I know that many people out there are MMO junkies. They tend to join one, play until they are burned out, then find a new one. So I'm wondering what everyone's roots are.
My 1st MMO was UO. It was like crack and I couldn't get enough of it. After about 1 1/2 years of playing every day for at least 4-6 hours a day I burned out on it. It was a long while before I took up another MMO, but I did get hooked on City of Heroes (actually I'm still playing it now after a few months break). I've also tried but disliked Lineage2. The game itself was great, but the people that are playing it really just make me not enjoy the game at all.
And recently I've been dabling in Guild Wars, which is unlike any MMO I've ever played.
So what have been your expierences out there?

I still staunchly refuse to pay to play, and so I am currently still addicted to Guild Wars.
I started out with Diablo, then moved to Diablo2 which really got me into online gaming. I played D2 for something like 3 years or so. There was another one I played that really helped get me into it. It was called The 4th Coming. It was a free game like D2 and UO and I played it up till the point they charged a monthly fee for it. I don't know if that game is even still around.

Lets see....I played EQ1 for 6 years (Dwarven Cleric), played FFIX for a few months til EQ2 came out. Played EQ2 for a year (guardian and Dirge) but after thier first Expansion, I was so disgusted I canceled my account. Now I'm playing around with FFIX til Vanguard comes out. I also tried City of Heros and DAoC but didn't get into those really.
I enjoy a game where I can go out and kill stuff with friends and see the world in which I was made. And be able to craft in my off time and make all sorts of different things. And Vanguard will have both so I hope to be with this game for some years to come.

I started out on Diablo 1&2. I was like blackphoenix, and played D2 for like 3 years. Then I went to CoH and WoW for a year or so. CoV got me excited for about a week. It was just CoH in a dirty part of town. I am pretty much burned out on everything right now, and I cant wait till Vanguard comes out. I don't want to start another just to quit when Vanguard comes out. So I will just wait. Maybe read a book or two.
Embrace Death...then choke the $h!t out of him.

After joking around a bit in MUDs I started my real MMORPG life with Dark Age of Camelot. I played it for a year until all my in-game friends seriously outleveled me, and I couldn't bring myself to start afresh. So I switched to Anarchy Online and played that for nearly two years. I still consider that the best out there. But after two years it was time for something else. I am now for over a year addicted to City of Heroes (and City of Villains). And that game got me into an even more serious addiction called GameAmp. Hanging out here is often even more fun than playing the games.
Currently I am eagerly awaiting the release of Vanguard, but in the meantime I am playing RF Online (see rfonline.gameamp.com) and still a lot of COH/COV.

Hmmm, lets go back....way back...
Actually my first, was a girl named.....oh wait, wrong topic.
The Realm, was my first on-line game. Back then it was “Seirra On-Line” running the show, now it's Codemasters I believe. About the same time maybe a tad later I was also dabbling in Ultima Online. This all was a year or two before EQ's debut.
Fell head first into EQ about the summer of '99 or near the end. Then the MMO's seemed to come at me from all sides and I had to give in....Asherons Call, Anarchy On-Line, Dark Age of Camelot.
The sad thing was, I found myself at one time playing them all, at the same time. A little Diablo dabbling here and there, but stayed with EQ and finally put all the others to rest.
City of Heroes, Planet Side, Star Wars Galaxies, Guild Wars, and of course EQII since the last beta.
The being a “true junkie” for me was....oh this is so bad too, get a part time job because we were running 2 and 3 accounts of these games, the whole family were junkies. Spending $120- $180 a month for a gaming budget. I look back on that now and say WOW, that was just nuts.....but fun.

Wow, yeah, nuts....but fun. Have you kicked off since? What are you left playing? Still some EQ2? And how about the rest of the family? I now have this vision of how your house must look like. Three, four people glued behind PC's. A very clean kitchen which is only used to microwave stuff. Bookshelves full of unread fantasy novels. And nothing much else.

You been to my house???
yeah, I finally grew up...somewhat.
EQ2 is the only thing going, now that we killed Tagachi in GuildWars. We started yet another alt in EQ2, on a different server, just to get our fix as needed before VG.
Oh, and one semi-cluttered room ---> Computer Room, Mini fridge, hot plate, Microwave, Port-a-potty, closet full of twinkies.
Kidding about the port-a-potty, not about the twinkies.
