I've got a serious problem.
Ever since I moved to Florida a few months back, I'm finding myself liking Country Music more and more. To the point where I actually have *2* Country stations programmed into the presets in my car.
Is there some medication I can take to cure thing!?

I used to work at a country radio station for 9 years, the only cure is many friends kidnapping you and taking you to the hottest dance clubs in the area that DON'T play country music...a good steady dance beat is the only cure for the addiction of country music...and a few mixed drinks that have no beer in them is a nice addition to your body.
You have my sympathies for this horrid, horrid affliction and I hope you get over it realy quick. 8-)

As for country music the only reason I listen to it is because I can sing it. I find a song I like that is in my range and I practice with it when I hear it. If I like it well enough I buy the CD and listen to it until I nail it perfectly.
My head is a music library... too bad I can remember all those songs but I can never remember where I put the TV remote.......

i lived in your area for 7 years Ron and now i live in Georgia and it is even worse. i have fought it these many years by avoidance. every year though country sounds more like pop and harder to shun. i will say the best way to quench a country thirst and still feel good about yourself is to listen to johnny cash. his american recordings box set is very good.

Another possible way to get around this "country addiction" you seem to have, would be to drive a screwdriver through your eardrums...if you can't hear it, you can't be addicted.
By the way, I'm just kidding about the screwdriver thing...maybe.

Lets call that Plan B
Maybe you should just give into it. Put it on every radio that you are around until it makes you sick.... It should work fairly well I would think. How many times can you listen to " I cant get over you, until you get out from under him" and " This old truck anit worth a *@#& ?

Dance Clubs: A good suggestion, however this is South West Florida. Even the most thumpy techno dance clubs have Country Western nights...and I've never been much of a club fan.
Beer: I usually drink Malibu and Diet...which I found out was in a lyric to a Kenny Chesney song, "That chair was my bed one New Years Night when I passed out from too much Malibu and Diet, and I woke up to a hundred mosquito bites, I swear. I got em all sittin right there, in that old blue chair." So the non-beer drinks didn't help. :/
Singing: I've considered this, as I am a karaoke slut, I sing mostly rock, but country songs are really easy to sing, so I might start doing that and...as you say...give into it.
Screwdriver: Highball glass, filled with ice, 1 ounce vodka, fill with Orange Juice...or was it something else you were talking about?

By the way Ron, I noticed it might be too late for you. I see you have a toon named HoosierDaddy...
I am sorry to inform you that you have officially become a country fan. This may just be your lot in life. Sometimes acceptance is all that can be done.
Granted, drinking screwdrivers through your ears may be the start of a new country song.

County music can be very addicting. I myself caught the country bug a while back and now I listen to it more than any other kind of music. It probably has something to do with getting older -- the "pop" music just doesn't speak to our demographic anymore. Country music and classic rock are my tunes of choice - though it does surprise me from time to time whn I hear a "classic" that doesn't really seem that old to me until I count the number of years it has been!
Anyone ever hear the old joke about what you get when you play a country song backwards? You get your wife back, your truck back, your job back, and your dog back!

Im not sure drinking will help the problem seeing how after a few good ones everything starts to sound good. Do you listen to your CDs alot? If you are not to far gone you can crank up some AeroSmith!!! That should do it. If not I suggest Eric Clapton's rock version of Lela, not that toned down version that makes me want to rip my CD player out of my dash.

Alright, another non-country music listening Texan to help with his 2 cents:
Play lots of your favorite CDs that do NOT have county music on them or any ballads. I find that listening to industrial or metal helps. Making mix CDs or tapes (if you don't have a cd player) may help also. Keep a steady diet of those going in your car and you'll forget country soon enough.

Well, being a Bostonain myself, I've never been afflicted by this personal ailment. However, my accuantaince of many years suffered from extreme Folk Exposure (technical name: Bluegrassius Maximus) and I had to help him cope during the time period after the addiction. My suggestion: Listen to two bars of 'music' by Rascal Flatts. You'll never want anything to do with country music again. Like I said, I'm a true yankee, so nothing to worry about. Now where did I put that Pensylvanian Dutch Polka CD...

Umm, why would you want to not listen to the greatest music ever made?!? Country music is America.
Seriously, I have tried to listen to all types of music, but I keep coming back to country. Its is the most powerful music on the planet, except maybe classical. If, however, you really want to get away, goto Wal-Mart, and get an XM radio. They pick up friggin everywhere, and you get whatever kind of music you want, commercial-free, for 13 bucks a month.

I'm thinking I'll probably just accept my fate and give in. There's really no escaping it down here. Generally it's only "new" country that I like, with a few notable exceptions (Johnny Cash being one). At least the new country has enough of a pop tinge to it to be listenable.

Oh no. Yeah that really is a problem then, 'new country' is no different than Nsync. Same pop music with a country twang aimed at the small town people whos parents wont let them listen to anything else. Yup there is only one cure for that..

AHHH country run away!!! well Cash is good but, my suggesttion would just be move north we dont listen to country here. Why? because it is too damn cold to listen to whining other than about the weather. Otherwise just dont listen to anything but your own cd's in your car... I dont listen to anything on the radio aside from NPR.

Ding, add one more to the Texas list. And the only way to stop the country music is to avoid it like the plague. I had it pounded into my head growing up. Nothing beats some good ol' classic rock.
