hanging up cape part 2 

Well Heroes after more than a year of playing the game I may be hanging up my cape as well. It has nothing to do with I6, Diversification didnt really effect me. 2 nights in a row I have had timed missions defeated all the bad guys and the mission timed out. The last incident after I defeated all I waited for 50 mins for gm to show-up filed petitions and filed bug reports but no one showed. Replied to the email they sent and got nothing but automated responses from them. They used to be good a contacting and responding to problems. Now they appear to be just another typical on line game....unresponsive and automated. I dont believe they care anymore...just MHO

Give it some time. With Issue 6 there are apparently a lot of mission bugs. The GMs are getting overrun with requests for help, so it's going to take some time. I'm sure they will either get more staffed up or it will simply work out as the bugs get fixed.

Be patient. If they were badge missions, they should award you the badge while you're offline, you'll get it the next time you sign in. If they were failed missions and you didn't get the completion exp, you MIGHT get it when you sign in next, I'm not sure how that one works.

Yeah, I would agree with Ron on this one. With I6 hitting, just like all the other patches, things took a while to settle down to a somewhat normal state.

Give it some time to allow them to....work the bugs out, before making a hasty decision.

You're still going to have to ween yourself from the game slowly as to not have total withdrawal...let this be your grace period of forgiveness.

I'm going to agree with the others...I've petitioned them for my missing badges Sunday and still no response, but I expect this is due to heavy traffic.

DO what's right for you, but don't prevent yourself from enjoying an entertaining piece of software.

Actually with this bug it is ceasing to be entertaing software. The only missions my conact is giving me is timed missions, I just got a third one. When you cant complete a mission because of a game flaw then it no longer is fun. Now the staff is spamming me with "how well are have resolved your problem etc". All I can say is that if they do not reolve my problem in a timely manner and not just automated reponses I'll turn off my account. Thats why I havent bought CoV yet. If someone came out with another on line hero gane I'd jump ship right now because this is just plain silly. If they are having this many bugs than they should have waited to update the game because obvoiusly they werent ready. I didnt have this problem after the other issues

You might not have had this specific problem with the other issues, but a lot of people did have problems after the other issues were released as well. Trust me, it will get resolved as long as you submit bug reports/petitions. Not every aspect of the game is able to be tested by the game testers when an issue is about to go live and sometimes a minor change to one thing will cascade into a bunch of bugs in other things. Just be patient, it will get better.

What might not be a bad idea is to just take a break. Play some other boring game. A month from now they might have fixed all your problems, and you be all exited again to return, since that other game you were playing was by far not as fun as COH. Although I must say that I have not bumped into any bug or problem at all. It might also just be bad luck.

I can't tell you what to do, but I can tell you what I'm doing. After the severe problems caused by I6 I was initially so mad I planned to drop the game altogether. Customer support was mostly automated and when I did get a person, their ideas fell into the categories of useless and/or stupid. I cancelled my account and haven't played the game in about a week.

I'm cooling down, however, I'm still a bit mad about all these things. What I did was write a few letters to the people in the company that matter about the issues I had and I've decided to take some time off while Cryptic gets their act together. I will review what the messge boards say in January to make my final decision on whether or not to return to Paragon City.

There really is no excuse for how buggy the game has gotten and if they don't improve I won't be back. However, the game is fun when it is running properly and I'ld hate to leave it and all the people I've meet behind because the devs messed up the latest Issue.

My advice is to cancel your account, take a step back, take some time off, and check back in later. If the game isn't fun for you now then there is no point in paying for it. If the game gets fun again then there is no point in writing it off.

They're working on it and they explain how to update tickets without submitting multiple petitions.

Well I cant do my missions since those "great devs" havent fixed the problem since it will take a while and I know they wont send me an email telling me its fixed I might just have to say goodbye. However I can get my superhero fix by dusting off my old Champions role playing game...yes the good old days and no ignorant devs that dont know what they are doing. As for another game I did pick up Battlefront II which rocks cause you get to kill ewoks hahahaha. My characters have "officially" retired and I gave out all my influence to lowbies before deleting. Keep up the good fight I'll still saty on this board cause the people here are great and its actually the only noard i've been on where I havent seen flame war....To me thats impressive. Just let me know when its fixed and i may jump back in and see if I still like it

Also remember that they have the same GMs, but now their work is doubled, because they have TWO games to work on. Eventually, they will have additions to the support team, so we can have better service. Oh and one more thing; I've encounterred many new CoV bugs that I never heard of in beta, so it's not just CoH that needs some fixin'

Well it seems a little late for this, but I must tell you that the Devs know what they're doing, they are just overloaded right know, and need time to think out solutions to the current problems. I WILL however say that they are ignorant because they release ED despite all the "DOOOOOOOOOM"s that were said.

If it really bothers you that much and you're not patient enough to wait for it to be resolved, quit. You might not get notified of the problem being resolved, especially if they have a whole bunch of cases on it. But I assure you, if there's a problem and you've notified them of it, I'm sure they're working on it. The devs might ignore people screaming about NERFs, but they've always done their best to get support issues resolved in a timely manner. With the release of the new issue and the new game, it's just going to take some time.

As for the "prozium" comment, no, there is no mind-alteration/control going on. I'm not one of those "easily led" types when it comes to the devs. My experience with the support staff for this game has been excellent the times that I've had to use them. I've petitioned support 4 times in the past. Twice for people being extremely vulger and insulting on the broadcast channel, although I didn't get to see what happened exactly, I did see the flaming stop almost immediately and I did see the offending player disappear. The other 2 times were for "uncompletable" missions, like the issue you're having. In 1 mission, a hostage wouldn't follow me to an exit in Croatoa. In another mission a "glowie" was too close to a CoT crystal and couldn't be clicked without me being interrupted. In both cases, I had a GM on the scene within 15 minutes.

