Just thought I would start this forum topic asking who here has played the Mesmer class seriously as their main class, not their sub-class. Unlike some other jobs, Mesmers seem to be a rare breed, usually over-shadowed by E/Mes due to their advantage in energy.
Started as a Mesmer here since I entered Guild Wars, I've become rather addicted to the Mesmer's Inspiration line of spells, and always almost have them equipped and a minimum of 12 stat points in the skill after bonuses.

I have a Mesmer/Necromancer. He isn't my main character, so I haven't gotten too far with him yet. I'm not really sure what I plan on doing with the character, but I like what I'm seeing with the Mesmer so far!

I'm not a primary mesmer but I'll post here anyway. I've rediscovered my mesmer abilities with the removal of refund points, and right away I found a way to bring out the mesmer in me. It's possible to be a very successful mesmer without actually being one. I'm a R/Me, so I put up oath shot elite skill and start spamming backfire at all the casters. Where before it took forever for my group to manage a single healer, after that they dropped like flies! To manage my energy I would also spam an Inspiration spell (I forget what its called, but it's the one with the hand).
Besides which, I've been meaning to create a full-blown mesmer (dunno what secondary) so that I can go deeper into the realm of mesmerizing things.

I recently started a Me/N. I have done several post-searing quests, but no missions yet. I originally intended to utilize the fast casting to make bone-horrors more quickly (for those groups that do not give you time to do so after combat). But, I always play all quests in pre-searing and hunt some char before going post, to help learn the classes I have chosen. I am having a difficult time choosing which attribute to place points in because so many of them have such good spells.
Somewhere in these forums I read where someone claimed that the mesmer was a selfish (or was it self-serving) class. They have some excellent spells that really help the party out. I just hope that as I progress, people will not be so prejudiced against the class that I can not get into groups.
So, I guess my point is, that although I had intended to make a ecro with faster casting, I think that I will actually end up doing what you said. Playing a primary mesmer as a mesmer.

i also have a m/n, currently only level 7 but i still have gotten many skillz and found some combos i could use efectively at even level 4. for mesmers and necromancers, u need to get skillz from quests started in sardelac sanitarium. there are at least 6 skillz to be gotten from quests started in sardelac that are easy to do.
with my mes/nec, one easy combo to use is to stack health degenerating spells on any type of enemy. i use life siphon, phantom pain, conjure phantasm, and sometimes parasitic bond. this can achieve around 7-10 arrows of heal degeneration for the enemy, and you can easily see them deteriorate. if they arent dead by the time your skillz end, then phantom pain gives them a deep wound to make them easier to finish. all these skillz are obtained from places up to yaks i think. another helpful addition to this is having a fire ele with immolate in your group, or use a disease skill(4 arrows), u can buy defile flesh at LA i think .
also about the minions+fast cast is that this was what i had originally made my mes/nec for, minion armies. but i think as they live longer, they degen health faster, correct me if im wrong. so this makes them a pain to maintain. this would be a lot easier with the skilll veratra's sacrifice, only bought at copperhammer and the areas aroung it. this gives all minions 10 arrows regen hp for a certain time, at 15% health sac. hope this helps for using mes/necs and the likes.

I'm a Mes secondary simply because I'd rather have good armor and think the mesmers have some of the most fun skills. I mean Arcane Thievery, Arcane Mimicry, Inspired Enchantment, Signet of Humility? Come on those are just plain nifty.

That was me, I think.
But what I said, errr, I ment to say is, well thought I wanted to say or seem to think I mean is that this related to Healing capabilities of the Mesmer or something to that effect. Yes that was definately it, maybe.
Sorry, confusion is my natural state, atleast, I think so.

my main character is a mesmer, and ive put well over 250 hours with her, got thru all missions, and done some SF, along with LOTS of trips into FoW and UW, and close to capping all of the elites, i think i have 3 left. made alot of builds for pvp and consider myself pretty well versed in mesmer strategy(not the best but i know my stuff). I play both a domination and illusion mesmer (not too great with inspiration) She is a Me/W simply for healing signet and flurry for when using IW build. Also play a good degen, used to play a good fragility (before it got nerfed), good interrupt, and a very good shutdown. so if you need any help with mesmer let me know, i might know some answers.

Illusive Sheep- Lvl20 Me/W
Vivacious Sheep- lvl20 E/Mo
Super Sheep- lvl 4 W/N
Slaughtered Sheep- PvP Mo/N

My first attempt at a mesmer was a Me/W. I specialized in Domination Magic and Fast Casting.

Heh, my primary character is a Me/Mo20. I have well over 500 hours of play on it according to my handy dandy game play tracker.
First off let me tell you, Domination Magic + Fast Casting = MAJOR DAMAGE. You can drain magic, stop spells, steal spells, and do loads of damage in a fast amount of time.
Here is the skill set I use:
-Chaos Storm
-Backfire
-Empathy
-Power Spike
-Energy Burn
-Hex Breaker
-Purge Conditions
-Ressurect
My Domination Magic level is 14, my Fast casting level is 9. You can do well over 400 dmg in less than 10 seconds if you use your skills right. I prefer Domination of Inspiration and Illusion because it does more damage without relying on "Certain conditions" that have to happen for it to do that damage.
For example, say I use Backfire on a monk, everytime he uses a spell he takes 126 dmg...If they use orison of healing alot, well, you can do well oever 500 dmg easy just with that. That is not even counting the other spells you could have on him.
Energy: I currently have 52 energy and never seem to run out. Not a problem for me.
Overall I prefer the mesmer over the Necro, Ranger, Elementalist, and monks prescisly for these reasons. And the fact that a mesmer is the only character who can take out a 55 monk.
I hope all my information ahs helped you, if you ahve any questions please ask, I garuntee you I can answer them.
:p

For my 4th character i decided to go mesmer/elementalist because none of my other 3 had mesmer as secondary, and they're so damn rare.
I like being a mesmer, especially in the shiverpeak arenas because half the time, the eles there are flare spammers and a little backfire really shuts them up. My origional idea was to be a fastcasting ele, but now i've decided to go mesmer all the way!

I did the same thing, thinking it would be good to have a fastcasting Ele, but the ascension fight with my dopplegangger taught me otherwise. Backfire, Empathy, and Conjure Phantasm are the skills you hate having cast on you, but you love casting on people. I am currently in the process of getting the 15k Enchanters Set, and black dye so my character looks like the Phantom of the Opera

i have made every type of mesmers comination possible and i like my Me/N the best i have over a 700 hours of play with him and i have earned almost every skill bye quests or captureing them. my entire guild has at least one ME/N or N/ME i have one of each and i love them. i can usually get 10 degen on almost every member of the mob before they reach me and i usually bring a single monk mercenery into a mission and make it most of the way but it takes alot of time casting then running reapeat but i get a lot of good items and new ideas.

My primary character is a mesmer necromancer. I've made her more of an assault character than a spell slasher, meaning I focus on domination magic, blood magic, and death magic. She's a good character, but she's complicated to use... if you use the wrong spell at the wrong time, she's toast. I tend to go with hexes and instant damage spells because I find spell slashers are pretty much useless if you don't catch a spell in the second it's being cast, or if the other team is mostly tanks and rangers.
Because I got so fed up with seeing post-searing Ascalon I left her in limbo for a few... months... and re-adopted her after my assassin couldn't get any groups in factions. She's about to ascend, and she's gotten there soley with the help of henchies. So I'd say she's pretty good.
