Random acts of kindness

So I was playing my favorite game (Guild wars of course) and I was in another good mood, which happens alot when playing this game. When I get in a good mood I tend to sell VERY nice equipment for cheap.

Anyways I was in a lower lvl area and I was just standing around. These 2 Warriors were talking about swords and how they wish they could get a cool one, etc. So I check storage and find that I have a Gold fellblade, and a Gold Dragon sword. Neither of which are godly, but both max damage and the Dragon sword had some good stats. So I gave one a gold fellblade, the other a gold dragon sword, said enjoy and left in a flash.

It made me feel really good. And I plan on doing this more often. I recommend that with those items that are not good enough to sell to players, but too good to sell to merchants. Just give them away. I plan on playing some tonight and we'll see if I get some "Good Karma" drops tonight.

Im wondering if anyone else does this kind of thing? And if so what did you give away to someone you never even met before.

Re: Random acts of kindness

Im doing the same in Ascalon with weapons or items that I dont want to spend time on them to sell. And anyway, what is the point to sell them to a merchant to have 400g more if you already have more than 100K...

Making people happy is one thing I like to do in Guild Wars...

Re: Random acts of kindness

Forgot to say that I gave a lot of max dmg purple and gold bows, gold wand and staff, dragon sowrds...

When you ask someone to make an offer and they reply : whats the point in making an offer, I only have 500g and you'll never accept....Its knid a take a tear out my eye...so im usually feeling very generous. I never keep an item for more than week( gold or purple )... And I dont like the risk of screwing up the good mod with the salvage kit...

Re: Random acts of kindness

I pass out the freebies from time to time but have become careful about who they are passed to. One of the things I do is find someone who looks like they need it and suprise them with an open trade with pm of its free.

Also if I see that someone is working hard to get their stuff and only has a little left to get like, WTB 5-20 tanned hides I will act like doing a normal deal till the time of change over and say "they are for free".

As you said it does make you feel better and people normally are good but some are not. It is bad to see an item you gave to someone you thought needed it then to see them selling it overpriced. This does not stop me giving things away but has made me think more on who gets them.

Re: Random acts of kindness

Yes, I do that once in a while. I find it much easier and much more satisfying to give things away than to stand around for an hour shouting WTS. Mostly I just sell the items to the merchant, or salvage them.

The one thing that I don't like is beggers. I rarely, if ever (guildies and friends not included), give away items to people that ask for them. If you want something for free from me then you better be lucky enough to be around when I have something to give. I usually just advertise that im givin something for free and the first pm gets it.

The only items I make an effort to sell are those items that have a set price by the traders or ones that have a particularly interesting mod. For instance, I found a superior vigor once. The current going price at the trader was 38k so I sold it for 30k. That is the only instance where I might try to sell something.

Re: Random acts of kindness

Yeah one thing you dont want to do is give something to someone wearing 15K armor :)

Sometimes when Im trying to sell something, and someone shows interest I say I'll sell this for 2K. And they reply back Is 1,467 gold OK. I'll sell it for 500 and tell them not to go broke over the item. They appreciate that as well. You will know instantly when you give something away to someone who REALLY did want it, but cant get an item like that at the moment. They are usually very happy.

Re: Random acts of kindness

Well I have an interesting story that I will share with you about some events that happened to me.

I was on my Wa/Mo just visiting all the town to try to get some extra skills (didnt have ember light), and I see this guy talking about quitting Guild Wars and the game sucks and the like. So I pm'ed him and asked him why he was quitting. We got to talkin and I was like 'man that sucks to have someone leave Guild Wars...good luck to you in the future.' He said 'wait', and opened a trade window that were followed by 4 others. He gave me tons and tons of dye, some other salvage items, and 25k! I was like wow that is great.

So, a few weeks later, I ended up making a Ranger. Was doing some quests in Eden and I was trying to get someone to help me with the 'over the wall' quest. After about 10 minutes of waiting, this nice person pmed me and said "i'll help". I was like great! So we went and did the quests, while she was being as friendly as possible. We crossed together. I noticed she was a hammer warrior, so I told her to hold on. I went to storage, grabbed a gold max dmg hammer (req 8), with 10/8 sundering and h+30...and 20k out of storage. I gave it to her and said enjoy. This made me feel really good, helping out a newer player who was willing to help others...just perfect.

The morale of the story is to pay it forward. if you end up with a great person to quest with, chances are you will gain a friend and rewards to boot. Do not expect this every time, but it will pay off sooner or later if you are nice to people.

Re: Random acts of kindness

I enjoy running people places to free (It's a shame they nerfed droks run IMO) because I like it when people are cheering me on in my run and are very apreciating at the end. I gave someone a 10/7 sundering hammer haft for letting me run him and being a good sport joining in with me. I remember people helping me, so now I help others.

Re: Random acts of kindness

I normally play a ranger, and i have beaten the game and have every bow i want. One day while in ascalon i saw a ranger that was i think lvl 7 and asked if i could see his bow. Needless to say it was horrible, so i said hold on i will be right back. Went to storage and pulled out a new bow i just got. It was a max dmg gold horn bow (mursatt version) shocking bow string, 10/9 armor pentration, dmg +13% always. Needless to say he was shocked and tried to give me stuff, i was like naw man keep it your gonna need it down the road. He still pms me lol.

