Ya know I have been coming here for a while (ok so not as long as many but still a while) and as of recently the ad's on this website have been popping up more and more. Now I have a popup blocker and it is good but these are bypassing (maybe something about cookies or some such?) and are quite annoying..anyone else having this problem?

Geo Wizard: Lvl 50 Earth/Kin With Speed Boost and Stamina yay. Not to mention kick butt holds. Including Volcanic Gases, hehe. And now with his own moronic Animated Stone. And Transference!!! New and improved, 3 lvls in one day, adding to his arsenal Fulcrum Shift..oh yea. Can't wait to get some time under his belt now. I can now hurl Boulders....omfg no he didn't :) I look so pimp in my newest power...its brown and bumpy all over..can you guess?... Thats right is Stone Armor and it is kick butt. Fissure rocks my world! Fifty soon. Fifty on 12-10-2005 at 12:35am after 400hrs of hard labor Wanna throw a special shout out to Illusion Mastor, CBail, Mudpuppy, Jupiter Sweets, Dark Hollow, Lethal Fury, Pan, Majin Tank, Lotus of Death, and all the others i know I am forgetting for their help. And also to all the gameampers here at gameamp whom without I would never have made it.

yeah...I posted a few days ago about this...I believe thejeni is looking into it, as these types of ads are forbidden on gameamp. The 2 Circuit City and one Navy ads seem the worst for me, 'cause they hover over the page and you can't click on any forum links until they disappear.

i need to know what ads they are, and what page you are on (if possible) in order to get them off... the most recent one i've heard about is the circuit city one, are there more than just this ad? has that pesky Navy one come back already?

Those CC pop-up ads generally pop up when viewing screenshots or a profile page. This is why I always say to trust Best Buy instead.

Yea its mainly just the circuit city one for me...and usually over the Show Forum screen.

They seem to appear on any/every page, both here and over on the COV side. I started to make a list of them all, but it seemed like it was randomly on every page I went to, so I stopped.

I believe you will find...
The source of the ads is Macromedia Flash - as long as the website uses their technology for banner ads they have the opportunity to provide this kind of content. It is not a true pop up as it appears in the original frame. The only way a user can stop this is to uninstall Macromedia support and lose all of their content.

actually the source is the fact that we have groups of ads that are put up on rotation... they all come from the same place (no idea who)... when we get one that is a pop up, we just need to request to the place we are getting them to take that ad off the rotation..... just sometimes it takes a bit longer than others... and the page isn't as importatnt as who the ad is for... that is how we make the request for removal... i'll poke the "powers that be" again to see if something came up w/ it

I sent a PM with this very problem, I guess the staff are handling it, but like anything it will take time.
I pointed out that unlike a true Pop-Up the circuit city one is misleading and trickery, seldom has borders and you can easily accidently click on it if your not very careful.
As to removing "Flash" I tried it, and I kept getting a prompt to install it, when I chose "No" I was unable to view posts, I realy hate being forced to download and install something.
If anyone else knows how to uninstall "Flash" and prevent prompt yet be able to view posts please let me know.
I'm using SpyBot search and Destroy, POW Pop-up blocker and ZoneAlarm Pro, it does a good job of blocking most pop-upd but these get past even that.

Hello
I confirmed with Macromedia Today that the banner ad that is the source of the "pop up" content uses their Shockwave player to overwrite screen content without using a new frame like a true pop-up. If you choose not to see this pop-up and just get a static add you may follow the following steps.
In Microsoft Internet Explorer do the following.
Open Internet Explorer
Select Tools (on the main tool bar at the top of the window)
Select Manage Add-ons
Highlight Shockwave Flash Object in the list
Click DISABLE in the lower left corner
Click OK
Close Internet Explorer
There you go - you will get a little message at the bottom of the internet explorer frame each time a page attempts to load Macromedia Shockwave but it will disappear in a second by itsself - there is no need to close it.
I hope this is useful to some,
