What did you think to yourself as you first walked into Altlas Plaza or Galaxy Park?

There I was. Just sitting at my newly built computer, just finishing up the tutorial in CoH with my very first character. When came time to decide wether to go to Atlas Park, or Galaxy City, I chose Atlas Park. Then, it finished loading, I didn't think much of it. I walked up the stairs and a sudden feeling of awe came over me. I just sat there and said to myself "wow". There had to have been at least 20 heroes surrounding Ms. Liberty and about 20 more running around City Hall. I said to myself, "This is why I got this game, this is why I pay the fifteen dollars a month". And it has been totally worth it. Just all of the heroes, the people, it was just an incredible feeling. What did you feel like when you first walked into Atlas Park or Galaxy City?

First day in the life of a COH superhero

i picked Atlas park as my starting spot, and i saw the many heroes hanging around Ms liberty and then think to myself oh dear, i going to have a problem with finding any foe to fight. Much to my surprise i saw that there was plenty of foe to hunt! I was even more surprise how quickly i went from level 1 to level 6 within 8 hours! Unfortunately just as i reach level 6 i was met with the harsh reality of XP debt when i decided to try out KING'S ROW zone and got ambushed by 3 level 8 minions and went to the KING'S ROW hospital and have to skillfully move my hero back to Atlas park without getting killed by the king's row minion. So in conclusion the first day in the life of a COH superhero was totally awesome.

Re: What did you think to yourself as you first walked into Altlas Plaza or Galaxy Park?

I got started a little late in beta so when I first hit Atlas Park I was definitely overwhelmed. There where already a ton of people hanging out at Ms. Liberty who where hoving, flying, teleporting, super speeding/jumping and using all manor of really cool spells and effects. I was recruited into a group before I even figured out power bars and had to kind of learn the basics on the fly.

It was a fun night though all the same and pre-ordered the game as soon as I logged out hehe.

Re: What did you think to yourself as you first walked into Altlas Plaza or Galaxy Park?

I chose Galaxy City on the advice of my friend who played through the Pre-Order Beta, because of the smaller population size. I remember looking at the Back Alley Brawler and being awed at the sheer girth of the man who would train me along my path of the Anti-Hero. I remember looking around and seeing all of the costumes of the people around me and being dumbfounded and a little ashamed of my rather basic costume. I got over that quickly though, and headed to my first contact and began my career.

Wow... Then I spent a lot of time running around Atlas Plaza and inside the building, chatting up all the NPC's and other heroes I could. Then I started exploring the world guided by my contacts and their missions, which I still do to this day...

Re: What did you think to yourself as you first walked into Altlas Plaza or Galaxy Park?

I started my first char in Atlas Park on the recommendation of my husband and his friend. I remember being awed by the number of other players. I couldn't get close enough to Ms. Liberty to click her. I was very impressed with the whole plaza and its statues. After all of that, I was a little disappointed by the interior of the city hall. I mean, it is cool and detailed. I think it was the lack of things to do inside the hall more than the graphics. But really, the number of players in Atlas Plaza still amazes me.

"how do you fly?"

you get the power pool set, begin w/ hover (or air superiority) then at lvl 14 you can pick fly.... the slowest travel power, but it is great b/c you get to see the city from above

Hehe, yeah I know how to fly, and yes, I do hate it. In fact I dont play my lvl 35 anymore because of how much I dislike it and because of how slow it is compared to all the other travel powers.

Anyways, what I ment was, thats what I thought when I fist got into the game. I just wanted to fly, lol. I remember in the tutorial pushing all the buttons on my keyboard trying to figure out how to do it. Thinking back now, I feel like an idiot.

Re: What did you think to yourself as you first walked into Altlas Plaza or Galaxy Park?

I was over whelmed, I started playing COH the day it was released to the public, and still when I got to Atlas Park there were tons of other characters there already.

