Hello, Raider here again. Just wondering what type of skills you might want to see in future updates/expansion(if there is one)
What class is skill for
Give name of skill
Give Description of skill
Energy costs
The negatives( ie. Exaustion caused by MS(meteor shower))
Remember we keep this up and they might listen... who knows.

Aren't you afraid this will turn out to be a thread full of people's ideas for an unbalancing Uber-skill for their preferred class?
Anyway, as things stand now, I'd like one minor change to the existing skills, make Charm animal the skill that raises Pets and leave Comfort Animal as a Pet specific healing skills (maybe slightly better 'n regular healing so it won't be discarded en masse)
As for new stuff...
More variety in melee weapons with matching skillsets would be nice.
Something like a two-handed sword or axe category, slow like the Hammer, with slightly less damage and some skills for it.
Disembowel would have a nice ring to it for a two-handed axe skill I think.
One-handed hammers, or maces. Somewhere in between sword & axe, but with blunt damage instead of cutting. SOme skills from Hammer mastery might apply, an attack that dazes for example, but no knockdown yet I think.
Crossbows as a ranged weapon, heavier damge than bows, and slower. Maybe even prone to jam?
Staves as a melee weapon, with defensive stances to go with it.
Oh dear, this is more equipment based than skills is it? And I'm not getting very specific as to stats and such. Sorry it's late. Maybe it'll serve as inspriation if nothing else.
Edit: Darn, left out a word. I want preview!

Heres one i thought of(two versions of it):
Mesmer Skill
Mask of Illusion (Illusion magic)(Enchantment)
For 3-10 seconds conjure an illusion of target ally. All melee dmg given to target ally will be redirected to the illusion.
10 Energy
Activation Time: 1 second
Regeneration Time: 25 seconds
Explanation: It wont be physical entity, like ranger spirits, but it will just be shown by a special aura.
Mask Of Illusion (Illusion magic)(Stance)
For 5-8 Seconds you do not take damage from melee attacks. You have -40 armor against other attacks.
10 Energy
Activation Time: Immediate
Regeneration Time: 20 seconds
Everything's up for change though.

Hey SuperSheep. You're better at this than I am.
I'd phrase the first one as "all damage from melee attacks" or specify which type of damage, e.g. physical damage. Otherwise it sounds intruiging.
Makes me think of some kind of aggro-dummy spell. Something that casts a seeming of you at a certain distance (preferably in aggro rnage of a mob who will attempt to kill it while you sneak past) Maybe not practical in PvP and maybe not combat oriented enough for NC, but I'd like it :-)
I first thought that the second one was just a way to slide Inspiration magic-like effects into another Attribute (Illusion magic) as it's similar to Physical Resistance, but then I noticed the major difference in time frame, so that makes it ok.
You're also circumventing it being an uber-stance by making it physical damage only. That way it doesn't turn into Defensive stance (Tactics) on steroids.
Very well thought out :-)

One I can think of that would be interesting is...
Spike of Apathy (Illusion magic)(Enchantment)
Enchant target ally for 5-20 seconds. Each melee attack causes their target foe to loose 1-4 energy.
15 Energy
Activation Time: 2 second
Regeneration Time: 10 seconds
Just another twist on Illusionary Weapon. Instead of doing damage, it drains the energy out of the monster per swing of the enchanted. Necromancers can add extra damage to a warrior, why not allow mesmers allow extra energy denial this way?
______
Energy Transfer (Inspiration magic)(Hex) (Elite)
Target hexed foe has 1-3 energy degeneration for 10-20 seconds, which you gain as energy regeneration.
5 Energy
Activation Time: 3 seconds
Regeneration Time: 45 seconds
Just an elite version of the near useless Ether Lord.
_____
Stumbling (Domination magic)(Hex)
Target hexed foe for 5-15 seconds recieves 30-85 damage if they move and is knocked down.
10 Energy
Activation Time: 2 seconds
Regeneration time: 30 seconds
Not to sure on this one really, just trying to add something to Domination line where I can't think much of.

"Aren't you afraid this will turn out to be a thread full of people's ideas for an unbalancing Uber-skill for their preferred class?"
No I am not really worried about that, this forum is made for people to extend their imaginations. The cheaper the skill gets the less chance it has on getting in the game, but that should not stop you from comming up with some sort of skill that would be interesting.

