Content Submissions

Hey everyone. I've been going through the recent content submissions, badges, screenies and whatnot, and I'd like to make a couple requests to you all.

When you submit a badge, please include a screenshot of the badge itself. You can do that by pulling down the badge window and taking a user interface screenshot. (Type /screenshotui 1 in the chat window before snapping your screenshot) When you submit the badge, submit that picture with it. It would be extremely helpful if you could crop the picture down so that ONLY the badge is showing as well. (Remember, these badge submissions are for credibility, earn it! :) )

Also, when you submit free form submissions, like guides, tips and articles, be sure to spell check and grammar check the whole thing before sending it in to us.

We're getting a TON of submissions here on the CoV site, which is AWESOME. We love to see that kind of user interaction on the site, but when we have to correct grammar and spelling errors as well as crop out pictures and the like, it takes longer for the submissions to get approved and we wind up with a back log.

Remember, a lot of the staffers over on this side are new to their positions, so we've all got the help them out as much as we can. :)

This post is kinda 2 fold. First off I want to bump it up.

Secondly, I want everyone to know the difference between a Guide, Article and Tip.

A Tip is a short "how to" or helpful little thing. This is a good example of a Tip: http://cityofvillains.gameamp.com/tip_libr...braries/643.php

An Article is usually something that's not entirely game related. It might be a fanfic story that someone submits or something along those lines. This is not just a short bio for your character. Articles that relate to Fanfic are short-stories. Remember, Articles are worth credibility, they should be reasonably long so as to earn the credibility that they're worth. A Guide is usually a very detailed build submission or a long "how to". A good example of a guide might be a walkthrough of the Respec trial, or a Build for a Energy/Ice Brute or something along those lines. Also, please spellcheck your submissions before sending them in. The staffers are really backlogged as it is, so correcting grammar and spelling errors isn't real high on our list of priorities right now. An easy way to spell check your submission is to either write it up in Wordpad and run a spell check on it, or copy and paste the whole thing into Word/Wordpad to give it a spell check. It only takes a couple minutes and will really save the staffers a lot of headaches. If a submission contains a great deal of spelling and grammar errors, it will NOT be approved.

Something that I would like to add with regards to fanfic articles.

PLEASE remember that this site is a public site and can be viewed by gamers of all ages, even the little ones who shouldn't be playing them, crafty them young 'uns!

Feel free to write your story / article etc the way you want it to be, but this is all comic book stuff, details of gore, gratuitous violence and shall we say, 'scenes of an adult explicit nature or theme' will be asked to be removed or edited in some way that it is kept suitable for the site.

I've had a very successful 11 part story posted over on the City of Heroes site, something that I am intending on doing over here, an ongoing tale set in the Rogue Isles with one of my villains, still have to decide who.

I've already done one for my Brute and I may continue that as kinda ongoing news stories of his adventures from time to time.

Above all else, have fun writing them, let your imaginations get fired up by the game you just played. Very often I find that a mission arc makes a good tale in multiple parts. Sometimes you might just want to do a single one off tale.

Just please, as Rons already said, write it in word first and spell check it. I'm in the UK and I'd hate to edit something if it came down to it due to spelling mistakes and have to use the UK spelling of coloUr :p hehehe

It makes our job a hellava lot easier if you could also put in the title 'spell checked' and please be honest about it and help us out just a little bit.

Regarding Screenshot Submissions:

All of us love submitting screenshots of cool things we see or do in the game. Great scenary, landmarks of our characters, badges and whatnot. However, what we don't want to see is a new screenshot of every alt that you create, particularly if you create a whole bunch of them on every server.

If you're submitting a shot of a new character to go along with a back story or an article or whatever, that's cool, but just don't flood the submissions with all sorts of alts.

Ah didnt see this before making that "article". i read one or two and some of them were just backgrounds as well as those infromative ones. wasn't looking for cred, just spouting from the keyboard. Good Info! And once aagin great job on the site guys! Kudos and continue to dominate the city!

Yeah, in the earlier days of the site, some articles and such were submitted and approved before any real guidelines/rules were in place. Out of respect for the people who originally submitted them, they weren't removed. Don't be too concerned, just try to keep an eye out in the future.

If you guys want to submit character Bios, there's a place in your User Profile where you can enter info on your characters including bio, powers, server, level and all sorts of other information. You can add them in for numerous games, not just the ones that Gameamp has sites for.

I have been adding in a crapload of information. Numerous character bios and screenshots that you do not have in the villains section. I was just wondering how long it takes for the information to show up there.

Well...Your screenshots should be in your CoH folder. The chain should run something like this: My Computer\C:\Program Files\CoH\Screenshots. If you're just having trouble viewing the files, then you might need to download a new program. I never had this issue with CoH/CoV, but it was a problem when I started playing WoW. My solution came in the form of Irfanview. It's a program much like Photoshop with a few extras added in. It's also a free download (my favorite kind). So...I hope that helps. They have to be entered in by a staffer. So sometimes it takes a bit for one of our staff to get all of them added in, epically when there are so many of you contributing things.

I would say give it until the weekend after you submitted it (most staff get their stuff done of the weekend), and if it still isn't up, maybe send a pm to one of the staff.

Well, I checked (I'm still drying behind my ears), and new contacts need to be added by a Staff member. So, I suggest PM'ing a Staff member with the info so it can be added. I'm guessing this could still be worth some cred. I'll check again though.

Something you can do, if I remember correctly. If you submit the Pic of the contact, and provide the zone, who referred you to them and what villains they introduce you to them, this would be great. You can submit these via the Screenshot section. Make sure you include in the header something to the effect of: New Contact Additon, please do not submit for Screenie (or something to the effect of not submitting for a screenshout). On the Pic of the new contact, the size needs to be no larger than 100 width. Once received, we would update that information into the Contact section and cred will fly your way.

If I got any of this wrong, please advise as I too and still drying my ears off.
