I'm going to be ascending very soon and I had a very general question...
What exactly does Ascending do for you? Besides allow you to go to FoW/UW and switch your secondary...

and u gotta be ascend'd to get the quests for extra attribution points, one in forge and forgot the other

Ascending gets you to Forge (the right way) but NOT Ember Light Camp. You get the the Camp by completing Thunderhead Keep (argh, don't we all hate it)

Just a little thing that most people are mistaken about.
You do not have to be ascended to do the Forgotten Wisdom quest (aka the 15 attribute points quest from the desert).
You can't do Hero's Challenge though (the 15 attribute points quest from Droknar's Forge).
Verified by my Necro a few days ago.

Also, you cannot get into the new area, Sorrows Furnace or Grenth's Footprint, without being ascended.

Thank you for the correction. I coulda swore that ANet said the new area was a bonus for ascended characters only. I must have been mistaken...

how do u ascend i know that u need to do the 3 missions in the desert which btw are fauking hard if ur level 16 lol. but after you do them wat do u do to ascend?

Talk to the ghost. It will have two options. Choose the first one. ( I can't remember the name of the ghost). You'll have to stand in a circle, get that fire on you and step on three stones. Quick cutscene. You will enter then to fight a doppleganger.
Doppleganger WILL bring all the skills that you have on your skillbar. So be wise about it. I suggest bringing useless enchantments/skills that the dopplganger will keep repeating. I'm not so sure on his energy regen, so don't know if enchantments will stop him or not.
If you feel his bow is doing too much damage to you, run up to him and have him switch to his axe.

That might work out pretty well then, but just in case there's a sleuth of guides on how to beat that Doppleganger in the Guides section here.
The Ghost you have to talk to is called "Great Ritual Priest Zahmut" and is found at the teleporter inside Augury Rock.