Personally I think the Regen time should be increased to 30-40 seconds, other then that I like that skill.
I look forward to seeing some other ideas for skills. I am like lani, no good at creating skills, but really enjoy reading the skills other people have in mind. And remember, who knows, the Staff of Guild Wars might listen... you never know.

Nice wings. i would just add to spike of apathy that for each successful melee hit, target loses 1-4 energy. Otherwise imagine IW's running around doing 42 dmg a hit and stealing 4 energy at the same time. Not pretty (even though im a mesmer and that would be sweet). But still a good skill, and yea it does seem that mesmers area self oriented class, they have no spells that aid ally's. Warriors have shouts, necros have curses/wells, monks what do they do again? :P yea so that would be a good addition.

Mesmer's do seem to be the most selfish profession out there :-) The only way I've found to be supportive with a Mesmer is to use it to support me while my other Profession's skills support the others.
Maybe that's why Mesmers all look like snobbish aristocrats :-)
It might be an interesting addition to have a Mesmer Attribute/skill-set that's more like the D&D Bard class. Team/area buffs from songs, with sound effects and all ofcourse. Ooh, just imagine a bardic buff-song with the Monthy Python "Brave Sir Robin" song attached to it :-)
Maybe a Bard Profession in itself would be nice. But I've been reading Michelle West lately, so I'm biassed atm.

Perhaps a skill that would directly manipulate the environment.
Monk
Hand of the gods (Protection)
For 3-8 seconds create an impassable trench in front of the caster.
25 Energy
Activation Time: 2 second
Regeneration Time: 70 seconds
This would be most benefical at the beginning of a battle to give the ranged players a chance to ping each other with spells or arrows.
--or--
Breath of the gods (protection)
For 3-8 seconds cause a mist to decend which greatly effects visiblilty.
25 Energy
Activation Time: 2 second
Regeneration Time: 70 seconds
This would effect all players and may cause a little confusion on the battlefield; however, it would give a losing team the chance to regen a little life or energy.

@blackphoenix
That first skill, Hand of God, is rather strange, though interesting. A wall of "energy" would probably be prefered, which could be targeted and killed similar to a spirit. First problem would be the limit length wise the wall would be, meaning people could still run around it. The second problem would be the multitude of 8 monk or /monk teams popping up because they can just keep a permenant wall between them and an enemy (Say in UW) returning to the Spirit Wall stratagies which ANet seems to dislike to begin with.
The second skill sounds hard to implement in the AI, and is kind of useless due to Auto-targetting to begin with. Though the guess would be to hide casters casting spells mostly. If it creates a mist, it belongs in an elementalist's skills under Water magic, rather then with a monk.
@Supersheep
You are right, that would be too powerful. With each successful melee attack needs to be added to my "Spike of Apathy" idead. Both to prevent the Illusionary Weapon Mesmer from being to powerful, though what about Rangers? Maybe it should be physical attack to include them as well, but I'm not sure if there would be a un-intended boost from doing that.
@Raider101
The short casting time counteracts the high energy cost (15 energy). This prevents Mesmers from being able to hold onto repeated casting of "Spike of Apathy" and keep up with energy management from other castings (Such as Backfire). The 10 second recast insures only 2 enchantments from a single Mesmer can be up at one time. Only a Elementalist/Mesmer could be able to not worry about the energy, but Illusion doesn't seem to be used to often by an Elementalist to begin with.
_____________
Now for a new idea with two versions.
Volatile Mind (Illusion)(Hex)[E]
For 5-15 seconds, hexed player has a 10-50% chance that any offensive spell they may cast targets themselves. This spell causes Exhaustion.
Energy 25
Activation Time: 3 seconds
Regeneration Time: 30 seconds
____________________
Volatile Body (Illusion)(Hex)[E]
For 10-25 seconds, hexed player has a 10-50% chance that whenever they attack, they may strike themselves rather then their target. This spell causes Exhaustion
Energy 25
Activation Time: 3 seconds
Regeneration Time: 45 seconds
In Volatile Body, its just standard attacks or attack skills, not spells.
What do you think?

