I think they are officially called "Stalkers." We were in Bloody Bay last night on Triumph. I had Crickit, my level 16 MA/SR scrapper. While we were taking out the turrets, some cowardly dog invisibly snuck up behind me and one-shotted me. I'm not sure if it's because their assassin's strike is so powerful or because SR just sucks, but either way I'll definitely be taking Tough. Hopefully that will help. And now I will be designing my guys with the thought in mind of beating the snot out of these sniveling curs. I wish I had gotten the name of the one who did me in, but I guess I will have to settle for a general revenge. Sissy stalkers, and all villains for that matter, you're on notice. :-D

LOL, when i was in Warburg I went looking around and rezz'ed some random person. . .then immediately after that a scrapper tp'ed me up to a building. .and tried to beat me down. . lmao. . I ran but it was fun, i know I pissed him off cause he thought he was going to get a kill. . .stalkers will get owned in PvP if they don't have SJ and SS to help them if they miss on their strike. I almost owned this stupid scrapper that was name calling and acing like a moron but i couldn't finish him off because off because of his SS and SJ

Tar patch and caltrops make SS and SJ useless and they are some of the best forms of defense from Stalkers. If a stalker takes damage he becomes visable and when visable all Stalkers are very squishy.

Oh, yes, Stalkers are sneaky. I know because I've been playing one! If we can get off our Assassin's Strike while hidden, we get something like a 6X damage bonus (something like a 24-24 Brawl Index!) The trouble is, as War Shadow pointed out, we are very squishie and any time we attack or get attacked we come out of hidin and need to get to higher ground quickly. And I really hate when I miss my alpha strike! That baby's always going to have at least 1 accuracy enhancement at all times. :)

Leadership pool should be good for stalkers.
Word of warning for heroes don't be suprised if an entire team jumps on you right after the stalkers alpha also don't lose them in a team fight 'cause they can run, hide and come back to stab you again.

I'm not sure if this is going to work for the new Stalker AT, but if you have Tactics on your toon you are supposed to be able to see through stealth powers. I know not everyone wants to put the Leadership pool on for just this, but if you are running in teams the benifit should help you all see the Stalkers trying to sneak up on you.
Does anyone know if that actually works for the Stalker's special form of Stealth? I believe they call it "Hide" on all of the Stalker secondaries.

I warned you on a previous post to beware of Stalkers :)
Stalkers are your worst nightmare, I dabbled a bit with one, woo hoo... poor ol' Heroes won't know what hit em' :)
And don't be fooled people about being shot in the back by only Villains, if you've been to warburg or most PvP zones then you know there are plenty of so-called Heroes who do the same thing, sneak in the shadows and attack from behind.
It goes both ways, don't hate villains for that, at least they have an excuse to be sneaky and devious... WHAT'S YOURS?...
(And don't say "because villains do" there was/is plenty of backstabbing and sneakyness from Heroes when they are only fighting eachother.)
Brrr... Heroes fighting other Heroes that still sends shivers through me...
Just wait till' the Masterminds and others arrive En Force... its about to become veeeery unhealthy for us Heroes in PvP... HAHAHAHAAA!!!!

Thanx Gon!
I really am interested in knowing if we can use Tactics to help with the Stalker "Hide" power. I can't get COV for a few weeks cause of money, but I have a lot of friends that are playing it right now, and cruising the PvP zones. I'll have them test it between our heores and villains.

Tactics will help you find stalkers but if they stack hide and stealth good luck finding them.

Do you have any respecs to use on the test sever if so have one of your villain friends copy over too and you can test it out. Wait do both the test severs connect like on the live ones?

On the lines of this post but a little different....was in a group the other day in Bloody Bay doing missions and we ran accross some Night Widow's...these dasterdly wenches actually invis'd every villian in site and our group was standing there like...WTF!!! Now, are they comparable to Stalkers in their Hide/stealth ability? Because, sometimes I could see these spiders when they invised and sometimes i couldn't. This was throughout the entire time we were fighting them. Some could see them, some couldn't. The only difference is, the pets (just like in a Hami raid) could always see them and kept attacking accordingly.
Not sure what/how this fits with the thread but, maybe something to look into when hunting Stalkers...bring pets and keep them coming.

That's a good point, the pets should target in on any hostile in the area. It makes me wonder, If I go to team up with a friend in a PvP zone, I might want to be sure I summon them AFTER I hook up and form a team....lol So far I havent seem Troller pet controlls added like Mastermind pets. So, I would be liable to have my Fire Imps attack my friend!
On the respec on test trick, that's a good question. I have a character that normally runs Tactics, so I don't need to change anything. My big question will be what I see with or without Tactics running when they standing close to you. I've got the test request out on my SG page, but none of them have anything high enough to get into the PvP zones yet. I'll have to get this tested and get back to y'all. Some of them should level pretty quickly. (I promised not to kill them after the test too..... Aspahalt Mage is a hair's breath from being a villain. He's only good to tick off his father. Long story........)
As far as the invised Spiders I saw mentioned, I know that they put in a Star Trek'ish de-cloaking when you attack. It's possible the spiders you did see were attacking or taking damage somehow. You may have also been testing my theory of Tactics or yellow inspirations giving you limited ability to see through stealth powers. Do you remember taking any yellow enhancements during that fight?
I would imagine that the spiders were just invis'd. Not using Hide from the Stalker power set. My reasoning is how you described them going invisible. Even though the power combinations were jumbled up a bit, they still used plenty of existing powers from COH. That one sounded like Group Invisibility that we know from the Illusion Troller set.

