ermmm, not sure what has changed for a trapper significantly since the update, except the spirit wall that could be built before... equip whatever traps you have... adjust your attributes according to how much damage you want to inflict... not sure what you are trying to trap tho

You need traps (obviously). As to skills:
1) Barbed Trap
2) Dust Trap (Be careful with Dust Trap though, it costs 25 points.)
3) Flame Trap
4) Spike Trap Elite Skill
5) Serpent's Quickness is also nice to bring along, as it seems to work on Traps as well as more direct attack skills.
6) You also will want Whirling defense or another defensive stance in case you accidentally aggro while setting traps. (If you happen to be a R/Me, Mantra of Resolve is also pretty nice)
7) Troll's Unguent, it heals and is very hard to interrupt. Nuff said.
8) A Resurrection Signet / spell.
As to equipment, I'd recommend Druid's armor for the energy Bonus. Maybe even get some other items that give you an energy boost.
Attributes:
Well your primairy should be Wilderness Survival, followed by Expertise. Third branch depends on your secondairy prof I guess.
The above 'build' is highly specialized. I.e. it can't do anything but trap. Personally I tend to bring no more than two, maybe three traps when filling a trappers role. I prefer to coordinate with a second (or third) Trapper as to who brings what.
Edit: fixed one typo, probably missed others.

QZ is handy when you are trying to set ooodles of traps, like in the UW. using winter in fire based areas (hells precipice, etc) is handy, other than that, i dont equip spirits, tho tru rangers might...most that i run with dont use any hardly

i see your point. I really am only looking to trap in UW mabye other places when i feel like it. I mean i love trapping but anywhere besides UW when you want to trap the tanks dont listen and just rush in half of the time. then the other half of the time they wont let you set traps fo more than 15 seconds. so that is my reasoning about only trapping in UW unless i have the urge to trap. Once again i love to trap by all means, but i just do not like people nto giving me the time or listen to me when im trying to set them. but thanks for the help UCcat and everyone else i think all my questions have been answered

once you have your traps worked out watch the order you set them as a dust trap blinding the target after being through a spike trap crippled would be silly if it ends there. Have the dust trap back a bit from the flames or spikes to get the best from them.
I like spike and flame as the main traps with dust traps as the fallback plan. The elite spike with knockdown layed over a flame trap with twice the damage.
Workout trap paths and work quick.

Following someone elses build might be a good starting point but dont stop there. Workout from the effect the traps have which you like better and make tactics that fit you better as its not a one size fits all.

My trapping build is:
(8 marks +2, 12 WS +1, 10 exp +1)
For skills i use:
1..Poison Arrow
2..Whirling Defense
3..Healing Spring (never know when its gonna come in handy)
4..Flame Trap
5..Barbed Trap
6..Dust Trap
7..Troll Unguent
8..Rez Sig or some other resurect skill
Having found that bringing most warriors to your traps is an effort in futility I instead bring the traps to them. I stand in the back and wait for the warrior(s) to aggro, then using Whirling Defense I run up next to the warrior and in this order use: Dust Trap>>Barbed Trap>>Flame Trap>>and if neccessary Healing Spring to help heal the warrior>>Poison Arrow. This build is useful if your farming in someplace like Grenth's Footprint or Sorrows Furnace. I've had decent success in PvP with it as well.
Note: This build is not an UW trapper. People using this build in the UW can not hold GW_Ranger liable for any loss of life, money, drops, self-esteem and/or credibility with teammates if you use this build improperly. End of legal disclaimer.
If you ever try this build out, tell me how well it works for you.

My trapper build is pretty similar to lani's build above with a couple of minor changes.
1) Barbed Trap
2) Dust Trap
3) Flame Trap
4) Spike Trap
5) Quickening Zepher/Energizing Winds (depending on other trappers loadout)
6) Throw Dirt/Lightning Reflexes
7) Troll's Unguent
8) Resurrection Signet
Sometimes if QZ/EW is covered by other rangers in the party then I carry both Lighting Reflexes and Throw Dirt.
Throw Dirt is great for trapping. You can run up to the creature, Throw Dirt, then, depending on the length of time your blindness effect lasts, lay down Spike Trap, Flame Trap, Barbed Trap, and Dust Trap to give you more time for your other traps to recharge and lay them down again. Primarily I use this build in UW but I find it great to solo farm in the Crystal Desert. Typically if soloing, I'll swap out Ressurection Signet for Apply Poison, so now the creatures are blind and dying from bleeding, fire, and poison while you continue to lay the traps.

Why Lightning Reflexes? Sure it allows you to attack 33% faster but most trappers have rather low bow damage ability. Wouldn't Whirling Defense be better since it lasts nearly twice as long? But then your trapper is made for a different role than mine.
PS if you want to lay a lot of traps in a hurry, first have a high expertise(very important due to energy considerations), then use QZ and EW followed up with Serpent's Quickness and finally your traps.
