Hey guys, I'm just curious to see what songs you guys like to work out to. I'm trying to make a new Lifting Mix for the gym, and I'm running out of songs that I don't have on all the previous ones. I'm into a lot of hard rock and metal, but I'm open to pretty much anything. I want something that I can do my squats, benchpress, arms, legs, etc to. No running, I'm a thrower for the Track&Field team. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

if you don't already have them i would recomend white zombie (or rob zombie) fear factory, whorgasam (old and out of print may be hard to find) drown (may also be out of print) pig (a guy from KMFDM ot is mostly import stuff) ramstien (german but the music is great) sevendust and rage against the machine always works for me.
i tireid to mix mainstream with some stuff you may have never heard. i know some of it is hard to find on cd but with the internet you should be able to find it.

The only band out of those I didn't know was Whoregasm. I gotta say, Drown's CD is GREAT workout music. "What It Is To Burn" has got to be one of the only songs that can get me pumped up and ready to rip someone's head off no matter what mood I'm in.

It's always refreshing to hear that no matter where you are, no matter who you happen to be, when you hear that certain special song, you reach way down into your soul... and pick its pocket so you can buy some brass knuckles with which to pound the nearest elderly lady. :)

If you were to say walking or running, what gets me moving is Techno... but since you're banging the weights I'd say Rammstein's CD: Sehnsucht, Mutter and Reise, Reise aren't that hard as Sehnsucht is. Slipknot's first CD which was self titled, then I'd say System of a Down's fist CD also self titled. Also some Black Sabbeth... that's pretty much as hard as I go, I'm not really into the "Death Metal" where all you hear from the singer is RUHRUHRUHRUHRUH and you look at the lyrics they provide on the little insert for the cover of the CD only to discover that you just wasted 12 bucks on a crappy band, thank you very much Cannibal Corpse.

Cardio: Techno-Dance. Any of the Louis Devito mixes are excellent. Any of the "high energy" mixes are quite good as well.
Lifting: Speed Metal. Any Speed Metal.

ok vince, i dont know if youre familiar with the game series Dynasty Warriors or if anyone else is. but im a huge fan and get every new installment even though nothing is ever new. but the music in that series is awesome!!! its hard rock with the sweetest riffs ive ever heard (b/c when i think of ancient chinese warriors and battles, i think hard rock). I have the dynasty warriors 3,4 and 5 soundtracks (imported right from china via ebay) and thats what i lift too. DW 5 is by far the best for music and some of the tracks can get you jacked through the roof. ill also throw in some Rollins Band or Motly Crue. mayeb some DMX beacuse all the barking and anger can get you pumped. if im doing cardio though i like to listen to the killers or maybe saves the day something that i can sing in my head and follow with instead of looking at the watch or the timer

OK you want some weight training music...I got what you're looking for. Lets start with some Hatebreed...maybe some As I lay Dying...and even some Bury Your Dead. I'm also a BIG fan of Dimebag (R.I.P.) so some Pantera will always work. I'm BIG into punk too so how about some Misfits or even Me FIrst and the Gimmie Gimmies (if you like covers.) If you have any questions feel free to send me a tell or PM...I used to DJ for a local hardcore band in the Philly area so I have a TON of hardcore on wax and CD.

I don't really have much to add because I mix far too many downloads to give you some ideas, but I'm amazed at how many "metal" fans are out there. I thought that stuff went out in the mid-90s. :P Eh...To each his own I guess. Either way, I like listening to anything that references hate, killing, beatdowns, or plain 'ole vanilla pain when I'm lifting. It keeps me motivated, and I zone out easily.

P.S. - Nobody thinks that Rage Against the Machine is just a bunch of whiners? Also, I can't get over the fact that a guy that spends hours headbanging is trying to enlighten me about the corrupt system. :P

whorgasam is an industrial band with steven pearcy as the lead singer. not an overall great album but it has some great songs on it.
i agree that drown's cd is one of the best ever. i play it any time i can for a metal fan that has never heard of it.
As far as punk, there are some good ones. The misfits are great but the songs were not recorded well so it distracts from it. In regards to rage, I think it is about the passion vs what he is saying. I have had republican friends that have gotten pumped up from it.
P.S. Canibal Corpse duped me too.

