Alrighty, just to get some healthy debate rolling, what's everyone's opinions on what roles Stalkers will play in PvP?
I played as a stalker in beta, and here's what I've noticed:
-Stalkers are 100% hit and run artists.
-No hide = No chance.
-Melee enemies = suicide.
I hear everyone complaining about how Stalkers will dominate PvP and how "It's not fair", when from what I've observed, it's darn hard to PvP as a stalker in the thick of it. All the classes balanced out well in an all out battle in my opinion.
Discuss.

Hi, Immuno. I know this isn't your first post, but I haven't been able to welcome you yet. So...Welcome to the site, bubba. As far as your discussion point, I agree that Stalkers are at a disadvantage in PvP. I understand that they cause hellacious damage with their first hidden attack, but once they're seen, they'll be dropped. It's the same for Controllers in CoH. There were times that I dominated PvP with my Controller, but it was only when I could sneak around and attack from afar. When one of the damage dealers finally locked onto me, I was done. I predict the same problem for Stalkers.

Welcome to the site and a good debate to start...
Personally, I think the Master Minds are going to dominate in the PvP zones.
I know, I know...everyone says go after the Master Mind and his henchmen will fall, but, if you are in a sea of henchmen, brutes and stalkers...try finding the one little MM who is hiding around the corner with his camera angled so he can see you, but, you can't see him sending new henchmen when the old have fallen.
They are a mean powerset and they may be the squishy counter part of blasters, but, ya gotta find'em first.

I agree about the stalkers.
Some other notes. I think dominators can do really well when there are less people. I noticed some things I wasn't sure about during the event. Someone confused me and I couldn't target and heroes. Everytime I tried to attack it would hurt a random villain. So if you could hold and attack then confuse and attack they won't know what hit them. And if you are using plant they have mass hold and mass confuse they could do very well.
Also taunt works well. When I was taunted I couldn't target anyone else. And after having ice slick used on me I feal sorry for all those poor villains. I wanted to smash my keyboard.

Daring to stray a tad off topic, I was reading the CoV section on the official CoH forums, and found this Dr. Suess-esq story which I deemed too hilarious to pass up sharing. I'm not sure if you've all seen this before, but I sure haven't.
| QUOTE | Newby to CoH and CoV here (points to post count...). I love reading the boards and learning from others as much as possible. I think it was Bismark who said, "Any fool can learn from his own mistakes; I prefer learning from the mistakes of others".
Anyhow, there's someone over in CoV who is just a rabid anti-stalker. So much so that many of the class has put him on ignore. Most every post made will have a reference to them in a derogatory sense, with little or no logic to the ranting. No flames or anything, just wanted folks to know the background to this poem on the boards that totally cracked me up. Don't know if those boards are gonna be wiped, but this was just too good to let go away...
My respects to Knight_Templar, who worked this around an old Dr. Seuss favorite. It's an amazing parody!!
------------
HOW THE PECOS STOLE BETA
A Parody by Knight_Templar (Compliments to Dr. Suess)
Every Stalker
Down in Stalk-Ville
Liked Stalkers a lot...
But the Pecos,
Who lived just North of Stalk-ville,
Did NOT!
The Pecos hated Stalkers! The whole stinking class!
Now, please don't ask why. Perhaps he’s an [censored].
It could be that his head wasn't screwed on quite right.
It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were too tight.
But I think that the most likely reason of all
May have been that his heart (and his brain) were two sizes too small.
But,
Whatever the reason,
His heart or the talkers,
He stood there in Beta, hating the stalkers!,
Staring down from his cave with a sour, Pecos frown
At the warm lighted windows below in their town.
For he knew every Stalker down in Stalk-ville beneath
Was busy now, planning ganking mischief.
"And they're stacking their stealth!" he snarled with a sneer.
"Soon it’s Release! It's practically here!"
Then he growled, with his Pecos fingers nervously drumming,
"I HAVE to change stalkers, for release it is coming!”
For, tomorrow, he knew...
...All the Stalker girls and boys
Would wake up bright and early. They'd rush for their swords!
And then! Oh, the fight! Oh, the fight! fight! fight! fight!
That's one thing he hated! The Assassin strike! strike! strike! Strike!
Then the stalkers, young and old, would go down to the bay.
And they'd gank! And they'd gank!
And they'd gank! gank! gank! gank!
They would start on Masterminds, oh what a bloody feast!
Which was something the Pecos couldn't stand in the least!
And THEN
They'd do something he liked least of all!
Every stalker down in stalker-ville, the tall and the small,
Would jump out of stealth, with their AS already off.
And then, if they hit or they miss, the stalkers would run laughing their heads off.
They'd stealth! And they'd gank!
AND they'd stealth! gank! gank! gank!
And the more the Pecos thought of the Whole-stalker-gank
The more the Peocs thought, "I must stop this whole thing!
"Why for three whole months I've tried to play!
And I’m still getting killed, nerf stalkers. TODAY!
...But HOW?"
Then he got an idea!
An awful idea!
THE PECOS
GOT A WONDERFUL, AWFUL IDEA!
"I know just what to do!" The Pecos Laughed in his throat.
And he made a quick stalker. oh what a jester.
And he chuckled, and clucked, "What a great Pecos trick!
"With stalker and hide, I'll look like a real stalker tester!"
"All I need is to level..."
The Pecos looked around.
But since lag is bad, there was no spawns to be found.
Did that stop the old Pecos...?
No! The Pecos simply said,
"If I can't level my stalker, I'll just make up stuff instead!"
So he called his friend stalker. Then they went out to play
”If I watch him enough, I’ll know just what to say!. "
THEN
He took out his ‘puter
And loaded the boards
And he posted and posted and posted some more!
Then the Pecos said, "Nerf!"
Though he didn’t know Jack
As the Stalkers down in stalk-ville
Began to fight back!
But, you know, that old Pecos was so smart and so slick
He thought up some lies, and he thought them up quick!
"Why, my fellow little posters," the mean ol Pecos lied,
"The stalker class, its good with just hide.
"So I'm taking my toon to Bloody Bay, you see.
"I'll fix it up there. And I’ll own PVP."
Then the last thing he wrote
Was a guide on the boards.
Though he wasn’t level 15 at the time, the old liar.
On their boards he left nothing but trolls, and more trolls.
It was on October 22...
That the devs had a game
We will take Bloody Bay and carnage will rain
We will let people make heroes! Level 25!
They will all fight it out! Let us see who survives!
"Pooh-pooh to the Stalkers!" he said in a strange Pecos mood.
"They will see for them selves that we are all stalker food!
"The others will wake up! I know just what they'll do!
"Their mouths will hang open a minute or two, then they will all cry for nerfs!
"And the stalkers down in Stalk-ville will all cry BOO-HOO!"
"That's a noise," grinned the Pecos
"That I simply must hear!"
So he went out to play. And put a hand to his ear.
And he did hear a sound rising over the beach.
It started in low. Then it started to grow...
But the sound wasn't sad!
Why, this sound sounded fun!
It couldn't be so!
But it WAS fun! VERY!
He stared down at stalk-ville!
The Pecos popped his eyes!
Then he shook!
What a shocking surprise!
Every stalker down in Stalk-ville, the tall and the small,
Were playing! And dying! No godmode at all!
And the Pecos, with his Pecos-feet ice-cold in the snow,
Stood puzzling and puzzling: "How could it be so?
It came without tactics! Or with ungodly perceptions!
"It came without screaming, or gankings! Good Heaven!"
And he puzzled three hours, `till his puzzler was sore.
Then the Pecos thought of something he hadn't before!
"Maybe Controllers," he thought, "that’s the only thing left."
“Maybe Controllers will suck, they can not play!”
But a controller responded
“I killed 8 yesterday!”
And what happened then...?
Well...in Stalk-ville they say
That maybe, just maybe Pecos will shut up and go away!
And maybe just maybe
His heart grew three sizes that day!
And the minute his heart didn't feel quite so tight,
He kept playing his stalker, oh the delight
It wan’t godmode, He wasn’t quite right
And he...
...HE HIMSELF...!
The Pecos played a stalker all night! |

