I've heard a lot about Alien Swarm, though I've yet to try it. What is everyone's favorite?

well i'll just run down a few, since i have a tendancy to get bored quickly and thus try everything i can =P i'll just run down some of the ones of the MSU contest fame...
alien swarm: very smash tv-ish (if you remember that far back) adaptation... basically a top-down perspective of you fighting through levels of alien --well-- swarms... basically the shooting element plays similar to an FPS game, only you control your horizontal aim but not your vertical... the absolute best part of this mod is playing online coop with friends , especially if youre all on voice chat , or even better, a lan...
air buccaneers: one of the most unique (aka weird) games ive ever played... basically it's a game of vehicular combat with a few different specific game modes (theres tdm, domination, and i think a couple others)... the weird part is, you're piloting variations of hot air balloons, and shooting cannons at each other! you also have things like a blunderbust (old old old old school shotgun type rifle) , bags of gunpowder, and of course a sword... it's still fairly early in development (the basics are all there but the polish is lacking) but just playing vs bots there's nothing like hopping off your flying raft thing and onto their ship and slaughtering everyone with your S_Word!
clone bandits: this gameplay mode (not a total conversion like the above two) is best described as ONS on crack... you ride around in self-detonating rocket bikes and pink flamingo mine-spitting "lounge tanks" trying to steal the other team's clones... of course you yourself are a clone, so once your team runs out, you can't respawn... it's actually a very interesting gameplay mechanic, that is similar to a mix of ons and ctf... you can score clones by either holding a Clone Pump (like a node) , or stealing clone jars directly from enemy base and returning them to yours (a la ctf)... one of the most uniquely styled mods around too, can't wait til there's more maps available...
i'll post some more when i have time =P

I found it to be great fun.
It plays close to class based DDOM.

I like Frag.Ops very much. It makes me remember the times of good ol' Tactical Ops. for UT99.

then again im usually on pretty late at night
how about a rocketeer irc channel that's not on quakenet?

I have yet to find any decent realism mod for UT2004 besides Red Orchestra, therefore, it gets my vote.

I tested a lot and my favourites are metaball for singleplayer and red orchestra for multiplayer( if you have team mates that know what to do).

IIRC there is a rocketeer ladder, I'm on fairly late (10 pm+ est) and in most of the same channels as you, I'll hit you up if i remember.
