Maybe I'm nitpicking, but has anyone noticed that on all the ranger armour sets the wrist guard is on the wrong arm?
I.e. the bow is universally held in the left hand (which is not smart if you're right handed and handling a longbow, but who cares) but the wristguards, which protect the wrist and lower arm from the bowstring is on the right arm.

Just noticed it and thought it was odd :-)
As to druid's armor, well it looks like bundle's of twigs to me, and the female version sure has enough flesh exposed for easy movement. As long as that ltittle knot up front doesn't brake :-p

My guess is that rangers uses wristbands on the right side to prevent carpian tunnel syndrome from plucking all the time.... ;)

Wearing it on the right arm is a way of showing their eliteness. When worn on the left, it is viewed as a symbol of weakness or putting your faith in armor and protective gear (which we all know is a silly notion, who needs armor anyway). Elite marskmen have to need for such trivial trinkets, as their poise and control of the bow and arrow is so great they will never rip up their arm with a bow string.
These bowmasters are a rare breed and are comparable with the noob w/mo. The noob w/mo is a master of sword and shield to the extent that he no longer requires the assistance of a team and can single-handedly annihilate any mob of monsters that may get in his way.
So, whether you are an elite marksman or noob w/mo remember, armor is for sissys.
;-)
Honestly, I have no idea. Maybe the artist had a bad hangover that day.

I messed up once with a 120pound compound bow was told I was lucky to still have skin there lol. So I would say the game makers made such a cool looking protection plate they put it on the right so people can see it.
Same as the ranger reaching for arrows that are not there.

Another thing bugging me is when you type /yawn and you see the face of the characters, they have the same face expression, LOL. Also when in a cinematic, you see a warrior with shield and sword but when they animate the shield and sword dissapears and re appears when done with animation, LOL, they should have fixed that I guess.

the high poly models needed to move the face then think of how many players and the endless animation changes for each weapon combo would be silly to try. As it stands the game is to a point well written and does not need a 64fx with duel top end video cards to run and alot of people with lower end computer like it that way.
think of the complex moves you ask for then think of say 50+ characters in a town doing something. All that extra movement has to be sent as info to your comp and chews up the net line. So keeping simple yet looking good they took the easy way of dropping the weapons in emote use.
Edit = as far as I was told the right wrist needs some flex to alow the right finger and hand movement in firing to take the strain off the fingers.
Face movement would add a min of 25-50 poly count per character head so times that by the player count and rule out about half the people playing right now as their computer would be too small.

| QUOTE | CGW: OK, now for a pair of real riddles. First off, why don't characters' mouths ever move during cut-scenes?
GG: Because [they] have the amazing ability to emit sounds and communicate their messages without such mundane things as mouth movement! OK, OK, fine...due to the fact that GW has been localized into six languages thus far, we felt that our development time was better spent creating more content rather than expending the time and effort to lip-synch dialogue to various languages. We'll continue to refine the immersion of the story, and having more realistic facial animation is definitely something we'll look into for the future. |

How come all the characters are right handed? I'm left handed in real life and so I hold the bow with my right hand and draw with my left. Even though its a small thing I think it would be cool to be able to choose your handedness for you character, add that little bit extra uniquenss.
As for the wristguard, I think it should be on the arm holding the bow because if an arrow slips out during firing or if it was incorrectly loaded the fletchings(feathers) can cut your wrist and hand up really fast. I had an arrow's fletchings cut my hand once, the arrow fell a little bit down the bow string as I fired and it nicked my hand. Didn't even feel it when it put a half-inch to inch long cut in my hand(arrows can move and the feathers are sharp if you think about them moving that fast) luckily it was very shallow, but it still bled quite a bit.

When using a bow properly you dont need wrist guards, the armour on the left is simply for protection

On a target range, maybe.
When shooitng a bow in a combat situation, you want a wristguard, trust me :-)

Ever seen Samurai armor?
What armor are you talking about specifically? Plus when fireing a bow usuall you need a thicker glove on the fireing hand due to the string rubbing on your fingers or at least tape.
A good bow master doesn't need a protective glove on the bow hand, if you flex your arm correctly you wont hit yourself like a n00b.
I may be wrong no one is perfect.

