Teamspeak

I'm just trying to get an idea of how many people use it. I'm debating DLing it, but I don't want to if not too many people I'll be teaming with have it. What are your thoughts on it guys?

As I understand it, quite a few people use it. I haven't downloaded it yet though, because I don't have a mic.

i've downloaded it however i dunno how to set it up in order to use it....

Can anyone help me with setting it up? I'm not trying to create my own just yet i really would like to join someone's team speak if that is possible?

Because I don't want to re-type, read this. It just works out better if you already know a group that has one set up, because it's not like a CB radio where you can just "shout out" for whomever might be on... lol.

Once you open teamspeack go to connection and click connect. then you'll see two subfolders Local Address i think and Web Servers Address. Click on Web and then adjust settings for your search. I typed in COV and then did a search on that as well as COH. It came up with alot of servers already existing but beware...some individuals are not too keen for accepting "guests" as was my experience!

Team Speak Experience

I haven't tried to use it, but my Super Group has before I joined them. They didn't much care for it and reported a bad experience when I suggested using it. Not much of a reason was given other than unreliability.

Our SG uses it. I have a hosting company and its like $9/mo for up to 20 users. We love it. A few only listen but it's great specially on TFs. Nice to discuss strategy and a quick "BOSS" "pull back" "run" or "I'm going NOVA" can make a big dif in reaction time. Had it for a couple months and never had a problem with it other than 1 user having feedback problems. Our server has a password and we only allow SG members to use it as of now.

Not an expert on this, however, I believe skype limits how many users that can be on the server at one time, where as teamspeak has a higher level of users that can be on at a time.

Was on a team with skype before if i remember right you are limited to 5 people, also i remember the person hosting it often had bad lag with 4 or more people. it also seemed more likely to crash.

one of my Sg members hosts a teamspeak server and our sg uses it all the time it is so handy no typing and better communication when in trouble you can just say it rather than getting killed by typing its alot better than typing. Not to mention its kind of neat to hear your other teamates. also to use team speak you have to add the server to your list after that you click connect then you have to pick a nickname and have the designated servers password also remember to click anonymous rather than registered on your first log in. Its a little trickey at first but you will love it. Also it does take some adjusting in the personal settings for input and out put volume levels.

this is something I made for the Guildwars site..
But I'm happy to post it here as well if it can help you guys out ;-)

Ok so you like to be able to talk on Teamspeak?
Click here to download teamspeak and install it

first of all let me say a headset will give you much better sound than speakers would do

To connect to your guild server, open Teamspeak and choose Connections followed by Connect

Right mouseclick on the word Servers and choose Add Server

Fill in an appropriate name for the server you will visit, this name is totally your choice

press Enter

you will notice fill-in fields on the right hand side of your window
Label is the name you chose for the server
fill in the Server Address from the server you want to visit
fill in your own Nickname
and don't forget to fill in the Channel Password at the bottom
leave all the rest blanc

press Connect
you are now logged in to your chosen teamspeakserver

This is your basic installation to visit a server on teamspeak
The following part might solve some problems with your microphone

Go to Settings and choose Sound Input/Output Settings

make sure that the Voice activation level indicator is somewhere in the middle
if you move it all the way towards Shout you will really have to shout to get a sound out on teamspeak
if you put it all the way towards Whisper we will be able to hear the slightest sound you, your computer or your mom makes

here you can activate Push To Talk as well, a handy feature that will prevent others to hear what they shouldn't hear. Only when you press a certain button, others will be able to hear you
select Push To Talk ans press Set

press the key that you would like to determine as your voice activation key
I would suggest the 0 of the numeric keyboard, because it's a handy key to reach

now it will show on the right hand side of Push To Talk what key you have chosen

if you still make a horrible sound whenever you are talking, go check this
Go to Settings and choose Options

for Direct Sound Buffer size choose Better Sound Quality
if you still have lots of distortion, try to put Input device and Output Device
not on the Primary Sound Drivers but the other option there is

Teamspeak is so awesome, i am a newb at it. So much easier to say there is a boss here, instead of typin it in and getting killed. If u don't have teamspeak, get it you will love it =)

I was thinking about trying out something along the lines of teamspeak, and bandwidth wise this one does seem to be the most highly praised. I was wondering if teamspeak works in conjuction with the game audio, or if that would need to be turned off to run teamspeak. Thanks for any input.

TS works in conjunction with the game audio. Quite well in fact. I use TS every night when I play the game. Sometimes I play with others in gamea on TS and sometimes I just listen to whats going on.

I know this is an old topic that i'm bring up but i'd like to bring out an issue with using teamspeak. I go it because a lot of the RSF teams are using it. My only problem with it is that not everyone on the team had it or could install it because they would be pushing the limit of what their computer could handle while playing. They already have long zoning issues and get dc'd ever now and then. The problem for me is that if I start using TS, I don't tend to write anything for the others that are not on and neither do other people. It makes it hard for the other teammates to get involved and they almost always end up being clueless as to whats going on with the team because nobody is updating them. Since I play with friends and really enjoy the chats during the game with them as we play more then the game itself(been there, done that, now repeat), I now use it just to listen to the people talk. I do not use the mic anymore so my responces can be heard by the whole team and not just a few.

If your gonna use Teamspeak or Ventrillo, keep the rest of your team in mind. You want to have fun, but you should also want the rest of your freinds to share in the fun too.

what can I say once you go teamspeak, you don't want to go back( or similier programs out there). I really suggest any serious SG/VG to have a TS server or the like.

Play a game like Counter-Strike in CAL-I (competa...gaming.

and you will worship not having to type. I also used Teamspeak or Ventrillo for DAOC. I even ran them both at same time and ran one through my On-board sound and the other on my Audigy. have been using it for years on Dark Age of Cammy (another MMO). You are right though if you have a guild/Supergroup that is bigger then 20+ peps you need to keep in touch with them, not everyone has high end systems to run Teamspeak.

setting up a dedicated server with Teamspeak for Raid days or special events is usually a really good way to introduce Teamspeak to you supergroup though, and since you wont use it all the time you dont ahve to be dependent on it, so others wont be left out.

you can Run a Teamspeak Server on a Junker system that someone in your supergroup might have kicking around in your basement or garage. There has been enough info from what I can see about how to to setupa Server. But if anyone needs a hand jsut let me know. :)

No, I've never gotten a virus from ANY of the teamspeak downloads. I've tried almost all of them...Ventrillo, Skype, Teamspeak, etc., and have never gotten a virus. However, this doesn't mean there's a 0% chance of you getting one, but nonetheless, it's safe.

Be carefull where you choose to download Teamspeak from, or rather that goes for any program. its doesnt take much to add some content to the software you are trying to download.

but if you want to knwo you got a clean version of Teamspeak