I don't know, i sorta like the whole stalker thing...and if you couple stalker with SR or something you could hold out ok in the thick of it i would think...
I did fine with PVE with my stalker although i have to admit in a PVP setting i might get my ass handed to me.
Honestly i'm holding off judgement until i get to play with everything when it goes live.
Just my 2 cents

Well, Baron-Samedi my MA/Regen Stalker ventured into Bloody Bay yesterday with SG-mate Desmond Doom (MM) to try our hand at some PvP. We took down a lonely Tanker, albeit with the help of some random Freakshow that just happened to be in the neighborhood.
Stalker's Hide is great here. I was able to stand right at the Heroes' Skyway City entrance without being seen. Funny story... A blaster came in and was standing by the ledge and I was hidden right next to her. I decided to see what my Assassin's Strike could do. My AS took her down to half health and she took off like a surprised rabbit. My enjoyment was short-lived, though, as when I became visible the police drone gave me an instant trip to the hospital. All-in-all, it was pretty funny to surprise that Blaster standing on her own turf, and it was worth the debt. (If a player kills you in PvP, you don't incur debt, but if something else kills you - like a police drone - you get debt.)
Then we decided to take on a lonely Controller, I think he was a Illusion/Storm. I couldn't get past Hurricane to deliver any of my attacks, and I was pre-Integration so I kept getting mezzed while trying to escape - once right in the middle of a group of Shivans. Finally got away, but it left me thinking that Controllers -- not Stalkers -- might rule PvP!

I agree about controllers (see my earlier post about dominators) I think that PvP will make many unused powers more used such as tactics (if it really can see through hide) and Hell's Fury won't go in till I get plasma shield. Break frees are a must as well. I think stalkers can do very well with a team but not the way everyone thinks. If you are fighting a team of heroes the stalker should not make the alpha strike. The team should go in then the stalker should sneak around and take out the defender hanging out in the back while the rest of the team is engaged. Then run and hide and repeat on the controller or blaster. also if a MM is in the group all of their hanchmen should attack the ones at the back so the heroes up front (tankers and scrappers) have no choice but to defend their defenders, controllers and blasters( and completly waste their time attacking things that can be resummonded) or let them die.
