Any French experts?

Can any of you French experts translate "Cap au Diable" for me? An online translation site (I know how bad they are) says "cape to the devil", though "the devil's cape" would make more sense. It says the later would be "Cap du Diable", so I was just wondering how bad the online site was.

Re: Any French experts?

Never took French in my life, but I speak pretty good spanish and some Italian, and that looks like Cape of the Devil to me.

Re: Any French experts?

I took French last year in college, and it means "course to the devil." Loosely interpreted, you can take it as "road to the devil" or "route to the devil" or any variation of those words. Hope this helps you.

EDIT: If I remember correctly, there's a Canadian legend (?) or tale about "Cap Au Diable." I think there was a book with the same title too, but I'm not completely sure...

Hehe. I was thinking that too, but I figured I'd spare the boards my metal references.

Re: Any French experts?

This could be interpreted many ways.

I have looked for the Canadian story 'cap au diable'. It does exist, but I couldnt find a description/ explanation or at least one in english.

'Cap' = course (as is racing) or more likely :cape, as in geography.

Au, from the word À, means 'of'.

So it looks like it is 'Cape of the Devil' eg 'The Devil's cape'. However, though it is unlikely (with the word 'Au' in there?), 'diable' can be used as an adjective.

So it could always mean 'Unholy cape' or 'fiendish cape'. This isnt very likey though.

Remember it is cape as in land, not cape as in 'yay lvl 20 I can get a cape'

Re: Any French experts?

I just took quick search, and project Gutenberg has the legend of Cap Au Diable on their site for download. Here's the link even.

Problem: Its in French, also.

Oh well, Maybe later today I'll look for an English translation.