I think the Breath of the gods was meant to work similar to "blind". It causes some % chance that any attack will miss, not that you can not target them.
| QUOTE |
Mask of Illusion (Illusion magic)(Enchantment)
For 3-10 seconds conjure an illusion of target ally. All melee dmg given to target ally will be redirected to the illusion.
10 Energy
Activation Time: 1 second
Regeneration Time: 25 seconds
Explanation: It wont be physical entity, like ranger spirits, but it will just be shown by a special aura. |
This has spurred a thought in my mind, thanks for the inspiration.
Class: Mesmer Skill
Name: Cannon Fodder
For (8 seconds, + 3 seconds per point in ILL) a spirit, like that of the rangers will appear. It causes aggro on any enemy in range. This will be the first creature that is targeted by the enemy.
Energy Cost: 15
Activation Time: 5 sec
Regeneration Time: 60 sec
An alternative, would be that it is added to your group. Then, defenive spells could be cast upon it. This should raise the cost to 25 and add exhaustion.
The idea of the spell is three fold.
1) Draw the primary spells of the enemy, like the meteor spell by the hydras.
2) Group enemies for AOE spells.
3) Sucker the enemy while you make a run to get past them.

This may be a little overpowered, but it sprang to mind
Celestial Weapon
While you maintain this enchantment each melee attack has 100% armour penatration. Each time you strike with this weapon you take 150%-75% of the damage you deal. If your health drops below 50% celestial weapon ends.
Energy: 20 -1 regen
Casting Time: 3 seconds
Attibute: Smiting Prayers
Problems i can see:
Its very W/Mo specific.
P-Bond would make a person with this almost invincible.
Edgwalkers is coming.

Necromancer
Satanic Prayers (Blood Magic)
10 Energy, 7 secs rechage time, 2 secs casting time.
Sacrifice 10% max health. Target other ally gains health regeneration of 2-8 for 10 seconds. After 10 seconds, the caster is healed for 50-170 health.

Mesmer
Illusion Magic:
Illusion of Ale. Hex Spell:Energy: 10 Casting Time: 1 second Recharge Time:10
For 5-20 seconds target foe feels the effects of ale and has 20-50% chance to miss atacks.
Not really too strong, but it would be fun to make everyone drunk. Also, the effect of the ale could get stronger with each level of illusion, example; Illusion magic 1 would look like 1 ale, whereas 16 illusion would feel like 10 ale or something. I don't know the varying degrees of ale so i don't know how strong i could make it.

Death Wish
For 20-39 Seconds gain +2 to Death magic.
When Death wish ends you loose 33% health.
Energy 10
casting 2
recharge 45
Similar to Awaken the Blood but for Death magic.

@MustelaNigripes
Cannon Fodder? Truthfully it sounds like one of the many skills ANet is seems to be specifically avoiding, aggro control skills. Warriors don't even have a way to attract enemy attention to act as tanks better.
@Balthamos
Celestial Weapon, I have mixed reactions about. While seeming too powerful at first, its own draw back of of taking damage 150%-75% of the amount dealt is iffy. If you said LOOSING 150%-75% the amount of dmg dealt, then I doubt anyone would use it due to Protective Spirit not working against it. Other wise it would be too easily taken advantage of. The way you have it worded now is too powerful, despite its drawback. Though with its style, maybe Martyr's Offense would work better.
Of course, I can't help but imagine a Warrior enchanted with this, by a fellow Monk, performing Final Thrust. If it was Loosing health, therefore bypassing P-Bond, I can see the poor monk falling over dead.
@Zadok_Hellbringer
Satanic Prayers seems off compared to any other Blood Magic spell. The amount of health lost over the amount gained at the end of the spell is drastically uneven. Blood Renewal costs 33% of your hp to returning 40-160 hp. If your health was 500(meaning no -hp runes) this would even out meaning roughly no loss of hp after the spell is finished.
Two things needs to be done to balance this, in my opinion. One would be to either make the life lost to 33% or to make the life gained ~15-50. This would make the sacrificing costs vs. hp gain at the end equivalent, though necromancer buffs for others generally don't have the hp gain back in them. The life gained may have to drop completely. The other thing is the amount of hp regened. Either this is an Elite spell or the max/min hp regen needs to be lowered.
@silverstein
Illusion of Ale. This would end up a rather interesting PvP only skill. Though it would be very annoying. I don't see much use if it was to be used in PvE though, so maybe a first in stricly PvP skills? If PvP only, I'd suggest leaving the miss rate strictly only 25%, and maybe, just maybe, give a 5% increased critical(Those drunks can give a mean fight!). Shorter lasting time might be needed as well. I would enjoy to see a skill similar to this in PvP.
@Aku
I can't find much fault on Death Wish. Though since I don't know much about death magic I can't see how this compares too well with Awaken Blood. I'll leave it to someone else to see how it compares.
@Anyone/Everyone/People claiming to be Noone
If you are going to post a skill, how about writing a response to someone elses past skills as well? That way this doesn't become a post for random skills with no responses. Discussions on how to keep these skills balanced can be interesting, and gives appreciation to what the GuildWars crew is trying to do themselves.
Besides, the Volatile skills I mentioned earlier seems to have something off about them. I wouldn't mind hearing from the people who would be on the receiving side think about this. Fairly, I mind you, not simply yelling that skill is too powerful and it would be to "pwning" to have that casted on you. Backfire is a skill that cripples most casting during its time, yet is implemented. Though reasons why, and how to make the skill fairer(ie such as shorter casting time, longer recharge, higher cost, ect.) would be nice to hear since most of us coming up with these skills are people wanting to cast this skill at someone, rather then be on the recieving side.

