hey guys, heres my problem. my old old x800xtpe runs guild wars perfectly, so did my 9800pro somewhat and a 9600se i had laying around. now i play the same game on my new system with my opteron @ 3ghz and a 7800gtx and the graphics look horrible and it does the same on my cousins rig which has a 6800gt. here is where i posted the problem with images. i contacted arena net about this issue too. for paying aroud $500 for my gpu i expect my games to look great, not like s***... guess time will tell if the r580 will stomp out nvidia...
WOW! Im sorry I'm not posting to help, I'm simply lost in your explanation, because I could not understand a single word you said, so many computer terms make my head hurt, how could you posibly know what all that means. Anyway sorry for this random post, was just amazed at how stupid you can make me feel.
It is only when you have lost everything, that you are free to do anything.
I have an lsi board and ive notcied th enewer nvidia high ends dont work too gret with guildwars for some odd reason. Seems an old ati pci card kicks in better.

Re: im not pleased
Yup. nvidia for some reason doesn't work too good for guild wars on my friends computers, maybe we're doing something wrong, eh? We're using ATI right now and it works just fine.
could be driver issues, ati had bad drivers in the past however ati had never had a card like those fx series of nvidia's. ill just probably replace my card with a r580 unless this gets fixed.
I dont know if THIS will help you out but, i had some texture problems the other day, when i updated my graphics card to the new Drivers from Nvidia.(it went just like yours did) To sort the problem out i had to revert/Rollback back the driver to an older one, seems the new update didnt like GW..
Yes, bad drivers can cause issues, as well as not having an up to date DirectX or other drivers up to date. Other things you may be doing that cause that are overclocking or misconfiguring the graphics card. If you overclock the memory too much you WILL get frequent texture mess-ups. I used to have my card clocked fairly high on memory, but in-game I would get the same errors as you. If you haven't overclocked your card, it may have come overclocked without you knowing, some companies do that as a means of making their product look better in comparison to others.
Are there any other noticeably problems? I know that if you set antialiasing on the card settings level to something like 8x or something other than a plain number (excluding SLi), it will usually blur the text as well as all of the models, resulting in screwy text. A bad DirectX install can cause a TON of glitches as well, especially if you use a version incompatible with your graphics card. Consider upgrading if you haven't already. I personally get a HUGE amount of DirectX problems, as I have a buggy install because Windows tends to do a bad job with installers for it, at least for me. The method I used to upgrade resulted in a less than clean install and made it slightly more error-prone. Occasionally it will be the simple texture error, other times it will be off center text or extremely weird textures. Sometimes the enchantments above my skill bar (default UI) will be solid black, and sometimes items will be the wrong or an off-center image. If you are getting anything like that, consider checking your install of DirectX with Start>Run>dxdiag and making sure you have 9.0c installed. dxdiag can also tell you if any of the files are corrupt.
Other than that, it may just be a compatibility issue and will remain unsolvable until either a driver update or an update to the GuildWars engine.
Omg wow.. didnt know that problem existed with some nvidia cards.. you saved me a headache i was going to get a 6800LE.
Guess I'll get a x800GT instead.Thx for the tip.
Posted something on this in detail before but cant think where is is at moment so here is a brief.
It's not you, the card or the game! it's the drivere!!
For 5900xt and before run the 66.93 nvidia drivers
for the rest and up the 77.72 drivers are ok.
81.85 messed up alot of cards both new and old when it comes to Guild Wars. Hope sometime soon nvidia will work out their one driver fits all style has problem.
It comes from the 6800 + runs pix shader2 which nvidia set the drivers to backup Battlefield2 and some other games to boost effects. As alot of games now are made to match one brand of card or the other there will be some messing around.

