Are the Epic Power pools....

A must have power pool? I mean do you have to choose from them when you get higher level, will it be a mistake if I dont choose epic?
thanks for any help.

The fighting madness of his race was upon him, and with a red mist of unreasoning fury wavering before his blazing eyes, he cleft skulls, smashed breasts, severed limbs, ripped out entrails, and littered the deck like a shambles with a ghastly harvest of brains and blood.

Not really. You don't HAVE to have them, but I think that some of them are really cool. Be advised though, if you do you can only pick from one set.

I see the epic powersets as giving you a really good chance for diversifying your character. Like, giving a blaster a tank power (temporary invulnerability), a tank a blaster (fire blast) or controller power (fossilize), etc.

Re: Are the Epic Power pools....

And you have to be level 41 before you can pick your epic pool. By then you have picked all the powers you want from your regular pools. But if you mean the pools that the system tells you about at level 6, then the answer is still no. You don't have to, but there are not enough power in your main power lists to pick, so you have to. In the extra pools are the travel powers like superspeed and fly. You would definately want them :)

Edit: Sorry for the dumb remarks. You already knew that part of course. I was confuzing you with one of the really new players.

Thanks for the replies...

What epic power pool would go good with a Energy/Electric blaster...? I was thinking fire but I would like some opinions.

munitions ROCKS for a blaster.. i don't care what type you are... the difference that body armor (once slotted) makes on your squishiness is worth getting the whole set.... and of course having that AoE sleep grenade is really really great also (mmmmmmm holds)

i haven't tried out the other ones.... there is no way i'm giving up my body armor *grin*

A lot of that choise might depend on whether or not your hero is based on a concept, or you are looking for overall uber effects. I find that the Epics offer you the ability to close gaps in an efficient build.

Jeni has the assault rifle, for her character, I would have chosen the Munitions Mastery set myself simply for concept reasons. I have an AR/DEV Blaster that will be going that route.

The Energy Primary is lacking in good AoE's. Munitions Mastery has the Long Range Missle, and the new Electricity Mastery has a great Cone attack called Static Discharge. The knockback effect is something you should already be familiar with, so the Long Range Missle would give you an extra AOE, but not any extra effect that your build doesn't already have. Static Discharge is a nice cone range attack with no knockback. A combination of Static Discharge followed by Energy Torrent would be a devastating combination. Especially because so many enemies have protection from Smashing damage in the higher levels.

Then there is the defenses that they offer. I find that the basics like Fire Shield, Charged Armor and Body Armor are pretty close to the same, but when you talk about all out defensive capabilities, Force Mastery has to be the king. Once you get Force of Nature, you really are a force to be reconed with.

The thing to consider when it comes to epics is "what does my character lack". I know there are some really good descriptions on this website somewhere. I'll try to find them and post the link to this string.

Re: Are the Epic Power pools....

force mastery was the best for my all electric blaster because personal forcefeild rocks, u can always get the glowies in missions, and u can jump into a mob and only the bosses powers will get throgh to u,(if well slotted), and u get powers llike temp invunerability, force of nature and repulsion feild which sends foes flying far, so i think u should pick force mastery :), worked for my level 50.