I completely agree with what you are saying, but keep in mind this is where people post their imagenary skills, just to see how others would think of it. Yes if you want the skill to ever possibly go onto the game its gotta be like you said, fair, and make shure you see both sides, the caster and the reciever.

@Wings: loving both skills man (volatile). yea, the energy cost balences it out quite a bit, along with a long cast time. However i do think the time frame is a bit long. a standard 10 sec (liek backfire) would seem more balenced to me. But otherwise a sweet skill to have. Also, imo could use a little more mesmerish name (volatile is necro-esque) lol up to you though great skill.
@silverstein: lol i think that would be too overpowered of a skill. You'll soon see "GLF Echo Boozer for dance party".

Hmmz.. I got one.. (gonna be my first post, so dont blame me if it suxx :P)
What about a this one:
Double Wield (warrior, strength)
-20 Armor
While double wielding you'll inflict the damage both weapons combined do. ie: 2 max dmg swords would do 30 - 44 dmg.
Double wield takes a full slot all the time, just like Charm animal does and because you're double wielding you'll lose the extra armor a shield gives you. Added to that to balance the damage, the extra armor penalty.

eh, i guess. i been seeing alot of post on various forums about how ppl wish they could double wield. personally, im not too fond of it. people get all excited about doing "double dmg". however, ur not taking in to consderation the other skills that are already out there that would make the skill almost invincible.
let say u walk into comp arena pretty confident in your warrior abilities, and u run straight into a mes who your about to tear apart with your 2 swords. then the mes pulls out 2 swords and starts doin 88 dmg a hit with illusionary weaponry. not fun for you. lots of other skills will have simlar and very cheap effects.
lol sry to be so harsh on your first post, but it seems like this was a culmination of seeing many similar threads about duel wielding. sry :( and welcome :)

I too am one that would love to be able to dual wield swords and such. I don't claim to be any kind of swordsman in real life, but it seems to me that if one where to wield two weapons it would require a lot more consentration on their part for attack or defence. This would obviously take away from the sheer power one could put into an attack were they weilding a single weapon.
That said, were they to introduce a skill for dual wield I think that to balance it with the rest of the weapons and skills they could halve the damage for both weapons.
I originally was going to propose a slightly increased attack speed to to make up for the lost damage; however, given the diversity of the mods you can have on a weapon, I would leave the attack speed the same and allow the mods on both weapons to remain unchanged.
Anyway, enough of my babbling...Next please!

I didn't realize they were trying to avoid such things. Perhaps Warriors need an Aggro Skill.
Class: Warrior
Name: Aggro (A.K.A. Nah-Nah! or Pfft!)
Atribute Base: Tactics
Cost: 10
Duration: 10 sec
Recharge 60 sec
Effect, every other level in Tactics, the chance of your being the target of an attack increases by 1 level, or 10%. (Sorry, I am not sure how Aggro works. I hear that Divine Favor may effect it, so just make it have the opposite effect of Divine Favor.)

Yes, that was part of the inspiration. Thanks for it.

