I'm new to Gameamp so i would just like to say i love the site. But around new patch day at the coh login screen at the bottom right hand corner a message stating a need a new driver for my video card. Now i went to the nvidia site as specified. Downloaded the new driver and when i went to login the message disappeared. Now the real problem is, is when i try to sign on it tells me the server screen is unavailable and that i should try back later or go to the coh site and check on the news. This message had already popped up before i even downloaded the new driver i'm just curious whether this is because the game is congested right now due to the patch or its somehow interwined with the whole driver thing. Please someone give me an answer so can atleast get a taste of the new patch. Thank you.

I believe there were simply a lot of people trying to play at one time. I had heard of a lot of people with a similar problem.

I need a new setup file. I just bought the game, and it looks like the setup file is corrupted, cause it won't start and doesn't register as a valid win32 app. Could someone send me the Setup.exe file from disc one? You can email it to me at colinmarc@yahoo.com

Hi everyone,

I just bought CoH and am having problems with graphics. When I get to log in window the graphics lag/stutter a whole LOT. I can't really do anything. It took me one hour to get from log in window to toon costume window. Then I couldn't go any further.

This is what I have done so far:

Updated Sound Driver
Updated Video Driver
Increased Virtual memory to 4 Gig's
Defraged
Scanned disk for errors
Set XP to Performance

The only thing I can come up with is that my processor is too slow since it's a P2 300. I have 320megs of RAM and a GeForce4 440 MX video card. But, I can run EQ & EQ2; EQ runs fine & EQ2 runs slow but runs. So can you please help?

it could be from your sound card or your video card not being compatible, a friend of mine can run eq2 off her comp no problem, but coh is giving her some issues now....

I know it does not look like your first month is free since they ask you for your credit card, but during your first month you can cancel and your card will not be billed at all. I disagree with their policy here, but they do hold to the first month free, even if it looks at first like they are going to charge you right away. I wish I could help other than just to tell you to move on through it and trust them. I don't like it either.

yep, you automatically get it free when you set up the account for the 1st time... they will not bill your card until your 1st month is over...so you just need to register your account on the Offical Site and then add a game and you will be set to play (well after installing the game and downloading the patch to get your game current

ok i baught the game updated it and installed it i went onto the offical website and added the game onto my account... when i try to get onto the game on my desktop and then i log in it says my billing has expired wat do i do?

ok, when you added the game did you enter the serial number that was on the game, b/c that is what is supposed to get you the free month... if you have done this and it is still not giving you the free month you need to contact support and let them know what is going on... they are very quick w/ getting back to you when there is a problem, espically when it is something that prevents you from playing the game

Hi. I made a new post, and it's on the front page. Hopefully, they'll fix it. But, failing that, maybe you can. My graphics are fuzzy dots. THe shadows, powers, and auras are all fuzzy dots! I really need help to fix this, because it is really friggin' annoying.

Is this just happening to me, or is there a problem with the game? When ever I look at my ID, or another character's ID card, their picture is all blacked out. Any idea why?

I have not seen this problem yet, how long has this been happening to you? I am about to log onto the game, I'll let you know what I see. In the meantime, as the almighty Grifter would say, update your video card drivers!

For some reason my cursor (pointer) appears as a box with horizontal lines running through it. It only happens in CoH. I've updated my video drivers for my Radeon 9250, but that hasnt helped. Has anyone else had this problem?

I have had the same problem with the cursor thing. I updated my graphics driver and it fixed it.

Yeah, the 9250 runs OK with CoH, but it's best if you lower the detail levels and so forth. Getting rid of shadows will help a lot as well. My old PC has a 9250 in it and it runs alright. More RAM, surprisingly enough, will help with that as well. When I upped from 512 Meg to 1.5 Gig, I didn't have any problems aside from graphic processor slowdown. The new PC on the other hand just flies. :)

Hi, I am Kittyfat (a personal named hero), in CoH. I had left due to the fees and the need of a bit more money. I wish to play my lvl 40 Scrapper again... but i cannot due to the following. "CohUpdater.exe has encountered a problem" and i cannot fix it. I am using Ad-Aware SE, Spybot Search and Destroy, and AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. The other forum, "Cohupdater.exe has encountered a problem" gave no help to me. I have uninstalled and ran my virus programs countless times to find what the heck is wrong. I would love to hear some ideas, since i miss my Scrapper and the time I had put into him. I do not want to pay prices for it, but i would like to somehow fix it, even if it might cost a bit. If anyone knows any other accurate anti-virus programs, pleae message me any info. Ty!

Welcome to the boards Kittyfat.

This might take a while, but try this.

Uninstall the game.

Remove the City of Heroes folder from C:\Program Files\City of Heroes.

Reinstall the game.

See how that goes and let us know.

I always make a plug for the Common Solutions Guide from the main website... it requires some sifting and a bit of work, but many people have fixed their problems with it.

Thx for the idea of that CoH Forum, I found a few links that gave me even more ideas. Soon enough I started using HiJack-this to see what the logfile looked like. I had many (5-10) BHO problems in the beginning of the log, and then downloaded BHO Demon v2. Its is very efficient if there are to what seems to me BHO bugging you. Either way, I took em' out and ran CoH. The updater worked, as after I had shutdown, they came back, seemed as if they were hidden in the registry. I downloaded CCleaner (Crap Cleaner) and took out the BHOs permanently. I hope this reply can help who ever needs some help, ty for the help too guys. Tommarrow Kittyfat the lvl 40 Claws/DA Scrapper returns to Paragon City! =]

If you don't want to goto Wal-Mart and buy the game, you can go to the City of Heroes main website here, and click Account on the left side, and create an account with NCSoft (parent company of CoH). Then you can purchase an online registration code for CoH, input this code, and play your very own game of City of Heroes.