I havn't yet seen a Pet on a team attack another teammember on the same team so its perhaps safe to use your Pets.
However its still so new who can say for sure...
Devs may have another Nerf planned and that can go either way...
I did see a Stalker (or rather DIDN'T see) with hide on, we were in the sky together and I swear there wasn't even a shimmer, it wasn't a fight either, the person was just confirming that other players really couldn't see her, she didn't believe it. :)

I went into warburg and left before even sxploring the area. I don't like PvP much in general but all the ambushes is rediculous. I'm a blaster and a scrap with a tank ambushed me and almost killed me. Sissies... If you need someone else to take down a scrapper you suck. I used my tp to vulture them until they left. Karma baby!

Actually I ran out of every inspiration that i had during the first encounter, but throughout the remainder of the mission they did the same thing...fade in and out. They were the Night Widows, boss levels. I forgot to take a snapshot of their bio to post(means I have to go back...sigh...). It stated to the effect that they are dangerous..blah blah blah...and you will never see them coming. Sounded like the very description of the Stalker set. We would engage them in a fight and all is well, then the entire mob just vanishes, right before your eyes, then reappear. Once the Night Widow is down, the vanishing thing stopped.
If anyone wants to test this and maybe grab a screenshot of them, It's a mission that you get in Bloody Bay (not sure which one as I was not selecting the missions). It's timed and you have to collect 5 barrells and defeat all enemies in base. Honestly, this was the most challenging and invigerating fight I've had in...well, ever! It took real team work and a heroes attitude to finish. After team wipe #2 on the first mob...lol, some wanted to quit, but myself and the team leader rallied the troops and we finished the mission, with minimal deaths with just 3 minutes left on the timer.

Ok, here is the situation last night. I log on and my Empathy Defender is at the helicopter at Bloody Bay. I send out a broadcast to see if anyone needs my services. I get an invitation to join a team and accept. I find out they are attacking a villain base. I teleport over to where they are and start assisting where I can. Things seemed to be going ok, I am seeing player controlled villains for the first time and we seem to be taking them out. Suddenly my health drops to almost nothing and a red Assassin Strike appears on the screen. "Holy cow, what was that!"
Then I remember this posting and the damage that the stalkers can do. I quickly heal myself back up and it happens again. Aargh! It was able to be handled ok, because it didn't take me out with 1 punch. So I was able to heal back up each time. The problem just got worse when they decided to have two perform the sneak attack.
So, after I finished consulting the worms around where my face was planted, I decided to get airborne and avoid these attacks.
So, my question is this. What are the ways that we heroes are able to detect the stalkers before they strike. There has to be a way to counter that Assassin Strike. I would love to see the ways so I can start preparing my other heroes.
I love the xp that you get from these missions. I am coming from earlier levels and the xp here is much higher. I just need to be able to defend myself when needed.

Well, there are a couple of ways, speaking from the Stalker's point of view.
1) Keep moving. The Stalker's strike is interruptible so he can't use it while trying to follow you around. This way, the most the Stalker might be able to do to you is a regular Critical (2X damage) with one of his attacks.
2) Increase your perception. The Stalker's deadliest strike - Assassin's Strike - only does its mega-damage if done while the Stalker is hidden. If you can see him through his Hide power, you can get away, or attack him which suppresses his Hide power. Certain powers, like Tactics, increase your perception and may allow you to see the Stalker while hidden. The Stalker can counter this by stacking other concealment powers like Stealth to defeat your increased perception, but I don't think alot of Stalkers take this because the inherent Hide power is so good on its own. Maybe if the Stalker is going for some kind of uber-PvP build.
3) Attack the Stalker First - This will suppress the Hide. He will be seen and Stalkers don't have the hit points to enjoy being seen. You can attack the Stalker preemptively either by seeing him via your increased perception (see #2 above) or by having some kind of AoE attack going. The AoE will damage the Stalker even though he is hidden, and any damage, no matter how minor, will blow the Stalker's Hide power. One suggestion might be to stand in the middle of some caltrops.

Ah, good... haven't done any pvp yet but starting to cook up some ideas.
I'm a spines/regen scrapper, so AOE is one of my fortes. I use spine burst regularly, but will also have to get quills going - that should flush out any stalkers.
Is the Leadership pool effective enough to make it worth using up a pool slot to get tactics?

Only problem with the aoe thing is while stalkers are hidden they have a better chance of avioding aoe. Still not perfect but they can avoid it. But aoe slows like caltrops and tar patch will render them visable too.

The leadership pool is quite effective, but moreso for Defenders and Controllers and Khelds. The bonuses for other ATs are less. If you are really dedicated to PvP, or just have some extra power slots to fill, then your scrapper might want to pick it up. I'd go with Assault and Tactics if it were me.
