To delete or not to delete...

... I'm stumped.

I have a R/Mo20, a Mo/Me20, a W/Mo20, and a Me/Mo14 (my, I like do like monks!), and now, my mood commands me that I absolutely have to play an Ele.

The thing is, I have all my characters equipped with Droknar's armours, and it'd be a pity to really let them go (especially my stylish Mesmer and Ranger). Not to mention all the things I've gathered and the time I've spent with them.

If you were in my position, which one would you choose to delete (if any, at all)?

Additionally, does anyone know whether one could save an armour set for a character to be used by a new character with the same name at a later date?

For example, let's say we have Jane Doe, a W/Mo20 with a set of Gladiator's armour. We then delete that Jane Doe. At a later date, a new Jane Doe is created (with the same name and primary profession), and give the old set that we have to her. Is that possible?

Re: To delete or not to delete...

I would say delete something. If you have nothing left to do with any of them, why keep all of them? You can just keep most of them, and start a new one. Try without being a monk, also. Maybe you could try being a E/N or a N/E, depending on what kind of style you would like to have. Your necromancer would also be a good transition away from monks, because of blood magic's "healing" capabilities. Just my thoughts, though, do what you like.

Tried this, won't work. The same with weapons. Armor and weapons (after customization) are personal items that cannot be used by any other character. The game engine keeps track of all characters, even removed ones, and it does NOT consider another character with the same name and qualities to be the same character as a removed one. Goes to show that despite the abundance of resurrection in the game, the developers do not believe in metempsychosis :)

Re: To delete or not to delete...

I would say if you HAD to delete any you should delete your Ranger. I myself have a Ranger thats finished the game and apart from Trap teams in the UW they are very unloved.

P.s
I know its off topic but i just noticed i have 63 post's and 63 Cred w00t w00t. lol

Re: To delete or not to delete...

IMO you need to keep the warrior for running and farming. Keep the monk because everyone knows how much monks are needed. Keep the ranger as they make good trappers for UW. So, the only other option is to give the mesmer the axe. I have been doin the same thing with my slots. I have 3 characters that I cant seem to part with, and the fourth slot is the one I keep deleting when I feel the need to create a new character.

Re: To delete or not to delete...

I noticed that you have Mo/ME and a Me/Mo, so one can go.
If you made an E/Mo you could still effectively monk, so your primary monk could go. Just my two cents.
I have always found that after a delete I miss the character I deleted, so whatever choice you make will probably be tough.
Good Luck.

As an afterthough. Have you tried just changing a secondary class to Ele? Just so you can get a feel for the class and whether you will really like it?

Re: To delete or not to delete...

My friend deleted his ranger a while back because he didnt have any skill points and (I think) he had unlocked most or all of the skills with it. He had also beaten the game.
I dont have any other advice then that because I have 1 slot open for pvp and dont plan on making another char until the next chapter. >_< sorry.

Re: To delete or not to delete...

I think these are the best ideas (My ideas):

- Wait until they add the extra character slots.

- Change one of your secondary proffesions to Elementalist (Just the same as having ele really).

Re: To delete or not to delete...

I suggest you change your Me/Mo for a Me/E (with inspiration skills you should't run out of energy too soon) to try the ele class. If you see you would rather play a real elem than a second class elem then I suggest you delete the ranger (monks are good for underworld so I don't think you need 2 chars for that) AND another char, so you can create PvP chars when you want or need one, and get another RPG char...

well gl with this tough decision!

-Artalas Foribir : W/E20 (shocking swordman)
-Mephisto the Necro : N/Me20 (fuel leaker)
-Me Unforgiven : Mo/W20 (Invicimonk...old lol)

No, it isn't. There is a definite difference between elementalist primary and secondary characters. Only after you have casted incessantly for five to ten minutes, averaging a spell every 1.5 seconds, then you will start to realize what it is to be true to your profession. While other professions can loan a trick or two from the repertoire of an elementalist, to be used at a moment of need, only an elementalist primary is able to stack spell upon a spell, blow upon a blow, unrelentingly as long as necessary.

Hmm...there seems to be a Mesmer lover here handing out negative cred.

Don't get me wrong, I deleted my 4th character so that I could make another Mes. :-)

I totally agree with that. Thats a good advice to follow, very logical.

I have the same problem now (N/Me; Wo/Mo; Mo/E; E/R) and I probably will delete the Ele, because the Monk is always useful for the guild farming together, same for Worrior and the necro is just a sentimental question. However he might drop away further on.

Well, to me its all the same. Obviously it isnt to others, but all down to opinion. You still get the same skills and what not. Of course you only are about 40% feel of your second proffesion.

I can use my Ranger as a monk, my ele as a necro and warrior as a low energy mesmer :D Means I can play what I want really - Note I said 40% earlier, meaning it isnt the same excactly, no.

Re: To delete or not to delete...

Thanks a lot for the replies, guys. They surely give me an inspiration :)

At first, I thought of waiting for ANet to release an update of some sort, to expand the number of character slots, but someone told me about an interview with one of the ANet guys, and it seemed that they didn't have any plans to add that in future updates (save Chapter 2).