Well, on her Dual Wield, how about...
1) No other sword skills can be used
2) Warrior/Ranger only
3) Elite Skill or at least, it must be captured from a boss
4) Sword bonus (like +10% while in stance) is specific to that sword's attack only.
I would also, just make it an extra attack with -2 reduced damage, rather than one attack doing combined damage. That way, there is a chance for each of them to be blocked or miss. I like the idea of it only being available when the skill is equiped.

hmmm, how about a ranger skill...
Stealth - stance - wilderness survival (Elite)
for 5..10 seconds you have a 50...90% chance of moving completely undetectable. movement slowed 50%
stance ends if you take/do damage or use a skill
cost 25E
cast time 3 secs
recharge time 120 secs
basically visually it would reduce your agro circle to 1/4 the normal size, allowing the ranger to sneak past, behind or above any potential opponents/foes
maybe even take it so far that the rangers position doesn't show on the mini map unless detected
may even be cool in PvP :p

PLANAR PORTAL (Elite)
Necro/Death
5 sec casting time
Regen in 60 sec
25 energy
Sacrifice 30% max heath to bring forth a demonic presence from the underworld. A lvl 20 demon that fights with the necromancer for (10-60) seconds then returns to the Underworld in a fiery blast that deals (30-120) dmg to all those adjacent to the demon. (This skill has a 50% chance to fail and damage the caster if you don't have a death magic of 10 or more)
HOW FREAKIN COOL WOULD THAT BE?!?!

@Supersheep
Oh? Now that I look back at it, it does seem too long. The 10 second might have to do. And Volatile does sound like a Necromancer's move? Darn, any suggestions on what to call it then?
@MustelaNigripes & UCCat
While those skills would be nice to see, until ANet starts releasing Aggro Control skills, in my opinion, I don't see them coming around. Maybe they will add those skills, but I don't have anything to compare about those yet.
@Sainty
Duel-Wielding has been talked about alot it seems. I'm with SuperSheep on this one as well, there are skills out there such as Illusionary Weaponry that would become too powerful with this skill, though if you made it Elite that wouldn't be a problem. Also, the need to set a certain skill and ways to scale it through levels also comes about. Such as your -20 armor. I was thinking rather a -hit percentage that lowers with higher levels or combine the swing delays of the two weapons and have a percentage of that delay taken away per skill level.
@BrianFellow
I'm not sure what to say on Brick Walls, so I won't comment on that one. The other elementalist skills seems to fit, even if Flamethrower seems a tad overpowered for its cost, though it is an elite.
Might need some balancing there, but not much I can spot at the moment. Also there may be a few combos that would be too powerful with them, so I'll have to look back and see.
The Ranger skills on the other hand, Called Shot sounds rather interesting. Adding easily can be interrupted to it, or something similar should even out the short recharge time you have given it, IMO. The other one, Blinding Arrows, seems to easily fit, due to its 3 second launching time. I was worried about it at first because of 5 seconds of blindness vs. 5 second recharge but the 3 second "cast" time seems to even it out. It may be too strong, but I can't tell.
@Aku
Those warrior skills you posted are rather.......I'm sorry but they don't balance or fit in my opinion, doesn't even seem to have much thought put into them. The enchantments all exist in other classes, and even then, they aren't as strong as what you have listed. All the +dmg moves you put down basically exist in the Elementalist's skills with Conjure Lightning/Fire/Cold, which only go from +1-13. No mention of what skill class they belong too and no time limit. Sickening Weapon exists in the ranger skills called "Apply Poison." I'm sorry if this is rude, but that was something I was hoping to avoid. (The Holy and Shadow Dmg again belong to other classes)
The Necromancer hex on other hand is a rather interesting concept. Just two balance issues. The first being the time the way it is. That type of skill lasting 20 seconds is rather harsh, and even though I cast Backfire alot, that is rather unfair.
Maybe a set time limit of 10 seconds, (Basing this off of Backfire) and lowering the recharge to 30 could work. Also, maybe scaling the dmg dealt this way as in the monks Reversal of Fortune. Interesting concept. And the bleeding portion? I never thought that bleeding ever bothered a necromancer due to spells such as Life Transfer and such, so that is easily counteracted for such a skill.
Again all this is just my thoughts. Again I ask if you read or leave a skill behind, comment on someone elses at the very least.

| QUOTE | @silverstein Illusion of Ale. |
Ya i guess i never really thought about pve, and i added the % chance to miss because other than that it would be pretty useless, in the case about skills being usable in pve and pvp
| QUOTE | Name: Aggro (A.K.A. Nah-Nah! or Pfft!) Atribute Base: Tactics Cost: 10 Duration: 10 sec Recharge 60 sec |
I don't see that or any other aggro skills usefull in pvp at all, almost a waste of a skillslot in pve too, when you can get the monsters to aggro you by yourself with just a little teamwork.

There is already a monk skill that's very similiar in that damage is holy damage. Judge's Insight does holy damage and +20% armor penetration which is in some ways better than more damage.
As for some of those skills I've listed, changing the recharge time and/or energy used would probably balance it more.
