Girls in GW?

Hey girls
I would like if you could write a little something about why you play the game, and how much time you use on it...
This topic is mainly for the girls to answer but guy's youre welcome too.

I love this game. Why? One reason, because it is a graet equalizer. It dosnt matter your age, sex, class, nationality, shape, size, or back ground. It brings people from all over and lets them work in teams for a common purpose. The only thing your judged by is the way you treat others. And if you like to go solo, theres always the henches. I was thinking of starting a topic on what you love about this game. I would like to hear what others have to say. Its a great game.

I play becuz i like the game :) And I know for a fact that alot more girls play then what ppl think, it's just confusing since lots of guys play with female char lol

I've liked MOOs and MUSHs in general because of the social aspects, but since I'm, well, TERRIBLE at LARPing, I like GW because I can be me, all annoying and cutesy me, while still playing a game, and meeting some cool people while I'm at it.

That being said, I don't play much PvE with others outside of my guild yet. (I haven't finished the game yet either) I still need to kill Thunderhead (farthest I've gotten with henchies is to the second full wave of Necros after the second boss) so one evening I plan to hang out there screaming "R/N lfg with good leadership. I promise to do what you tell me!" and see what happens!

I really enjoy PvP since as has been said, it's about skill and thought and preparation, along with a dash of luck thrown in to keep things interesting. Even random PvP since that's about trying to balance yourself against all unknowns. (I'm bringing up a baby W/Mo as my third char to unlock PvP skills since I get into too few random groups with a good control Warrior)

My Ranger that needs T-head and will follow instructions is Einya Lynn in case anyone loves leading that mission so much they want to seek me out! :) and she can swing Mesmer too (was my original secondary) in case that tickles your fancy. I just like being R/N right now for SF corpse control.

GW is my first graphical MMORPG (or whatever the term they use nowadays). 'Graphical' being I've played a MUD before and in a sense, it's some sort of MMORPG as well.

I mainly picked GW because I wanted to try playing an MMORPG, but I didn't want (still don't :)) to shell out my hard-earned money just to play a game that I won't have much time to spend on (I work for odd hours at times).

It turns out that GW is worth every penny, and more. I'm hooked to it and I try to play every night, unless I'm too tired :P But lately it's been quite boring. I don't get to really meet people much there. Usually I try to level my characters up and go through all the missions with either henchies, or PUGs, which aren't known to be the best groups to socialise with. :)

Anyways, people in Gameamp here seem like a good bunch. Y'all are free to contact me if you wanna hang out or something :)

There is a girl in the Guild I am in, she is an Officer, well at least that's what I'm told, she's a girl, but a friend of hers told me she is actually a HE. So I'm confused, and that guy/gal won't give me his/her name, so I will never know, LOL. But yeah, at least there is a "girl" in my guild.

I count the girls in my guild and i saw that i have 4 girls in my guild and i know a lot more from other guilds so i think there are more girls on GW then ppl think.

If I may intrude...I dont realy see much of a point to this thread. Why does it matter if a female plays a game designed for anyone? I mean this is kind of like asking how do african americans like the back of the bus. Or, How do italians enjoy being stereotyped as mobsters. Honestly i just dont see any relevence to this thread and guildwars.

BTW: Please dont mind the examples, I only went for the most disrespectful severe examples I could come up with. I in no way shape or form agree with them at all. And in turn had no intentions of offending anyone

The perpose is, thats i'll get more knowledge about why they play the game, because I would like to know.
And so i'll see for my self that they are'nt that much different from us guy's... the play for the same reasons as us.
So I can't hornestly see why you have to knock it down.

Sp00ns request for insight and this thread have so far been way more benign than any "interest in girls playing games" thread I've seen so far on any fan site while not part of some thinly veiled college project.

Sp00n simply has not resolved this issue for himself yet and is politely trying to enlist some aid on this subject. In that it's no different from any other question posed on for instance, how to get past Thunderhead Keep. The fact that a lot of other people have solved this issue, for themselves, doesn't demerit his quest for insight in this matter.

Thing is, I don't find this type of question, why do women play these male oriented games (and if you don't think GW is male oriented, look at the female char costumes), disrespectful. Though y'all are right, people tend to be only academically interested in the answer, but I will answer it always in the hope of it getting into the heads of the people who put up the initial funding of these games.

I like video games, I grew up with video games, I like people, I grew up with people, online gaming merges the two.

What I don't like is the gross sexualization of the female characters in these games (hello, female ranger dance anyone?). And if I hate it that much, why do I play it rather than boycotting? Because it's my personality to work from within to change something I don't like. I'd rather there be such a female population in these games that the developers would see it as beneficial to the bottom line to include non-whore looking females, than a mess of stereotypical angry feminists buring copies of the game in protest.

Anyone ever play Uru: Ages Beyond Myst? (sigh, dirge for Uru Live) There you could make a female avatar that didn't look like she was going out pole dancing in an hour. I love that game, no matter how much of a head-smacker it is (you think T-head is hard? bah! at least you know what you're supposed to do! Man I still swear over Path of the Shell), in part because I could finally play a female character that looked normal (hell, she could even wear glasses). And that's something of an unknown in other human avatar games.

