Armoring in Ch2

My biggest gripe with 15k armor is not seeing what it is gonna look like prior to buyin it. Sure they show you a little pic of it in the merchant window, and you can find pics all over the internet, but that doesn't help me when I wanna see what it's gonna look like on my character.

What I want is a try before you buy mode. A checkbox perhaps that allows you to wear the item within a certain radius of the merchant, and removes it if you go too far. That way I don't have to waste 15k on some piece of armor that I thought would look cool, but when I got it on my character, it doesn't.

What say you?!

Re: Armoring in Ch2

nice idea =)
then players who stay for 50 minutes in front of a merchant,
you cna be sure of,
will be girls =))

I wonder, will chapter 2 bring along new armors as well??
and will they make ectoplasms drop in price?
that's also something to think about..

grtz

Re: Armoring in Ch2

armor will be different, and I hope different materials for them too.

For anyone who played Morrowind, remember that Glass Armor? that would be sweet for warriors or necros!

But the biggest wish is that armor would have a level requirement. This would eliminate the possiblity of another overused 'Drok's Run' and stop use of max armor in low level arenas.

yeah a try before you buy would be great, you never know what its gona look like on your character. Glass armour was cool, but daedric was the best though ;)

Re: Armoring in Ch2

I like the level req. for the armor b/c i think that the low level run to drok's is ridiculous. However, as guild wars is a skill based game, i think that in order to be eligible to craft and adorn a certain level of armorment, the player should have to pass a solo skill based test to earn the ability to wear that armor.
the player starts with an armor level of 1 which would be the equiv of presear, and the possibility of earning an armor level of 2, which would be a very very difficult task at such a low level.
the tasks could be as simple as having to defeat a certain enemy at a percentage higher than the player (i.e. if u r a level 6, the foe you must face is 120% higher level than u 6*1.3= 7.8 rounded up to a level 8.)
This would put a skill requirement on armor and as such players whose skill level did not meet the req.(couldn't win) do not get the armor. It forces players to become more efficient and better players in order to advance in the game. With this system of earning the priviledge to wear a certain level or armor, we as fellow gamers can eliminate the inexperienced, group leaving, all aggro circling, death penalty of 60%, leaving early, mission killing player from hampering progress.

Re: Armoring in Ch2

i apologize this may be the wrong place to continue a thought from my armor based reply in this thread.

rather than having armor levels to keep level 3's from getting droks armor, I would rather support a system of entering towns that allows the player to reach an area and map to it, but not actually enter the town (i.e. merchant, skills, armor, collectors) until they complete a skill quest. The completion of this quest allows them the right to enter the town and buy and sell to and from the merchant, buy armor, runes or other pleasantries of certain towns/outposts.

You allow the player to map back to this "waiting area" so that they can fight a certain foe which is (i.e. 130% ) higher leveled than they are. to gain access to the outpost.

By doing this and forcing the player to earn access to the outpost and all of the benefits of that outpost, we subsequently eliminate the level 3 post sear w/mo who is in droks with droks armor.
So players can still be run to a location, but they can not actually enter the town until they complete the skill quest.

I think that this form of earning entry to outposts would eliminate the noob in the forge or SF problem that i am sure all of us have endured.

Thats easy...dont invite them to your group, or kick them :]
You can tell when a person is a noob by the way they type or what they say.

Level req. in armors sound cool!. I love the idea. That way they can eliminate newbs from getting drok's armor, and any other places before their required level.

I hope to see new armors in chpter 2, and I bet there will be new armors.

Ya, level requirements would be cool. Now, what do you say about a try it before you buy it? (See above if you don't understand)

Hell yeah!. Forgot to comment on that. I had to look over the internet for Monk's 15k Armor and didn't quite get good pics, I hope they do that for Chapter 2 as well, or why not in the next update.

If you can preview it then you could still take screenshots it.

Re: Armoring in Ch2

Mmmmh... i guess the idea am about to expose is not really good since FoW armor is meant to be a privilege and make a difference over the rest of the armors... tho here it goes. I miss -and i am not the only one- more diversity in the looks of the characters. More variety in armors, in faces, in hairstyles and -maybe the more important one- i miss more variety in the poses of the characters (there should be a range of "permanent standing posture" from which you could choose one for you character when you are creating it... not sure if i explained it properly lol). Anyway, something to take away that feeling of finding clones everywhere. But, again, if there were too many different armors, FoW armor (that "Holy Grial" of GW) would probably lose it's value.

Thats one of the things I'd like to see, different armor looks. Have the armor sets but for each set have different styles availible.

I think he means he'd rather not have a full-size preview option, but something along the size of the Cape selection screen, or the inventory screen. That would work for me too.
You'd be able to get a better impression of what you're buying, but we'd not be flooded by remarkably similar screenshots of then CH2's versions of 15K armor :-)
It would also fit better within the current trading interface.

Re: Armoring in Ch2

You know, from what I understand they were playing around with the idea of eternal armor before they released GWs back when. I guess they had some issues.

Maybe they'll put that idea back into play in the expansion.
