UT2K4 Training Session

Please post your thoughts on the UT2K4 Training Session Event. The more feedback, the more organized our staff will be for the event. Also feel free to mention any suggestions you may have for the event. If they're good, we'll be sure to implement them.

If the event goes smoothly, we could implement it on a regular basis which could cover different game modes as well as allow us to implement new features and functionality to its viewers.

Re: UT2K4 Training Session

I think it's a great idea. It's always good to have examples to help others become better players.

I am a semi-nerd! It's true!

Re: UT2K4 Training Session

Sugestion,

The external pro commentary is great but I would like to hear from the people actualy playing the match, basicly after every Frag or 2 have the players add there 2 cents. I would love to hear what they were thinking during the encounter. I want to know why they jummped left instead of right, was it because they knew something about the others tactics, or maybe on a gut instinct.

Anyway, again great thing to be doing.

Re: UT2K4 Training Session

There's a possibility for a post-writeup from the players, however the players simply can't stop during the match to say what they were thinking, or they'll lose the mentality. Which is kind of important in the midst of a heated match.

Honestly though, the reason there is a commentary is because if you've played competitive 1v1, you generally know what the other person is thinking. You actually know what the opponent is thinking while you're in-game too. However its just a lot easier to reckognize when its viewed through that person's eyes. Our commentators should do the players justice when telling the audience what they were thinking.

It's a skill to play the game, but its yet another skill to explain how you play it. Its yet another skill to generalize it to someone who doesn't understand the complexities of what you do. It's rare that a player has all of the above. If playing is instinctive for you, its hard to tell 'why' you did something, you just do it. However, we're pretty comfortable at this aspect, and hopefully we'll do our fine players justice.

Re: UT2K4 Training Session

yea hearing it through the palyers' points of view is an interesting idea... but doesn't seem like there's an obvious realistic way of doin it yet...

but there's always ways to improve ideas like this... so if anyone has any suggestions or thoughts feel free to toss them out...

Re: UT2K4 Training Session

well when it was first announced we wanted to see what the response would be... now it's just a matter of planning...

we certainly have the resources to do this, but just need to sort out the logistics of it all... what day/time is good to have the 5 minimum staff we'd need AND be good for people who want to watch/listen? who is going to do what in the event? which servers for each element of it are we going to use? are we going to just do it all in 1 night, or space it out periodically to cover specific maps or details each time or what?

these are just a few of the things that all need to be set before it can happen, so just sit tight and we'll get them all organized as soon as we can... it's good to see people expressing interested though, so at least now we can proceed knowing that people will be there to watch...

and of course as always, if anyone has any suggestions feel free to offer them up...

Re: UT2K4 Training Session

well i'd say a good place to start is to throw out some times/days

in general, my guess would be that a friday or saturday evening would work best, as far as letting the most amount of people be there... maybe like starting around 9pm EST? just somethin i'm throwin out there...

the more feedback we get the more we can organize this around what everyone wants...

Re: UT2K4 Training Session

well if it helps my game like 1 percent then its worth having the event :P cant see any real reason to not have an event like this.

Re: UT2K4 Training Session

Re: UT2K4 Training Session

Vee Shall See!

That is the plan, right now demos w/ audio commentary and having the event serve the same purpose, we'll just have to see which one the community favors more.
