Last night I was out searching for a collector item. Turns out that I need bleached shells (ugh) for it. So, I went and fought some sand wurms. A freind and I took a load of henchies out to the desert and found some. The build I was using seemed to be pretty effective against them. I don't know if you could solo them like this but after I get a few more points of absorbtion, it may work better.
I am a W/R and I used these skills:
Hundred Blades
Sever Artery
Gash
Final Thrust
Apply Poison
Antidote Signet (not necessary)
Troll Unguent (enought wilderness survival to get it to +9 health regen)
Dryder's Defenses (or your choice of defensive skills)
For attribute points, I don't remember exactly what I had but it was something like this:
Strength 10 (add armor penetration)
Swordsmanship 10
Wilderness Survival 12 (for poison duration and healing)
Basically, the poison and bleeding will drop the health at a fairly decent rate. Hundred blades is not required but is handy for extra damage. Throw in the 20% hp penalty from gash, and when he gets below 50% hit it with final thrust.
I'm sure this could be improved upon so any suggestions are welcome.

Farming Worms... nice thought
Balanced stance might be handy cause they tend to knock you down evry time they surface.
And Bonetti`s defence perhaps? If you can get the adrenalin for it.

Hey BlackPheonix,
There are actually 2 guides on this site for soloing the sand wurms, one I wrote for a W/Mo. The other one is for a W/R and the W/R seems to be much faster at killing the Wurm.
Here is the W/R guide, I think it links to my guide as well
Hope this helps

Good info, guys. Thanks. The W/R guide is for an axe warrior. I'm kinda stuck on bein a sword warrior(I have a nice gold axe with lengthens poison but I'm stubborn and wanna use my sword :-) ) 'cause my sword just looks cool. You can call me stupid, or nieve, or Fred, I don't care, just don't call me late for dinner.
;-)
So, any suggestions for a sword W/R?

Interesting, Reading his guide I dont see any axe skills even being used. He uses Penetrating attack which is a Marksmanship skill so I am guessing he meant Penetrating Blow which is a low adrenal cost axe skill that has 20% armor penetration. Thats the only skill for axe, so I would switch it out for Final Thrust, or Sever Artery may be even better to put poison and bleeding on that fool. And youre all set.

basically the sand worms are easy to kill, if you got healing, they arent any worse than griffon herds... glads defense, bonetti's defense, mending, live vicariously, some healing if necessary, vigorous spirit, etc... to get your shells, it's hard to do with a group of henchies, the bleached shells drop infrequently, and with henchies, you're probability dropped even more

One thing that makes a big difference fighting wurms is to get their health off regen and onto degen :)
As UC said apply poison is a good one. As a ranger/mesmer I like poison arrow and phantasm and hunters shot is good if you catch it coming out of the ground, so bleeding, poison and phantasmed, so something for everyone lol.
The art of regen/degen is coming to a head with the update as creatures like trolls sometimes use Troll Urgent+Endure Pain then run in and attack. So having at least one degen skill is a must now.

Ya i was stuck on swords for a while too, finally moved to axe when i got battle rage. Got a nice condition build for a sword though so i use that in arenas the odd time.
To someone above, they only surface once, when you start attacking them they will stay up. Whenever i've fought them, i think i might've only had 1 or 2 attack skills, i just kept swinging until it was dead, mind you, it took a while.

Ok, I tried it solo last night with the above build (mine) and just so you guys know, I was able to kill one but it is very difficult to stay alive. The one tweak I did was to replace hundred blades with another adenaline based skill. With apply poison and troll unguent, i found myself running out of energy quickly. This could be remedied by replacing dryders defenses with bonetti's defense as I think someone mentioned.

I just solo them using my variation on the invincimonk build. Shield of Judgment, Zealot's Fire and Symbol of Wrath are what does all the damage for me. AoE spells can be used without a problem, wurms don't run away ;)