I've also played as a secondary Ele (with my Monk), and found that Ele spells cost a lot more Energy more often than not (as a Ranger, that feeling truly shines :P).

I also decided against deleting my Ranger, since I'm most comfortable playing with her, and feel connected with her more than the rest of my characters (10 signs of GW addiction?)

As for my Warrior, I decided to keep it since, well, if I ever needed to vent my frustration by bashing a couple hordes of trolls, than she's my gal. And as for my Mesmer, I decided to keep her for the sake of fashion :P

So, I've decided to scratch my Monk and went about it before I could change my mind :P The primary reason was... I never felt like I was a great healer. Sure, I could heal my team properly (in PvE, since I don't really like PvP), but it never clicked with me. Don't get me wrong, Monk spells are great (hence it became all of my secondaries), I guess I'm just not a healer-type of girl :P

P.S. It's odd that I rated some of you with +creds, but the result is -creds in my screen. Is the rating system takes other people's ratings of that post as well?

Once you've rated someone's post you get to see the net result of all ratings to that post. If you've just given someone a +2 for example, and the Rating shows a lower rating, then some other people apparently felt that the post deserved a negative rating. The same thing if the Rating turns out to be higher than your +2.

I'm glad you got your difficulties sorted out.

Re: To delete or not to delete...

I feel the same way about my four lvl 20s. I have so much invested in them and they are very comfortable to play. Sure wish the storage was larger so I could use the different custom armor for one elmentalist with another. Otherwords, be able to have a change of armor for air/earth/fire or whatever.

Re: To delete or not to delete...

Only 4 slots is pretty unfair!!

I have 3 ascended chars atm:
W/Mo - prime char..turned farmer after the update
E/N - second char, my first spellcaster in games
R/Me - 3rd char, extremely technical, just love to interrupt

I made these combinations merging fun factor and skill unlocking, right now I got 2 elites left to cap. All Ele skills are unlocked.

Then..Ive dropped a Mofo Axe, I decided to make a "evil" W/Ne, just for kicks..But..I enjoyed so much playing it that I even bought a 15 dragon set for him. And now..I got loads of unlocked skills and upgrades to mess with in the PvP but cant used them cos I got no slot left *sighs*. I got 3 chars to unlock skills (Im saving then for the chapter 2) and one slot who is in use atm..

Luckily I could afford another another ACC, but this is used to PvP only..so few skills and upgrades to date, since I got 500+ hours in the RPG mode..

I believe a fair number of slots should be 6.

Re: To delete or not to delete...

IMO, deleting is always a bad thing. I deleted my level 20 Ranger to create a necro. (after being a monk for so long I liked the idea of trying a monk battery class) After that got old I was really yearning to use my ranger for trapping. Needless to say the end result is I finally bought a second account and am currently rebuilding my ranger. As far as slots go, they should seriously realize that with 6 classes there should be 6 slots. It doesn't seem very fair, however if you counterbalance the fact that you don't have to pay monthly online fees, in the end you come out the winner anyway.

Re: To delete or not to delete...

I, too, had this dilema. I just bit the bullet and bought a 2nd copy of the game. Have 2 mules on the 1st account. Playing with 4 other ideas on the 2nd account.

I have also decided to bite the bullet some more and placed an order for the 3rd copy, sigh.

Hey, it is my way of telling anet they have a good product. Aside from that I bought an account each for my 2 teenagers.

All in all, I have purchased 5 copies of this Wonderfully Addicttive, Sleep depriving, think about it during work, sleep and dream of the underworld trying to solve the Gwen problem game.

I just didnt have the heart to delete characters that I spent a considerable amount of time with.

:-)

Well, the closest thing I've heard about this is that 1UP/CGW interview that mentioned that additional character slots would be introduced at the next instalment of the game. IMO, that means Chapter 2, which is scheduled for release in the first half 2006. So, putting two and two together, I'd say additional character slots would be introduced some time around June 2006.

Now, Chapter 2 is said to have more professions, so I'm guessing that we will still have the same problem, i.e. number of charactere slots are less than the number of professions, so people with money to spare could buy more accounts.

Y'know, it'd be nice if ANet would at least give the option to buy additional character slots (at a reasonable price, of course).

Re: To delete or not to delete...

After some consideration(1) and a permission given by my spouse (took some effort to get that :) I finally bought a second account earlier this week, for the same reasons that other people have stated here. I hadn't been to newblands (no offense intended) for ages (my 'youngest' PC on the first account graduated somewhere around mid-july) and it was an exhilarating experience to be able to run around the lush scenery again, feeling like one was given his halcyon days of youth back. And an experienced player does not find pre-searing Ascalon a dull place at all but even more fun than on the first time. Hey Rurik! You with that barbecue stick of +5 badly charred pork chops! Wanna know where Althea told you to shove those gifts of yours? Do an express job as long as you still have one left, lmao!

(1) the major selling point being how much money I would have already spent had I originally bought WoW instead
