For those who havent seen...it is being reported that anet has announced a new class for the expansion.
Which will be an assassin.
Supposedly it was released in a magazine, but already are many people who dont believe at least from what little bit I read.

No, Frog says "First Half 2006" ;). There's no actual date set yet. When a date is set, you'll see it reported all over the internet...

Looks like the Dual Wield fans will get there wish. Duel Wielders will simply have to learn their spelling.
But I do hope those are town clothes or a dress uniform. I'd hate to go stalking in high heeled boots :-)

A melee DD? hm...Im not so sure if I like the idea. Specially with that dual wield stuff.
Warrior+Assassin = Damaging Tank
Dual Wield+Illu Weapon = Unballance.
Just watch the prices of Warrior weapons to drop dead when chapter 2 comes out. They will become useless if this is is what I think it is..
Once again, they are follwing the Diablo path, first the Assassin..whats next? The Druid?
Maybe a buffer? hm...

with Duel Wield im betting they will have alot of skills like Cyclone Axe. Since they have two weapons they can take on multipule enemys at once. Im guessing that if its like i think it will be we will see a new Farmer in the mists. Warriors could be a thing of the past with this new character farming and dealing damage wise.

i think if this came out to balance it off, they could have very light armor so there max armor could be something low like 40 so it gives the other classes a chance to overcome the assassin

the main point about an assasin is the fact that they DONT run in head first - so they will have v light armour imo.
the dual weapons will be for when they get into a tricky spot i.e. when an assasin has to close to hand to hand combat with a targets body guard and they need to dispatch them quickly before any alarms are raised. However how this can fit into something like GW i dont kno!
basically i reckon the assasin will be lightly armoured, fast attacks (and lethal skills), be able to wield both bows and melee weaps (what good is an assasin who cant strike from range) - who knos they may be able to use fists and feet in martial arts style moves?
but what they wont be able to do is tank/farm, they'll be the ones who hang round the edge of a fight and then move in quikly to finish off the casters/monks and then back off again. Corner a assasin with a warrior and unless the assasin gets in a critical hit/cippling hit then i'm puttin money on the warrior.

you BET the flood gates are open!!! I'm gonna be first in line as soon as this thing comes out! I'll create another Garrett just for the assassin, which by the way looks AWESOME!!!!! I really hope that some of the work from anybody who posted in my stealthy profession thread shows up, especially if the attributes we chose are the real ones!!! I can't even put into words how excited I am about this new development!!!

From looking at the picture, it seems to me that the main weapon of assassins is gonna be Darts or Daggers. The spikes in her hand seem too misaligned to be claws. That'd be good, especially if he/she can have Darts with conditions on em already. :) And I assume that there will be some sight avoidance skills for assassin too.
BTW, the word assassin comes from the word Hashhash, which is a turkish killer who took drugs to heighten his senses. Borderline berserkers. Insane enough to kill, but sensible enough to sneak.
And if Anet is accurate to history, they won't make these assassin wear ninja clothes. (hopefully) Assassin and Ninja are two different types of killers.

Yes, correct me if I am wrong, but Ninjas were more of the special forces type where as assassins work alone.

I'm guessing that the Assassin class will be all about speed. Probably will have caster-standard armor, will use dagger or darts, as people have said, and will have a LOT of speed boost skills.
If they do use the extremely light style weapons, I'd guess that they would do relatively low damage, say about 10-19, but have blazingly fast rate of fire/attack, say about 1 attack per .9 seconds. Also, Condition-causing skills will likely be plentiful, but the characters should be fairly frail without the ability to stand up to many monsters in melee combat but with dodge abilities versus range and, above all, SPEED BOOSTS. Think about an Assassin running into battle, poisoning some foes, inflicting Weakness on others, Dazing some more, and then getting the heck out of the fray before the enemies really know what hit them. Fast-attacking weapons, along with having a second weapon in the left hand, would allow more weapon-based Condition inflictions to be used faster, which would allow the Assassin to do their job (Conditions) faster and with less chance of getting caught.
That's my vision of an Assassin in Guild Wars terms. Run in, hit one thing so hard it dies, then get out, recover, and repeat. Seems good to me.

I thought the term "Assasin" cam from the term Hashassin, but my memory is shakey. I read something some time ago in The Divinci Code. Anyway, the class looks interesting and I suspect like most others that the assassin will be able to condition and have light armor.
Eagerly awaiting GW Part 2.

