If the team has a massive roster, and they only need 6, have more than that available, but won’t play unless at set 6 play… WTF is with that. I know for me, I like playing with those on my team, I will take a game now working with a newer player, than having to wait days for a vet to hop in. It also makes people feel like they are part of team, that they are wanted and are respected. Granted I understand the logic if it’s for an important match… but it seems to be applied universally
But I guess this could also be applied to pubs as well. People running around alias because; god forbid somebody get a screen shot of them getting spanked. And I guess this runs in tandem with the whole; I am loosing let me bounce out before the end of the match. Or even worse; let me swap to the winning teams and make things more disjointed. As for me I don’t understand the logic in it. First off who the hell cares about pub results, last I checked it’s your matches that count. Secondly it hurts the community at large by taking such actions. Lastly does it really matter if joe noob schooled you? Those that know who you are respect you for what you can do, and just maybe joe noob is a good player that might want to play in a ladder, and just maybe he might try it.
As for my part I am guilty to. I have smashed keyboards, cussed yelled, and been a total ass at times, we all can be. Also I am probably to thick headed to have realized, had this attitude not infected the ladders we are on as of late… and therefore screwed up my little part of this community. So I guess all I can do is put my money where my mouth is and do what I bitch about.

This kind of behaviour actually makes me laugh - when someone starts cursing every time they get killed, I usually end up laughing at them. It's not nice, but they aren't being nice either. The forfeits? that is lame. Learning to play better is more important than keeping a good win/loss ratio.

Ive left a couple of times from a match, and usualy for these reasons.
Generly when your in a match, lets say its a 5 player server, the top 2 players are dominateing, the bottom 2 are total Newbs. Now I enter the match and find myself totaly Owening the newbies and can even get a shot off on the 2 others, getting flaked from above, shocked before I know its comeing, watch as the Pro dodges around a corner and before hes a foot past the wall my head is gibbed.
In that scenario its a lose lose situation
1. its no fun to try to have fun with the newbs while getting shot in the back by a pro.
2. If you dead before you can even flinch Im not learning anything, hes got godly aim and theres no tactics or learning that will help that there is no reason to stick around in the match.

hrm yea that's another topic that might warrant another article (i got dibs! =P )
many people think that simply playing against better players automatically helps you improve, and that you only improve by playing people better than you...
but while i'd certainly recommend playing against and with the best players possible, you can learn just as much by playing with players closer to your skill level, or even alone, in many cases...
i think you'll be hard pressed to find a top player who hasn't just run around maps alone shooting shock combos around to work on their timing and movement...

I agree with u guyz, people who forfeit matches because they are gonna lose SHOULD stay and play, they might learn something.