Regarding Punk, since Rise brought it up. 7 Seconds - Walk Together, Rock Together is a great CD (And the cover of Nena's 99 Red Balloons just rocks!)...although the tracklist was screwed up on my copy. Bump on the Misfits, although I'm partial to the "Post-Danzig" Misfits. Saw them live with a crappy ass band opening for them (Uranium 238, I think) at Club Babyhead, in Providence...which is now a Spikes Junkyard Dogs (hot dog place). Umm...any of that older 80s speed punk is great.
Also, so of the faster and harder industrial songs (a little more mainstream than was was mentioned) by Gravity Kills, Stabbing Westward and Nine Inch Nails would be good too. You'd have to do some picking and choosing though because the last thing you want to do is throw on a CD to work out to and all of the sudden have a depressing slow song, like Hurt, come on.

Some candlebox is always good. Bumb on the ONE BAND TO RULE THEM ALL...misfits. If you like semi-chillout songs for the cool down period, Sublime is always great. Pantera, System of a Down, Papa Roach, Fear Factory, Metallica, and Guns' n Rosses are all good. One I haven't seen anyone post anything about is Sepultura, a mixed spanish group with english mainly and some spanish thrown in. El Nino is a good solid Spanish rock band with some hard riffs...even though I don't understand thier words. Back to punk...the Ramones are a good band. That's all I can think of right now.

Ah silly old Stabbing Westward how I love that band. When you're feeling really down in the dumps, listen to them and the want to put the gun in your mouth goes away... but when you're feeling good and listen to them... they make you want to put the gun back in your mouth. They really got some depressing songs, that just rule. Though I can suggest some songs by them that'll get you up and kicking to bang the weights with:
First CD: Ungod (Personally they have some good songs on this CD but they are just recorded badly)
- Lies
- Throw
Second CD: Wither Blister Burn and Peel
- I Don't Believe
Third CD: Darkest Days
- Drug Store (Maybe)
- Save Yourself
- Haunting Me
- Torn Apart (Loved listening to this while playing Duke Nukem)
- When I'm Dead
- The Thing I Hate (Great I tell you what)
Fourth CD: Stabbing Westward
Skip this CD, I didn't particularlly liked this one... seemed too happy and cheerful, which is kind of weird to think of it that way... Although I like the last song 'Television' after downloading and watching a Fan made Music Video using Final Fantasy (7-9). Love the cover art, that's how my ex-girlfriend use to "be", ah damn I'm depressed again... Where's my Stabbing Westward CD?
"Fifth CD": The Essential Stabbing Westward. This is pretty much the "best of" songs from Stabbing Westward. Though there is one song one here to get and that is the remixed version of Torn Apart from the movie Spawn soundtrack I really like that one. I find it funny that they don't redo the songs they have for this CD, but instead just take the crappy audio ones from Ungod and put them on the CD... I would of liked to hear them brought up to date on this CD, oh well.
So that's about 10 songs for ya from the Stabbing Westward Collection if you're interested.
Warning, my stories and blog is not meant for those who are easily offended. If you are one of them, then avoid the link, you wussies.

So far, I've realized quite a bit of the people on GameAmp have good choice in music. Stabbing Westward, NIN, Slipknot, and Rob Zombie are all very good choices. Some choices people may not have thought up, ShineDown, GodHead, Godsmack, Disturbed, and Filter.

Although I like stabing westward, the best thing about them is that Jay and Silent Bob danced to them in clerks.
I would agree with sepultura and also throw in old megadeath.
Edit: how in the world did I forget disturbed, I love them. I would also say that I am suprised how many people here like hard music. Late last year I had to move to rural GA to take over a market and these people know nothing about music. To have some fun I made up some awards and named them after some classic rock and new wave (early punk) artists such as john lennon, paul mccartney, jimi hendrix, roger waters, joey ramone, danny elfman, mark mothersbaugh, pete townsend, david byrne, joe strummer, johnny rotten and mick jones. I have 80+ employees and not one and I mean not one person knew who ANY of these people were. I was shocked. Ok rant over

I've looked at RAtM differently ever since I found out they support a convicted cop-killer...but anyway...
I don't think I should be recommending much in the way of music to *anyone*, but really anything with a steady, fairly upbeat tempo is fine for cardio stuff I'd think. For me, that could range from something like Horn Dog by Overseer, to Trampled Underfoot by Zep, to Strict Machine by Goldfrapp, to Jungle Boogie by Kool & the Gang, to Funkytown by Lipps, Inc (or half a dozen other disco tunes, like Knock on Wood)...

