When the 2 day head start begins, how do i access the live servers, do i go through CoH? or do i go through the CoV Updater?

I have not seen them say yet. I asume they will make an anouncement or send us an email soon. If we have to download all over again I hope they let us do it soon 'cause I have been having nothing but trouble downloading the beta.

wont they probably give us stuff to download off the DVD/CD??? that would make sense to me, 1 link for CoV, one for CoH, but i heard it asks you what you would like to make.

My guess is that you can get at it though COH...that's what the 1.6G of download for COH is. Did you notice the 12 slots available now on the COV test, and that you can make heroes if you want? I imagine it will be something similar.

I hope you are right C. Because if we all start downloading 1.6G on oct 29 (or 30) we will bog the system to a halt, and we will spent our two day headstart with downloading.

I'm sure it will be on the live servers since after it starts that is where your villain will need to be. Wouldnt make much sense to do it on test then have to move your villain over (somehow).

Ok so i have a few questions. I lost my CoH cd a long while back and i had to go to the client server and redownload it. Now my file that I play on isn't labeled CoH, but instead its labeled CoHUpdater. Now I tried downloading the CoV test server into the CoH like it told me to in the email they sent to me. That was a no go and i had to download a seperate file that is named CoV(or H cant remember)updater. How exactly is this going to effect how i am supposed to play the game. Will I have to open each one seperately and hope that it works, because it would really suck if I had to spend 15 hours...again...to redownload all this crap. Thanks for listening. and hope for helping.

I read somewhere a while back on the official COH forums (can't seem to find it now) that you don't need the new cov cd/dvd to play the 2-day head start. I think what will happen (using my new MM powers of perception), is that you can use either the cohupdater (exisiting accounts) or the covupdater (cov only) program(s) to start up, and when your account is authenticated, it will know you're registered for the head start, and will let you into the new coh/cov world. Then if you log on as a hero, it'll bring up COH, and if you log on as a villain, it will launch COV.
Being an evil software programmer by day, it just makes sense to work it this way, because all you need is one dual-capable updater program to launch 2 different main applications. Of course, we might also have to download the whole COV production client as well, but since the covbetaupdater.exe is launching cityofheroes.exe to run the COV beta, I imagine it will be the same. It will also be easier for NCSoft to only maintain 'one' game, and let your account unlock certain portions of it, rather than patching 2 different ones that will need to be constantly synched up.

Muuhaahaa...I think I was right...for a change...
EDIT #2:
So I just logged into the COV test, and created a new toon. When it asked me hero or villain, I said hero, made them, and it dumped him into outbreak....viola, problem solved. If you download the 1.6 G update to COH, I think we should be good to go.

We will have to download the whole game again! I feel sorry for the folks on dial up...on broadband it took over 9 hours for me to download.

Now my question is this....What's the friggin point of preordering a game if we don't get the actual game BEFORE the retailers?
GameStop just announced the pre-order CoV will mail out on the 27th and everyone should get them anywhere from the 30th (sunday!!!! no mail GameStop guys!) thru the 5th of Nov (depending on where you live)! I'm sorry, that's kind of bogus when you are, again, supposed to be getting it BEFORE everyone else...retail goes on the shelf on the 30th, according to CompUSA, so why did I waste my money on pre-order if I could have just bought it on Sunday? (the helmet ain't that big of a deal, and since I've been doing beta, neither is the 2 day head start)
Yes, I know, we get to "download" the game from the internet and it's the same thing, all we have to do is upgrade the serial number after we get the game in the mail. But, that's going to be just about everyone in beta scrambling to try and download the whole game again before Saturday...and they still haven't said when we will be able to start downloading it.
My heart goes out to all on dial up.
Ok, my rant is over and I'll leave on an up note.....

Hello fellow Villains!
Here is a basic guide to setting up your CoV pre-order account.

If you already have City of Heroes and want to ADD City of Villains to the same account:
- Go to your PlayNC account where you should UPGRADE your existing City of Heroes account with your pre-order serial code.

I still don't think we'll have to download the entire game.
I think that the 1.6G 'optional' I6 download you get when you log off of COH is the download you need for COV. We'll need to download the new cohupdater file so it points at the right servers (i.e. the 'live' COH servers), but beyond that I think we will be ok.
If you look at the way the beta is running now, you'll see that the covbetaupdater is still launching cityofheroes.exe, and you can play either COV or COH, whatever you choose. I think the live will be the same. So just download the I6 patch when it's convenient, and there probably won't be too many extra patches to download friday night.
and...I CAN'T WAIT !!!!!!!

I clearly did not read through your post. Good thing you did :)
But I still have a problem. I got my pre-order box from a Best Buy store (not online). And since moved to London. Do I have to book a flight to Chicago to get my copy, or can I purchase a code online somewhere? (I don't mind losing the $10 of the pre-order, but I do mind missing one minute of playing time!)

i would "ASSUME" you can just buy any COV box (code) since I'm sure the box you would have normally picked up wouldnt be in anyway tied to the pre-order. before you do that if you have a receipt I would e-mail best buy to see if there was a way they could "validate" your receippt and let you get it from their website (assuming you want the US edition). Anyway i'm sure when i walk into the store for mine the box i get will have a "random" code like anyone else i doubt they have "special" codes on the full game to correspond to the pre order you bought, so even if you are out 10$ you are out none of the fun.

My understanding is that the $10 pre-order only got you the beta, the 2-day head start, and the helmet. Anything after that, you need to buy a full copy of the game. If you actually pre-ordered (confusing, huh?) the full game, they sent you the $10 box essentially for free. I read somewhere else that the ship dates from the stores will be 10/27 through 11/5...what!!! What do I do if I don't get my dvd edition by the 31st? Curses, foiled by Statesman once again!
