Improves casting speed?

Ok, here's a question. When an item says "Improves casting speed using Healing Prayers (Chance:20%)" what effect does the 'using Healing Prayers' part have? Is that how it determines the chance percentage or what?

Re: Improves casting speed?

when using a skill that is based upon healing prayers, that particular skill at that particular time has a 20% chance to cast faster

Re: Improves casting speed?

Ah, so it doesn't effect the casting speed of the rest of them, only the healing prayers skills? I always assumed that it meant it improved casting speed of all skills based on what level healing prayers you had.

Hmm hope you dont mind if i add a question to this, but how much faster does it make you cast a healing spell?

Re: Improves casting speed?

Well i dont know in seconds or anything. I just started using my lvl 11 ele and bought green Rago's wand and the kniderlock offhand. Which have increased casting speed and recharge speed. The difference from what i was using before (which had no speed mods)has changed alot. I can cast things very vast now and they recharge really fast also.

Re: Improves casting speed?

I have a staff that provides that particular skill, and sometimes I will cast Fireball or Meteor Storm and the spell is cast immiediatly. I also have a 20% recharge and when using Fire spells someimte they recharge immediatly. I love those skills.

I have actually used Meteor three time in the span of about 5 seconds...you could here the gasps of amazment through my cable modem....lol.

Its basic devision. Take a skill, the cast time of this skill. Devide it into percentages of 20. Thats how much faster. IE:Lets say skill 1 has a cast time of 10 seconds. 20% would in turn be 2 seconds. Therefore the skill would take 8 seconds as apose to 10.

If this is incorrecct please feal free to correct me.

EDIT:Just read more into this concept. Its 20% chance. So it doesnt give an an exact amount of time. Im sorry. My mistake. But wow a very good question by the way.

Re: Improves casting speed?

Improve Casting Speed when it happens causes the casting time to be cut in half. It's the same with Skill Recharge, the skill recharges in half the normal time.
Also all of the extend duration on conditions mods increase the duration by 33% and I assume the quick recovery mods reduce the time by 33%.

The 20% chance is that on average 1/5 of the time you will get the Improved Casting Speed and/or Recharge.

Re: Improves casting speed?

Actually, Rox, I believe the 20% means there is a 20% chance of casting that spell x times faster. What he is wondering is what the x times faster is.

And voidgere, are you saying that you have a staff that uses fire skills to fast cast or healing skills to fast cast?

Re: Improves casting speed?

I think GW_Ranger is right, that imp cast speed and imp skill recharge cuts the time in half. When the description says "using x skills" it does mean only with skills that have that governing attribute, like in the case of Fire Magic it would govern Flare, Fireball, Meteor Shower, and the like, but not Chain Lightning, Deep Freeze, or other spells. Note, though, that it appears likely that having a weapon and an offhand both with the ability stacks the percentage, but not the effect, meaning that with a 20%imp skill recharge wand and a 20%imp skill recharge focus you would have 40% chance of taking half the time to recharge a skill, but not any of taking a quarter the time.

Re: Improves casting speed?

Yep thats correct 20% of the time you will cast and recharge faster, Unless you have focus item which adds 20% then as Necro rebel said you have a 40% chance Of faster casting. Great odds for Balthazar aura and Symbol of wrath not to ention Metor shower :).

Question, would it in fact be a 40% chancce when in fact each item has its own perticular chance? Im not sayig it couldnt stack. But im asking if only one actviates would you still consider it 40% chance?. I mean you have 2 chances yes. But each is 20% so wouldnt you in all actuality have somewhere around....a 30% chance?

EDIT:Spelling btw. actuality or actualality?

Re: Improves casting speed?

If the percentages are simply added together, it would be 40% from 2 20% items (20+20=40). On the other hand, if there are 2 chances, each at 20%, it would still be 40% because 20/100 times the first one would be activated and 20/100 times the second would be as well, which again adds up. In that case, there would also be a 400/10000 (4%) chance that BOTH would activate, though it doesn't seem that this does anything in game if it does work this way (As I mentioned in the last post, there doesn't seem to be any occasions of quadruple-speed casts).

Re: Improves casting speed?

I think stacking completely depends on how the item percentages are set to stack.

IF say they stack but are both applied individually, with a wand and off hand of 20% each you'd get:
first item
20% chance you will, 80% you won't.
second item:
Add another 20% onto that and it's 36% you will 64% you won't.

IF they stack and are applied together (like you want them to stack) then you have a 40% chance you will and 60% chance you won't.

Senario two would be a heck of a lot easier to program.

And anyone's who's ever worked retail and has been told that they receive an additional x% off for the holidays knows that senario number 1 happens more often that senario number 2! :)

Re: Improves casting speed?

Sorry I expected the forum to imform me if this had a response.

**Lemme check my staff and see what it says exactly**

1)Improves Casting Speed using Fire Magic skills (20% chance)
2)Improves skill recharge times using Fire Magic skills (20% chance)

And thinking about it specifically, I only use these skills in combat when I'm not that intent on seeing how fast my skill recharge or cast. But, I have been in combat and have cast meteor storm/meteor and have it instantly come down on the enemey. I have also witnessed my Fireball spell cast immiediatly.

I will turn that particular function of my interface back on and test it.