Grif, I like all the picks you have in that mix (especially the Linkin Park stuff), but Broken? You got all these bumpin' and thumpin' energy tunes, and then... Broken? Love the song, but I don't know if I could work out to it. And how come you didn't include "Maniac" by Michael Sembello?

Nice list Grifter, the jay-z/linkin park ones are particually kick-ass! I usually keep fit by biking, so any music I listen to is accompanied by a constant whistling and it really isnt worth bothering. Biking gives me good leg strength, but upper body strength isn't too great!!!
Oh btw, the list of artist those people didnt know is shocking! I'm only 14 and i've heard of most of them!

I can't believe I left this band off my original post but Boy Sets Fire...my old band actually recorded our first CD in their studio (which happens to be in their house in DE.) Also another band that we're friends with is Funeral For A Friend...they're not really hardcore ut still very good music. As I write this I am listening to Alexisonfire.
As for Rage...man I can't even post the way I fell about them. Coming from a family made up of Philly cops...just think of what I want to say...nothing of theirs will ever see the light of day around me...

Can't say I'm a big Rage fan myself, either. When I was on my "angry music" kick in the 90s, I did pick up their first CD and did listen to it now and again. Musically speaking, I thought it was passable. However, after hearing their second CD and realizing that it sounded almost exactly the same as the first, it made me listen to the first one a little more closely, at which point I realized that just about every song sounds the same. Somewhere along the line, I lost the tape (yes, tape) and never really shed a tear over it. It was around that time I started going on my Toad the Wet Sprocket binge, as my mentality and life had changed a great deal anyway...but alas, Toad the Wet Sprocket is REALLY not workout music. :)

I really love that part.
Toad the wet sprocket is good especially "walk on the ocean"
As for my ealier post about whorgasam I take it all back. I have 2 of their songs on my workout CD for the last 10 years and today went back to listen to the whole album and must say it sucks. No wonder I only put those 2 songs on it.

Walk on the Ocean is good, but there's SO much better stuff by them. On that same CD, Fear, the songs "Pray Your Gods" and "I Will Not Take These Things For Granted" are, without a doubt, two of my favorite songs ever.
However, their entire library is just outstanding.
Bread and Circus - Their first CD. Extremely good, although you can tell it's an "early" recording. It's fairly simple, however there's some really good tracks on it. "Way Away" is probably the best known song on this CD.
Pale - This is a great depression CD. It has a great deal of personal meaning to me. I bought this CD just after my aunt passed away and listened to it on repeat while I was driving to her wake/funeral. (It was a long time ago)
Fear - Probably their most well rounded CD. This is the one with Walk on the Ocean, All I Want and the two songs I mentioned earlier.
Dulcinea - This was the followup to Fear. It's a little more poppy, but still really worthwhile. Its a bit more mature than their previous work.
Rarities: In Light Syrup - This is kind of a mish-mash CD because it's B-Sides and Singles. Good Intentions, the song from Friends, is on this CD. It's good, but it doesn't "flow".
Coil - This was their last original release. I wasn't overly impressed, although there were a few notable songs on it. The song "Crazy Life" was on this CD, which was featured in the movie "Empire Records".
PS: A Retrospective - This is a greatest hits CD with a few unreleased tracks. Good stuff for the casual fan. Most of the well known tracks are on it.
The Live Homecoming CD - (Can't remember the exact name of it) This recording was done sometime between Fear and Dulcinea. I think it was in 1994. However it wasn't release until quite some time later. Toad put on an extremely good live show, this CD is totally worth getting, if you are a big fan.
There are also quite a few singles and EPs, the most notable, in my opinion, is called "Acoustic Dance Party" which features live Acoustic versions of Something's Always Wrong and a few other tracks.
Sorry for threadjacking. :)