Re: Random acts of kindness

If someone is asking for any common materials like Need 5 scales, etc I always just give them over. If its a weapon I dont need Ill give it to someone usually if im on a mission I ask what everyone is carying, and if I have a better one I tell them to take it. If someone is 20gp short of there armour I will give them the money, and if Im heading out farming, griffens Ill run people to heros or seekers since Im out that way for free.

2 things I wont run people to droks if there under lvl 15, and I cant stand beggers.eg, Can someone give me money for armour (lvl 3 in droks or Citidel).

Random acts of kindness do pay off. I ran a guy to seekers after he let me farm first. on arival gave me 5k as a tip. As the old saying goes do onto others...

Re: Random acts of kindness

Man i hate scraping cool items. I usualy put them in storage and add items to them like bow strings and such and then give them away. I hate haveing to sell stuff. Guess it reminds me to much of work. lol
I usualy give items to ppl i team up with that seem to be good ppl. I love giving things away. Wish i could do it in real life.

I also like to help alot. Pointing people to the right directions and giving free stuff to guildmates.

Yesterday I was at The Amnoon Oasis, someone was asking where was Augury Rock, I read replies like : "Gimme 50k and I will tell" , "Go look for yourself" and the like, I PMed the guy and told him where it was. I don't know what's up with this kind of ingame behavior, selfish bit@#$#ches .

Re: Random acts of kindness

I dont do running anymore - got bored with it....but, back in the day when I was running people, I was at Yaks and advertised "Running to Beacons for x-amount" - whatever it was I dont remember now....this one guy whispered me and said "Can you take me for x-amount, its all I have". I said "Sure, dont tell anyone."....when we got to Beacons I told him to keep his money. Couple days later, I get a whisper from this guy and we get to chatting.... Since that time we have become each others closest GW friends, we joined the same guild and are now both officers on the guild...we farm Sorrows together, FoW, help each other with missions, etc etc.... Sometimes being nice to strangers can really pay off.

Re: Random acts of kindness

usually i dont give money or valuable drops away (as i never have any cash myself ;-p), but when i see a new player who is trying to sell an Ok/bad item i'll usually offer to trade them, pay them what they want and then right at the end give them a better version of it back i.e. one person was trying to sell a shield armour 12 in kryta and got the usual responses from ppl (not max armour, crap yada yada yada) and i got pming them and ended up sayin i'll buy it... then gave her a gold skull shield +8 armour vs elemental (i think).

Re: Random acts of kindness

Hey I am a newbie to this game as well as a newbie to most RPG's except Vampire the Masquarde I played that alot. Anyways I was in Ascalon this morning and I met this guy I really wanted to buy an axe but he was selling swords only. I had one platanium so I thought OK its worth it. I offered him what I had and he asked me if I needed anything else while I was at it. I told him about the fact that I really wanted to buy an Axe. So he gives me this 11-23 pick axe for free. I was like what? No way! Why? I offered him all my gold dye even some shield type weapons but he wouldn't take them. He then left never to be seen again. Later on I was looking for guild war tips online and I came across this site. I read a little and saw this post. I thought let me say to them what I didn't have time to say to him. You guys are what makes the game great. I mean here I am a stupid newbie (not really a total newbie, I actually built one character to 14 but I made the bone head move of making him a primary ranger and hated his wuss armor). So again I am a level 9 newbie starting over and people like you just come out of now where and make an offer to sell. In reality all you do is take the shirts off your backs and help out. You don't have to but you do and that means a heck of a lot to people like me. Your what makes this game worth playing. People who play a game they like and in apprecication of that do something to give back to the community. Nice Job people I really really tip my hat to you. Your freaking awsome!!!

Re: Random acts of kindness

Well, I usually don't give a lot of items away, but I give a few away, usually things I don't want or have a use for. I guess the highest value item I ever gave away was Thorgall's Shield. It was just sitting in my Ranger's invintory taking up space, so in LA i said: "Giving away Thorgall's Shield FREE to the first person to pm me.", except I had local open instead of trade. /doh
This warrior pm's me with "Bull", and I'm like "Oops, wrong channel". So he says, "Yeah, thats what I thought." So long story short, I tell him I meant to use the trade channel but its his if he wants it, so he does and I give it to him. Now for like one minute he's spamming THANK YOU SO MUCH in local. Any one know what a Throgall's Shield goes for anywho?

Re: Random acts of kindness

I think it's fun to help people out..

always when they smile I do too, just cause of i at least tried to make one person happier in a game where you get quickly bombed with the words ' noob, lol, moron ' and similar after you ask a question..

me on the other hand am not really that rich, and i used to be glad about every little 'k' i was able to maintain..

I more likely help players out on missions, or run them for free around trough the desert.. and give help to new players as in skill suggestions, ideas and similar..

which reminds me of a funny little story..

around 5 months ago, a week after the release from GW i met a -now- close friend of mine. he was pretty new there in pre searing and i helped him to find his way around, gave him tips and we even went to catch one of those bears..

we didn't have that much contact right after that, just about 3 months later we started to talk again, he has his 2nd guild wars account now, 6 chars in 15k, even one with the FoW armor and more likely helps me out a little, when I need it. not to mention we're close friends and talk/play alot together nowadays..

I really do love to help people, in any way I can, if it's help on a mission, just a question to answer or a suggestion..

and finally.. for all those who kept reading on..

if you need any help, on a mission, fissure, sorrows.. anywhere..

look in game for my char, Angel Of May, and don't hestitate to pm me and ask :)