I'm really curious how this Profession will turn out. It's a class / profession that by sterotyping anyway, is not really suited to group mechanics. The class has been used in CRPG's before but either single character style, or as something which would more readily be called a rogue rather than an assassin. The 'classic' assassin works alone, or with a spotter, but not with a Warrior stomping around except maybe as a diversion for the crowd while he/she sneaks up on his mark and slips in his poniard.
I doubt we'll get a Thief like, climb up the walls, through the window, smother the merchant-prince in his sleep game element in Chapter 2 as Guild Wars is, so far, a completely combat oriented game. But who knows, we may get Stealth Missions. I wonder where that leaves the bumble-footed Warriors and "crawl through the dust? NO WAY!" Mesmers :-)
I'll leave the "what were Ninja's really like" response to DexAholic :-)

Ahm, no they weren't. Ninja's were effectively a terror-weapon.
What you think is awesome are the heavily romanticized Hollywood version that spawned in the eighties and got subverted by the RolePlaying Game companies due to the general Ninja! craze of that decade.
But that's ok, we like you anyway :-)
On Hashashim or Hashashin:
Here's a good link with some historical background.
| QUOTE | Derived from the Arabic for hashish, the Hashashin were originally an order established by the Old Man of the Mountain, Hassan Sabah, a Nizari Ismaili, who chose the fortress of Alamut in 1090 as his base for a revolt against the Turkic Seljuq rulers of Persia.
By some accounts, his self-sacrif-icing devotees carried out suicide missions against prominent fig-ures in mosques and other public places - the first being the power-ful vizier Nizam Al-Mulk - while under the influence of hashish.
Marco Polo, however, claims Hassan Sabah drugged his would-be apprentice hit-men, transported them into a beautiful garden that posed as Paradise and promised them everlasting bliss on completion of their mission.
So loyal were his followers, writes the 13th century bishop of Acre, James of Vitry, that they would, on command, perform the "death-leap" from the castle walls and "shatter their skulls below". |

I was awaiting the new profession for gw to be revealed, but i woudn't have know that it would be THIS awesome! This might be a gd thing for most peope. Imagine a Warrior/assassin that could dual weild and at the same time have a great armor. the possibilities for skills are even bigger as the assassin could also use a wide range of weapons.
First thing i'll make when i get chapter 2 will be to make a character for each new profession.

Actually I think the real ninjas are terribly awesome. The hollywood romanticized ninja is only slightly cool.
Don't get me wrong. I don't like this whole hashish bit, those guys didn't have any respect. Ninjas, despite the stereotype, are not cold-blooded killers. They had an immense respect for life, and I believe they only killed when it was for the betterment of society (whatever society that may have been). Anyway my favorite thing about ninjas is the martial arts and skill involved, not what they did with that skill. And i like the suit.

you know what i bet? dual wielding is either
A) an Elite Skill
B) A assassin character trait
I dunno though, because that would make axe warriors own. perhaps its the exlusive attribute for the assassin where you would need 12 of it to dual wield or something, anyway its exciting to say the least. I can't wait to make an Assassin/Ranger or a Assassin/Mesmer that would be fun.

I think that the assasin will use a combonation of ranged and melee weopons. I have a few possabilities for the melee and ranged weapons.
Ranged:
1) cross bow
2) throwing stars
3) throwing knives
melee:
1) long pole
2) samari sword
3) num chucks (spelling)
I also think that they should have traps too. maybe something that when an enemy walks over it, they will be caught in a neet for 5 seconds making it imposible for the enemy to attack, cast spells, or move. Also some traps that do the same thing but only for 3 seconds and the foe is electricuted taking 70 damage or something. or the foe is burnt or poisoned. Some other traps could also be made like a spirit/turret. The spirit could fire auto arrows at any enemie tht comes within range of it. This could be useful in pvp when you place it in the middle of the map. you could have different turrets do dfferent things like one that shoots out flames like a flame thrower that gives health degeneration, one that shoots poison arrows, one that shoots flame arrows that hits all enemies in range of that arrow, one that shoots arrows with a 20% armor penetration. The turrets could be called a spirit sorta like the one that a ranger has.
That whould make the assasin very strong but they would have armor that is 65 (max) so they can be killed easier. Their armor has to be stronger than a caster.
The assasin could also have attribute points for finess. In this catagory there could be skills that allow the assasin to dodge or evade attacks from enemies.
Tell me what you think about these ideas. I think that they sound pritty cool. Maybe I should Email Anet and tell them about all the sweet ideas that I have. =)
