I spent 5 hours "farming" and doing the quest where you gather all that guy's stuff. While doing so, I killed ALL the Furnace Guardians at ALL the gates to the Furnace it's self. Only one of these gates had a gear near it and it was in and functioning, so I removed it thinking maybe THAT would open the gate. Well, it didn't. So what's the trick? There's got to be a way in there. According to the map on this site, there's someone in there of possible interest. The "TinMan" or Forge Master? I know someone is in there because there was a boss and a few cronies on the other side of one of the gates during my battle with the Guardians. Someone PLEASE tell me how to get in. The curiosity is killing me. lol.

There's a possibility that you need another gear to put in, or you open it from the otherside, seeing how I came upon this myself. But it's mostl likely I was at another gate than where you are at now... hm. Too bad there's no map on it.

Were you doing the right quest? In many cases, if you aren't doing the proper quest some of the gates are unopenable. For example, the gate directly right of the entrance to the Furnace opens only when you are doing High Priest Alkar's quest as far as I know, and when you have no quest at all many of the gates with Furnace Guardians in front of them do not open, though it is possible to get to the other side with Consume Corpse and Necrotic Transversal...

To the best of my knowledge(woefully limited as it is), the only way to get into the actual forge is via the Final Assault quest. You get the Final Assault quest after you complete all of those other quests; Orozar Highstone, High Priest Aklar(spelling is close enough), Galen Trask, and Kilroy Stoneskin.

When you first eneter the furnace there is a gear to you right. Usless just in a machine. Carry this gear the whol eway through. Drop it and use another to open doors. Then pick it bakc up. Its the only way in.

I believe GW here may have the answer. With a name like "Final Assault", that sounds like it would be in the area I'm talking about. Sorry to say to you others, I think you have your gates confused. There are many in here and only a few are to the Forge it'self. They are Guarded by 3 Furnace Guardians each, and there are 4 of them. There is a map on this site if you want to see where exactly I'm talking about. As far as the quests, I haven't gotten to Final Assault yet. That may be my answer. I have done 3 out 4 of the "Into the Furnace" Quests and a couple of internal only quests. But I haven't found a group yet capable of doing Orozar successfully. I guess when I do, I'll get Final Assault and get to go see Tinman. Anybody know if he has goodies?

BTW when you are doing Final Assault, you have a dwarven helper that doesn't get attacked by ennemies and suply you with infinite dwarven powder kegs wich is the only way to open the Furnace gates guarded by Furnace guardians.

Sweeeet! Thanks Dark. My question has now been answered with finality. And hopefully this has helped others with the same curiosity. And thank all of you who responded, whether you knew what you were talking about or not. lol. Nice to know people care enough to try and help without asking for a p or a k in return. lol