I haven't. :-)
However I have shot both bows & crossbows and guns on firing ranges.
I've also played Laser-Quest and I'm extrapolating from my experiences with aiming a gun on a firing range and aiming a gun in the heat of a Laser-Quest "battle".
Now guns don't have strings, I know, but just imagine how easy/difficult it is to have to quickly change angles, aim and keep your arm in such a position that the string won't hit your inner arm when firing...

Dang my guess was you secretly had a time machine and went back in time to fight with bows and swords so you could understand the complexities of the combat in guild wars.
Well i guess i was wrong.
But yeah it would be difficult to change firing directions and stuff i got hit with the string a few times when firing at a target in gym that really hurts.

Hmmm. It would be nice to be able to go back to Ashencourt and see how the English longbows massacared the overwhelming French forces.
Ah, on reflection, it'd probably be real gross and ugly :-/

i do archery myself and although i'm right-handed i hold my bow in my right hand, cause myu right eye isn't as good as my left...
so if the rangers are right handed the wristguard has to be on their right hand and they need an armguard on their left arm cause it hurts very bad when your bowstring hits your arm(the spot where it hits changes from colour even blue-->red-->purple-->yellow :p)

Alright kids, here's the deal with archery, from somebody who has shot thousands of arrows from several recurves and compound bows:
You can fire a bow without a writsguard, and the string will slap your wrist every time. Whoever it was that said that if you hold a bow the right way it won't hit you: you are dead wrong. If you hold the bow the RIGHT way, it WILL hit you every time, but you will be strapping on the guard after the first slap, because it sucks hard. If you try to bend your arm away from the string you are holding the bow WRONG, you accuracy will suffer, and you may put the arrow through your arm. The bow arm is traight and locked. Your body is turned sideways, in line with the target, and the bow arm is extended straight out sideways.
As for the string hand: if you don't use a release, you grip the string, not the arrow nock, with the first three fingers of your hand. The index finger is above the nock, and the other two below. You draw the string back and place your index finger right into or near the corner of your mouth so that your dominant eye is right behind the string. The arrow rest is on the other side of the bow grip. Leather padding on the fingers of the string hand is essential, not for a good shot, but so the string doesn't damage the tendons on the inside of your fingers. Drawing a strong bow without a glove is pretty painful after about ten shots.
When you release the string, you simply relax the string hand. That hand typically needs no extra wrist support under normal circumstances. The string actually goes toward the bow arm initially, not straight forward. Before it gets to the point where the arrow is released, it swings all the way back on the other side of the sight line. Basically, it moves in a shallow "S" pattern. While this is going on, the arrow itself is also flexing, because the initial force drives the side of the shaft against the bow. There are no straight lines in archery, none at all. However, it is this "S" path that causes the string to slap the wrist every time, and there is no way around it.
Agincourt:
In adition to the English Longbow's ability to pierce armor (the bodkin point was also a factor in that ability), the French got slaughtered at Agincourt because their cavalry was ordered to charge the English position, who were on a hill. Between the french position and the hill there was a wide open area, and it had rained for several days previous to the battle. The horses got completely stuck in the mud and were easy targets for the archers. In that day, heavy armor for horseback required the rider to be hoisted onto and off of his horse. You didn't just jump off, so they pretty much had no choice but to sit there and get murdered. Ah, good times, good times...

Thanks for the very good explanation :-)
As to the armor, just shows why Plate Armor ain't everything.
When in France I saw an authentic hoist they used at tournaments to get into saddle. Other means were stepladders and such. I also saw a chestpiece from Agincourt that got pierced by an arrow in the lower right stomach section. You really, really didn't want to get hit by one of those armor piercing points (forgot the name again). The metal had twisted bits pointing inwards and had a length 3 full inches.