And in response to the flight power statement above. It was one of the first travel powers one of my characters took. And I have found flight, although slow, to be useful. However, I have to admit that when I took it's precusor hover, I was a bit disappointed. I remember working so hard, at least it seemed hard the first time I did it, to get to level 6, running up to Ms. Liberty to train up and taking hover. Once I got it, first thing I did of course was try it. I hit the space bar to fly straight up, 10 minutes later, I finally cleared the top of Ms. Liberty's head. Needless to say, a bit of let down.

Two things that I think need addressed in this game, first the way travel powers are implemented, they should come much sooner in my opinion. And secondly give the supergroups the guilds they need to really be a supergroup. Nothing fancy, just a meeting place and a vault.

Re: What did you think to yourself as you first walked into Altlas Plaza or Galaxy Park?

My first character did not take a transportation power, in fact I picked hurdle, which is lame, and I ditched her around level 9. I could not stand running up and down fire escapes and not having access to more than half of the buildings in King's Row. Now that I know that you can jump up window ledges, I have gone back and levelled her a bit.

Still, transportation powers are very useful. I remember getting stuck in Argosy Industrial Park for hours because I could not figure out how to safely get out of there. I would eventually find someone to take out the higher level bad guys near the underpass and make a run for it. There should be a way for the game to determine that a character is the first one created on the account and force that person to choose a transportation power as their level 6 power.

flying

flying was the first movement power i had ever grabbed and so far is the only one any of my characters have gotten beyond the first power of the set for (im working on that lol). i have watched in awe as my friend's tanker super sped around the building looking for the last bomb, but i think nothing will beat the first time i activated fly and proceeded to bounce around in my chair at the screen like a giddy schoolgirl as i flew around steel canyon. so it may be slowest, but outside of porting (which being a druid from eq i am used to doing lol) flight is the least obtrusive movement power. also, its just cool to fly =)

Re: What did you think to yourself as you first walked into Altlas Plaza or Galaxy Park?

and w/ fly if you are high up in the air you turn auto pilot on and you are free to chat away, to those that are running trying to find places they can get over walls and what not..... and i have always HATED stairwells, and what not, but since i got hover (at lvl 6) i've never had to use them ....oh and the best way to bail from a fight you are loosing is to hit fly and the space bar... unless the baddie has flight you will be out of range in no time and don't have to worry about running into another mob of meanies when you are not at full life

Re: What did you think to yourself as you first walked into Altlas Plaza or Galaxy Park?

When I first started the game, I was in total awe of the detail that went into the game. Since this was my first actual massive online game, I really didn't know what to expect. I had played the other hero game, but, you only got a bird's eye view of what was going on and it wasn't online (I think). I'm still spending a lot of time just looking around and discovering new things I didn't see before and am still amazed at the detail that has gone into CoH, it's still just as mind staggering as the first time. I also spend too much time just looking at the other heroes and see how creative everyone is with the costume designs and the names that go with them.

Re: What did you think to yourself as you first walked into Altlas Plaza or Galaxy Park?

I have played UO, EQ, Earth & Beyond, Eve, SWG, & Anarchy Online . Although I likeed each one, none of them held my intrest form more than six months. When I first started each game I was amazed by the graphics and the playability of each game. However each game soon began to become a daily Grind session with no "Goal" other than to make money, level up, or build stuff.

With CoH when I first looged on I again was in awe. But after a few seconds I realized that CoH was different. CoH is a game that is made to be played and have fun. I could tell from the giant statue of Atlas that this game was different. True effort had been put into it. From the custumes to the powers to the cityscapes I could tell that many manhours (person-hours if you want to be PC about it) had been invested. If the quality level and commitment maintained I see a great future for CoH.

Re: What did you think to yourself as you first walked into Altlas Plaza or Galaxy Park?

Hmmm... my first time visiting Atlas park with my character was like "HOLY....Whoah!" The sheer number of people hanging around Ms. Liberty, or partying, or running through City hall was just astounding. And the graphics were amazing, I couldn't believe the depth and detail, not to mention the collosal statues that are scattered about through the city. Even to this day I'm still awed and shocked by the variety of people and heroes to be found within Paragon city limits.
