| Missions: Where do they lead? |
|
|
|
I just started playing GW a week or two back, and ive made 3 characters. None have reached the 'fire island' area, and i just found out that to ascend you do not need to finish EVERY mission - so here is my question. Can someone tell me which missions are required, like which ones lead to new areas, new continents, new cities, the important ones. eg, the one that takes you to lions gate and the one that takes you to the crystal desert area (the main one im wondering about is the mission that takes you to the 'fire island' area, i forget the real name).
this could also be useful for people who want to get to the end but do not want to pay for a run to every mission or area.

Doing ALL of them will bring you practically everywhere.

my question is though, which missions do you NEED to complete to get to all of the main areas? No, im not ascended, thats part of the question. Which missions do you need to ascend, and how to get to the last island area.

Just do them all. It would be doing yourself a favor. doing them all guarntees that you everything right, although you may need to ran to certian cities. I know you can skip Nolani Academy and a coupel Kryta ones (in Kryta go to Sanctum Cay from ToA), but besides that you should do them all.

the only one actually needed is sanctum cay. but the runner has to be skilled and willing to endure several hours of running. all other missions can be bypassed. after ascention just do the missions it's easier then trying to bypass.

Over 1000 Hours of GW in 4 months. 5 game completed characters. I really should do more with my free time

The only missions that take you to places that are otherwise inaccessable are Sanctum Cay, which takes you to the Desert (more specifically Amnoon Oasis) and the missions from Thunderhead Keep on (excluding Hell's Precipice, which just sends you to Droknar's Forge). But, as other people have said, DO THEM ALL. You'll be doing yourself and the world a huge favor because you'll learn the skills that are necessary to do everything.
Once you have a character through all the missions, you can splurge a bit on this rule. A lot of people only like to go through Sanctum Cay, Ascension, and Thunderhead Keep and on after they've done the game before, which is fine. It is generally easier to just go through the missions, though.

you should do every mission once. I can understand wanting to skip a mission the second time around, but if you havent even made it to the Ring of Fire (the name of your fire Island area) no mission in guildwars is that bad.
Why this emphasis on rushing to the end? it surley isn't to get ready for PvP as you would miss your chace for lots of skills, money, weapons, and Experince (and I don't mean the kind your charecter gets).
I realy enjoyed every mission in the game. Perhaps I didn't get every mission the first time, but it was a sense of accomplishment to finnaly beat thunderhead keep, or get out of the wilds, or even get through the frikin Dragon's lair mission.
Skipping missions is skipping the game...

+cred to peter, I agree. To skip all the missions and only do the essential ones will... well basically waste your money I think. You not only miss out on 4/5 of the game, but you lack all the skills, money, tactics, equipment you learn and gather along the way to the Ring of Fire. Considering you said you've only had this game for a week or two... and you already have 3 characters... that's way too rushed if you ask me. You're probably still in Old Ascalon if not, the Shiverpeaks. My advice to you is to disregard the information in this thread about which missions you need, and which missions to do, and instead find them out for yourself by exploring the map. Not only is it a lot more rewarding, but it's fun and you don't have to waste away your money buying skills when you can get them as rewards from quests ;). GL HF

I agree also with Peter and DSL in playing the game you payed for and having fun with it. As for your three characters and not ascended any of them in a week :O it took me alot longer than a week playing one character just to get ascended, a month in fact.
But if buying games to race through to the end is your thing then
a, Santum Bay (get the staff)
b, get to augry rock to find three missions you have to do Elona Reach, Thirsty River and Dunes
c, once the three missions are done fight yourself if you win you go to Dragon's Lair finish this and ascend.
Edit = to pose or not to pose that is the question, why bother having good money placed on a game to skip through it and get to the end missing the story. Also if its your first time through how you going to fund all of this?

it's DLS >.< haha, but yes, it took me a while to get ascended. I have created 4 characters, 1 deleted, 2 ascended and right now my ranger is just starting... somewhere around Yaks. I haven't skipped around straight to Sanctum Cay with any of my characters, I enjoy earning my skills as rewards and capping elite ones. But perhaps that's just my preference.

Yep, for the short run:
-Sanctum cay (to Amnoon)
-3 ascend missions (Elona, dusty, thirsty)
-Dragons lair
-Thunderhead keep
-Ring of Fire
-Abaddon's Mouth
-Hell's Precipice
For the really short run:
-Thunderhead keep (get run from Beacon)
-Fire missions
(not 100% if ascend is needed for fire)
BUt why not then do straight PvP char instead ?
