RE: Problems?

The biggest problem I've seen, and have, is LAG and crashing (reboot of system) along with some graphic artifacts.

There are a number of threads on the DDO boards about these problems and the finger is being pointed at the Video Card. Seems DDO is working the cards up into very high temps which is causing the problems. (The type of cards run from low end to top of the line).

These same folks are listing games they are currently playing with max graphics settings/options and do not experience the same heat problem.

Yes they did the normal thing when this happens in a game, i.e. check/new drivers, reduce resolution, etc etc.

To date, no Dev has responded.

RE: Problems?

I've checked all over the official site for the answer, and it seems there really have been no Dev' replies to this problem...

I'm not sure how to fix it, but you are not the only person having this problem. This is a post on the official beta forum that has many people saying they are having problems, but there hasn't been a response about how to fix it yet.

RE: Problems?

How's it going? Before I get to the tears part of this, I would just like to comment on how impressive and informative all of the work ya'll are doing here is.....now for the crying. I've been trying to install the preorder version for four days now and can't seem to get any closer to being done. It mentions using an applicator to download with and I don't understand how to. For one, I'm on dail up, and I know that's not a big help. I'm looking at 180 hrs at the beginning of each time I've restarted. After I get about 5Mb into it, and need to stop/restart the download, it tells me I have corrupt files and have to start all over. Can ya'll help me out here? Thanks.

1st off welcome to the site, digitdd0405!!!

Now on to your problem. I'm really sorry to hear that you are on a dial up. That will make it take quite some time.

Have you tried this yet?

Welcome to the site!
something like getbot might be of use to you. I haven't used it myself but you should be able to pause and resume downloads with it... there might be some more if that doesn't work for you.

RE: Problems?

You could try to pickup a preorder box from EB Game or Gamestop or your other local game store. Then you could install it from the CD. Then when it runs the updates, it downloads it one file at a time and if you need to quit in the middle or it gets interrupted, it just picks up where it left off.

RE: Problems?

This is the preorder box, with dvd. I went in and aquired a faster download manager. It appears to be working fine so far, allowing me to pause and resume when needed, and I haven't gotten anymore corrupt files. Thanks for the advice, now I only have 2 more days of download time with my dail up connection!

But just think, you will only have to wait a short while for a small patch to download once the game launches *grin* isn't that a good thing?

RE: Problems? - Voice Chat

Hello, my first post on this forum so I hope I've done this right.

I'm having a problem with the Voice Chat. I'm using an integrated headset with mic that connect via a USB port. When not playing DDO, I can hear sound find through the earphones and the mic works fine too (did the 'Record' test no problem). When I start up the game I have sound for about 3 seconds and then it cuts out. The Voice part has not worked at all.

I have gone into the settings and yes the voice chat is enabled. I have tried using the mic test and the odd time it seems to work for about 3 seconds then cuts out. There are other setting on the tab that I have never seen mentioned in the manuals or forums. I think these are playback etc settins, you can switch between hardware and software ??? There are also other settings. I have tried every combination of settings and I always get the same thing which is as soon as I change a setting everything seems to work fine for 3 seconds and then stops ... doesn't seem to matter what the settings are, the same thing always happens.

I can hear other people speaking fine through my speakers when I do not have the headphones plugged in as well as the standard game sounds.

Thanks

RE: Problems?

Welcome to the site Cap_Man:

There is a document on this site with a voice chat check list:

LINK:

http://dndonline.gameamp.com/guide/viewGuide/851.php

I followed those instructions and everything started working correctly.

I may "suggest" that you also use a "push to talk" key vice voice activated.

Try that out and lets us know the results.

RE: Problems?

Doh! My 10 day Beta subscription just expired so I never got a chance to try again.

Anyway, I had looked at the doc you mentioned and there are other voice/audio related settings than is mentioned in the doc. Also, the sound had stopped working as well which is what I thought was the really odd part.

I was wondering if it had something to do with the headset connecting to the pc via a usb port instead of the mic and headset jacks?

Anyone else connected like this?

I used a headset connected to jacks not a usb port, but I don't know why that would effect it.

I do know that when people didn't have the chat set on "push to talk" there were a lot of problems b/c their mic was just always on. The reason a lot of people miss this option is because it isn't under Audio. It is in your keymaping section.

RE: Problems?

I got my headset working! Apparently the USB headset was trying to draw more power than my laptop had when the game was running. To solve this I have to plug the headset into a USB Hub with it’s own power supply and then everything works fine.

Of course once I got it all working I end up joining a party where no one else had it …lol. On the weekend it seemed I was one of the few who didn’t have it, go figure.

Thanks for your help

Wow how did you figure that out? It never would have crossed my mind that that could be a problem.

Perseverance. Found a cryptic reference to USB power supplies and thought I would try the Hub thing. Sometimes you just get lucky.

1st off welcome to the site! Sorry it is because you are having problems with the game.

I have a few suggestions that you can try, and hopefully one of them will get it working.

The min system requirements are:
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 1.6 GHz or compatible (must support SSE)

Video Card:GeForce 2, GeForce 4 MX or Radeon VE

RAM: 512 MB or more

Disk Space: 3GB

DirectX: DX9c+ (which the game will update for you)

OS: Windows XP Home and Pro

Make sure you have .NET framework 1.1 Service Pack 1.NET framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 installed.

You may also want to make sure none of your video cards are not on
this list.

And maybe someone else here can give you some more suggestions.

RE: Problems?

Thing is if hes getting to the loading screen his comp can run it, but believe me it's not going to run fast. What you may be experiancing is inital lag from you cpu. I've been running on almost those exact same specs just my video card was a radeon 9600, I left the settings as they were but turned detail to very low.

I ran fine but ran slowly in conjested areas aka taverns or when we were swarmed by many mobs.

The mistakes of today, are the scares of tomorrow.

Yeah and turning on the multipass might just be putting your video card over the edge if it is being taxed already.

RE: Problems?

Hey thanx for the encouragement guys, i have actually tried it with graphics turned all the way down, I have been having tech support walk me through various steps, however
all of them have led me to that same system lock up halfway through loading up the game world. I going to talk more with tech support when i have the time.

Jeni- thnx for the info. That link you suggested i look for my graphics card on, only has networkcards listed on it?
did you accidently send me the wrong link?

Doh! No I typed graphics card rather than network card. Sorry about that.

But I'm glad to hear that tech support is making an effort to help you. That gives me great hope.