Re: im not pleased
its a driver issue like the guy above said. I was having the same problem but then updated to a new set of drivers and presto!!!
I run guild wars on a 6800 GT also, and it works wonders. I have 1 gb of ram memory and a athlon 64 3.4+ processor. I have all the details in MAX and works perfectly.
i used to play guild wars on 6600 gt and it looked great ... i havent played for like 2 months.... after reading your post i logged in, and my game looks the same as yours.. i think ANet f***ed something up in one of their updates

Dont think we can blame ANet for everything and not everyone got bugs happening in their games from the same drivers.
On the same drivers that did white out effects on a friends computer just did strange things with the fog on mine. Yes, as far as I know ANet has fixed some vid problems but as yet have found no proof they made any new vid bugs.
So if you have no problems with the setup you use then keep it.
If its not broke, don't fix it.
ok heres the settings i tried. the latest official nvidia and 3rd party drivers, i used drive cleaner too. i went from my stock clocks of 430/1200 to 500/1337 and still the same issue. btw, for those you are aa/af fanatics, the card is sluggish @ 8xaa on 1280x1024 and 16xaa @ 1024x768 hehe, those are sli only aa modes i think. and for those who want proc specs, its the opteron 146 clocked @ 3ghz, stable too working on ram timings though. as for the overclocked cards, imo evga and bfg make good ones considering thier heatsinks should be able to take the heat. hell my 7800gtx runs @ 80ºC at 500/1337 but i will get a silencer for it. might, just might consider getting sli but in the long run its a waste. crossfire is what i want but wonder if i can do sli 8 and 16x aa. eh so much money spent on a card to find out it cant properly handle 1 game. price i pay for a nvidia card... eh ill give those 78s a try and see if i still get that issue.
As far as I remember the 78 driver batch was the start of the problem. But then again Im only going on what we tested and found out over the last 4months and even the fps was lower with 78+ drivers.
Allright, this is a known issue. I myself and 2 friends experienced it. My 2 friends had like mx model nvidia cards. All they had to do was roll back the drivers to like 6 point something. I however had to resort to a ati all in wonder 128 in order to play. The 7200 just didnt like the game.
Well there certainly must be a resolution for this. The 7800gtx is a good chip, and should be able to run anything well -- outside of driver issues. It's not terribly uncommon to have driver problems with some games when new graphics cores are released. Actually it's usually ATI that has driver problems like these. In fact, they're famous for it. Also, I noticed that the clockspeeds you're using are above the specs for a 7800gtx, and 80C is pretty hot...even for an nVidia chip. I would try running at stock speeds until you get the problem resolved. I've also heard that some eVGA 7800 cards shipped with the wrong firmware and need to be flashed. This is most likely a driver issue, though, and nothing to be alarmed or angry with nVidia or ArenaNet about. Let me do a little research and I'll post back here...
A friend of mine had a NV 68xx something or other that had problems with GW, so he asked me to try it out in my box. Slapped it in, re-installed drivers. Sure enough I had the same problems. I put ny card back in, a Ti4600, re-installed drivers, and everything was fine again. Except, I noticed that when I minimized GW, there was a 4-5 sec delay before I could do anything after it minimized. This began to annoy me, so I decided to check NV for updates, and there just so happened to be a new driver avail. While I was downloading it, I checked the release notes. They did say something about 68xx problems with GW being fixed in the next release. I also read something that recommended I un-install the old drivers before installing the new; something I had never done because I never figured it mattered. I did it this time. 2 reboots later, I fired up GW... and I was FLOORED at how beautiful the game looked. I have NO idea why, but suddenly GW looked better than I had ever seen it. I even dragged my SO to verify, and they were also amazed. Dunno if it'll help you or anyone else... but from now on I'm un-installing the old drivers 1st.
This looks like the exact problem you're talking about, and it's definitely an odd driver issue with nVidia's newer GeForce drivers. I'm sure the issue will be resolved at some point and you can use the new drivers, but in the meantime just switch to the older 78.xx ones.
Like I said, this kind of stuff is really pretty common. Sometimes a driver build is released that has problems with some games and it take a bit for someone to get it fixed. I had major problems with Knights of the Old Republic and theh ATI drivers I wanted to use, but I just had to use a compatible version of the driver until ATI got the problem fixed. Don't sweat it.