For some reason, guys don't belive there is so much girls playing gw or any other game like MMORPG,FPS, RTS,...

There is guilds that are for woman gamers only, magazine and website. Like this one : http://www.ladygamers.com/

There r tonz of girls that play guild wars, I am one of them the only thing i am tired of is guy players saying things like "the only girls that play this r fat and 50 years old" and "we all know u r a guy faggot" those r the kinds of things that make playing not fun. So if u guys ever see a girl player please don't make weird comments like that, it happens to me too much.

I completly understand. And i am not boycotting it. Nor am i saying his question was a bad one. I just didnt see the whole point. In my opinion the whole "sexy dance thing. And beutiful beyond all recognition factor. Comes form the fact that bunch of nerdy guys made the game. Not trying to sound like a stereotyper myself. But its a fact. I myself am a nerd. But I dont get off on making every female hot as balls either. Hell, id love to have a big butch scary warrior. But that will never happen.

I have a women friend who plays this game too, actually she made me play the game... i'm in no way using this thread for anything the satisfying my own brain.

Because I don't belive that it's only a guy's game, for girls can play aswell as guys, actually my friend she plays better then me, I have nothing then respect for girls playing this game.

I just wanted to give you, girls/woman a voice for me to hear.

I love GW! I'm a unique female gamer. I've got Gamecube (love & played all Zeldas), PS2, XBOX, and also play Diablo, Neverwinter Nights, etc etc etc...

My boyfriend has no complaints on me since he's a gamer too! We love to play together and compete together lol!

my girlfriend is a gamer at heart, she just represses it because it is not "feminine". I'm bringing it back out of her, though, because I like to be able to include her in as many of my things as I can. We've already got our goals set on buying a PS3 between the two of us. It would have been xbox360, but I like the stuff that comes out on playstation better.

As for GW, my girlfriend doesn't play, and I don't think she will. It's been forever since even I have had an opportunity for some real gaming. I hope I can get some done soon!

Well, I'm a man playing with a female ele character, and a father of two girls that also play the game. I don't know if it's because of my age or what but the fact that all options in the wardrobe of my character begin with the word 'skimpy' occasionally bothers me. On the other hand I can think of it as a strategic advantage in PvP where the slighest bit of distraction may provide crucial for scoring a win, and in this respect the female ele provides ample opportunities :) I would be delighted if there were more options for armor outlook, and more variety in body shapes (I would opt for a more 'aunty' look because that's how I feel in a party of hyperactive teenagers).

According to my observations, my daughters play the game because (a) it's fun and (b) challenging, and © you get to meet new people (most of whom are about the same age but opposite sex) and chat with them. It's funny to see them play with their twin monks (they have identical characters one on each account and they are going through the game together) since it looks to me that they use about 75% of the time when they are going through a mission by chatting on the guild channel or whispering to each other (although they are physically only a couple of meters apart), only slinging the occasional heal or protection towards the rest of the group when absolutely needed. Speaking of character models, they seem to swoon over male rangers, so apparently there's something worth looking at in the game for gels, too.

Edit: Oh, and I totally hate that jiggle dance of female eles. It's just so ... undignified.

i've read somewhere that statistically girls play online games more than the other games because it's simply a more social and accessible game. i know a few girl gamers where i come from, and while most of them don't play as much as i do (too much) they're always up for a game of halo or GW.

i don't see the big deal, in fact i think maybe the reason that a lot of guys don't realize how many girls there are online is because this is not a game full of insults. i play CS:S from time to time and there's always people bagging each other out. in PVE there's never that, because you're not in competition with other people, and in PvP people are too focused on not getting killed to swear at each other. it's great that a game as big and popular as GW can have such a mellow player-base. i've only seen one person who's been directly abusive, and i've been playing for a while now.

I've heard versions of this a few times. But I don't understand. When PvPing do a lot of people have their viewing angle so tight they can actually see the skin the other side is wearing??

PvP, PvE I've got my viewing angle as wide as possible so I can keep an eye on someone sneaking up in two ways (the screen and the mini-map). I can tell what someone's primary is, but in no way can I tell what their char looks like.

I'm an avid gamer and have been for most of my life. I am female as well. Though I haven't had any guys, in game, talk down to me....they know I could outdo them in just about any RPG/MMORPG. ^.^ I enjoy games, and no bad mouthing male will ever stop me from playing! :D I've actually gained a ton of respect from the men in game. They start talking crap....I dish it right back without mercy. lol I think more females should play, and more men should show some bloody respect in game to females. It would make it muchg easier for all.

There are quit alot of girls playing gw since there r several female guilds out there and i would say alot more of you in diff guilds as for guys being ignorant well thats just some as there will always be, its unfortunate but ignorant people will always be around no matter wat your doing.

Well i dont mind the tread.
Im 39, not quite 50 yet and im not fat. lol
I love gameing, all kinds of gameing, always have.
Right now where down to the pc and xbox. Son went to college and cleaned us out. :) But my husband is a gamer to, so we have a blast. His taste in games is diffrent then mine, but thats ok. We still have quality family time killing each other on Halo. lol
One day hope to get Dsl so we can go Xbox live.

Sorry if my thoughts seem scattered. Im suposed to be working.:)