Thats the reponse I usually got when I had mission problems in the past. Ive filed just 2 petitions in the past for missions like that. They were usually on the scene in a timely manner and I thought it was great. The only thing that really gets my goat right now is I have only one contact and she hasnt given me choices for others yet and all my other contacts I've finished. Well anyway my conact has given me 2 timed missions of which I failed cause they timed out while waiting for help, then whamo my next mission you guessed it its a timed mission. So basically my toon is caught in limbo...no missions, contacts etc. So yeah im retiring(for now) Like I said I may back but Im dispensing all my influence so it doesnt go to waste. The prozium thing was just a reference to Equilibrium as per my avatar

Hey Heroes thanks for letting me vent my frustration and Im sorry for sounding like a baby. Im taking most of your advice and Im gonna be patient about the problem and just hunt for the meantime. Beside once I think about im 2 bubbles from 30 with my main toon and I need to get his aura first LOL.

Hunt next to the Tech Shop in IP. Take down Tsoo and you'll probably get your badge for the Sorcerers if you haven't already...there's Council guys there too, sometimes you can make them turn into Warwolves which is always fun (double the exp!). When you ding 30, talk to your old contacts and you'll get intro'd to your contacts in Brickstown and Founders Falls.

before I6 I had a similiar issue in that it was a destroy everything mission. I had done so but the ission wouldnt end. So I clicked support and within a couple of mins about 5 a gm showed up looking like the police drone. He spawned another baddie and when I destroyed it the mission ended.... It does happen when things are running smoothly and the gms arent slammed chasing down so many bugs

Compared to most other MMOs, the GMs/Support in City of Heroes/Villains is simply amazing. They're all extraordinarily friendly and will do whatever they need to do to help you complete your mission or whatnot (within the rules, of course).

As I mentioned in my earlier post, because of the changes in Issue 6 and the recent influx of new players and new missions, which will sometimes turn out bugged, the support personell are overwhelmed at the moment. Coming from an extremely strong technical support background, I know all too well what happens to the support staff when a new version of a software package is released. I can't tell you how many nervous breakdowns I helped to quell when I was working for Microsoft when Outlook 98 was released. (It was a free internet download with a free 90 days of support)

I have had this both before and after the updats and have had about 60% sucess using the /requestexitmission command.

Not sure if this was tried or if it will work in your case.

I have also just added the "timed mission xxx minutes left" the petition and received full credit and continuation to the story arc at a later time while playing... specifically did this in the mission that was freaks and family - well my mission had only freaks, once they were all dead it was just me and the crickets - I timed out but hours later while I was in another zone hunting the "MIssion Complete" and "Badged Earned" popped up.

To date I have never been unable to finish or get credit for missions when this happened.

The only issue I have had is when I sent two petitions and a GM came in and fixed the issue for me while I was online, I later received several more emails something to the effect "since you did not reply to our email about your problem we will assume it is fixed in xx days" each request produced more than 1 email a day until several days passed and then they ceased... I guess if they arent thorough they are persistent!

Thats to funnay as the family/freaks mission was the one I was running at the time LOL, Im resigned to the fact I probably wont get anything back for it but Im ok with it now....I was just hot under the collar for a couple of days. incidently I did do a timed mission last night and the that part bug has been fixed

though I'm not clear on which mission you had a problem with, I can sympathize... a friend and I had a similar problem with a CoV mission.

basically, we'd completed the mission or at least it appeared that way - we'd taken out all the mobs we could find (checked and rechecked to make sure there weren't any hiding), we'd rescued the hostage and led her back to the doorway... and then we sat around waiting while the last half of the allotted time counted down. petition was put in, but with the recent overload of requests for GM assistance, we didn't get any response before time ran out.

however, I did follow up with the emails that get sent out in response to a petition, and explained the situation in a little more detail than I was able to fit into the petition. the response I got suggested that a GM could "reset" the mission provided you hadn't gone back to the contact yet afterwards -- sounded to me like the contact can be 'rolled back' so that when you do go talk to them, they'll offer you that mission again.

so, just need to be patient while the backlog clears out, I guess - they'll get to you as quick as they can.

as an aside, on the whole I'm greatly impressed by the CS reps in this game. my only previous experience was with a game run by the online entertainment division of a certain company that's presently in lots of hot water over DRMs and rootkits - now there was some abysmal "service" (and I use that term very loosely)... more often than not, the response you'd get would leave you wondering whether the CSR even understood what you'd said and they'd almost always close the ticket which forced you to start a fresh one, retyping all the information from the previous ticket. actually getting help was a rare occurance, sadly.

Well bud,

I have to say that the GM's have (in the past) been extremely quick with their responses to my own idiotness. However, I had noticed that the closer to I6 and CoV dates, they had become less responsive due to the obvious amount of work they had. On a sideish note, while playing with a friend in CoV the other day, we ran his un-timed mission of "Save Dr. Whomevers Lab equipment" and cleared all the mobs, and saved the equipment but never recieved a mission complete. He waited 2 hours for a Gm to show up (I left the team but continued to check up on him) and never recieved any help, although he did petition it like 4 times. He did receive a e-mail about 2 days, and they did fix it, but it took a little while due to the overload.

That's part of the problem that makes it a little "Catch 22"ish. People are having a problem and Petitioning it. Then they're not getting a response, so they petition again...and again...each time you petition, it creates a new case for the techs working on the issue. So by petitioning multiple times, you're making more work for the techs working the cases, thus causing longer delays and more people submitting repeated petitions.

Bottom line, if you petition a problem, only do it once.
